Hi KayR, and NtFs,
Thanks for your emails. Freedom from the sociality of a Quaker "formal Meeting" which "might not be workable for more reasons than just distance" ... so possibly freedom from some Monthly Meetings, Quarterly Meetings and Yearly Meetings with regards to the unprogrammed tradition of Friends?
I'm familiar with how some Quaker Silent Meetings might be nerve-wracking, rather than opportunities for centering down, and attuning - both as forms of meditation (understandable in a biological ways - re the "relaxation response" or an inner releasing action, too), - and even for opening ways to the "valley of love and delight" (re the Shaker / Quaker hymn) which is something I'm interested in in an ongoing way - and in neurophysiological ways especially. I also share your appreciation of the benefits of some kinds of community. Am curious how this might have already emerged online, and how NtFs and Friends might further grow this (and how people can navigate such communities, once they've emerged, in ways that continue to generate freedom for atheist Quakers / NtFs and as individuals ... avatar bots could possibly help here in the future). I appreciate too the Quaker respect and tolerance for the individual, - and for individual witness or protest against wrong-doing based on conscience, so conscientious objection, and as an expression of care or love - whether this be in Silent Meeting itself and how one centers, and then what comes up as a leading, ... or in John Woolman taking his concerns about slavery and abolition from Meeting to Meeting and as a form of traveling "ministry," based on his personal Friendly leading as a Quaker.
KayR, would you like to try meeting online in group video with other NtFS some some Sunday? re your "All these ideas of virtual Meetings, and e-mail Meetings would certainly be something I would try." Which Sunday, or what day might be good for you, and at what possible times? (Are you on the East Coast of the US?).
See too this exploration of meeting for online NtF Quaker Meeting - "Pendle Hill: Online non-theist Quaker un-programmed F/friends' Meetings, First one on August 16th in a Google group video Hangout, All are welcome, Emails with Oz"

Re Harbin Hot Springs, soaking in the warm pool there, and its parallels with Quaker Meeting, here are some steps to elicit the relaxation response - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2013/11/tragopan-steps-to-elicit-relaxation.html - and re silent Meeting in the manner of NtFs.
Friendly regards, Scott

Jonathan,
your Road Scholar (formerly Elder Hostel - and like Youth Hostels!) travels to national parks in Canada with guides, teachers, scholars and docents have inspired me to think through how docenting in a realistic virtual earth with avatar bots might work (thinking here Google Street View with Time Slider) - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1040688970709913601 - and re Katrina Gargett's recent Ph.D. at the Univ of York in the British Isles on a related topic -
Well, I guess this means I have to be a proper real-world adult now. #MAlife was hard but I’m sure going to miss it! Onto the next adventure... #itsfinallyover #studentnomore pic.twitter.com/hOlURb3isP— Katrina (@klgargett) September 6, 2018
