For the students, however, the problem then arises of the recognition of their certificates and diplomas. The off-university is not recognized as a real university. How can she solve this problem?
Historian Julia Strutz has been doing research in Istanbul for ten years. The political situation persuaded her to return to Germany.
We are trying to solve this in two ways: Contacts between students and professors are still very good. We can build on that and make offers where the certificates are not the most important thing.
But we also want to tap into the whole world of Open Online Courses. These are seminars that real universities offer online and which they can then also certify. So we want to collaborate with professors who teach at real universities and put them in partnership with teachers in Turkey - or even with those who live in exile elsewhere. Then they could offer joint courses for students.

What does David Chalmers think about consciousness?
David Chalmers is a prominent philosopher of mind who is best known for his work on the problem of consciousness. He is a leading proponent of the view that consciousness is a fundamental aspect of reality that cannot be reduced to or explained by physical processes.
Chalmers is perhaps most famous for his formulation of the "hard problem of consciousness," which is the problem of explaining how subjective experience arises from objective physical processes. Chalmers argues that this problem is so difficult that it cannot be solved by current scientific methods, and he proposes that we need to develop new explanatory principles and perhaps even a new science of consciousness to fully understand the nature of conscious experience.
Chalmers has also developed a number of other influential ideas in the philosophy of mind, including the concept of the "zombie argument," which is a thought experiment designed to show that consciousness cannot be explained by physical processes alone. He has also explored the relationship between consciousness and information processing, and has proposed that consciousness may be a fundamental aspect of the universe, much like space and time.
David Chalmers is a philosopher and cognitive scientist who is well-known for his work on the nature of consciousness. He is credited with coining the term "hard problem of consciousness" to describe the challenge of explaining why and how subjective experiences arise from neural activity in the brain.
Chalmers argues that consciousness is a fundamental aspect of reality, which cannot be reduced to or explained solely in terms of physical processes. He distinguishes between the "easy problems" of consciousness, such as the ability to discriminate, categorize, and react to environmental stimuli, which he believes can be explained by cognitive science, and the "hard problem" of explaining why and how these cognitive processes give rise to subjective experiences.
Chalmers is a proponent of a dualistic view of consciousness, which holds that consciousness is not reducible to or identical with physical processes in the brain, but rather exists as a separate ontological category. He also explores the possibility that consciousness is a fundamental feature of the universe, akin to space and time, and that it may have its own fundamental laws and principles.
Overall, Chalmers' views on consciousness have been influential in shaping the debate around the nature of subjective experience and the limits of scientific explanation.

what are some new and interesting results about the relative capacities of multimodal models and pure language models on the same (text) tasks?
(yes, i just happen to be thinking about "do language models need sensory grounding for meaning and understanding?".)

the new GPT-4 data seem quite relevant here: the version with vision only slightly outperforms the language-only version on some standard tests.
