The connectome includes over 120,000 neurons and more than 30 million synapses, as well as annotations for cell classes and types, nerves, hemilineages, and predictions of neurotransmitter identities. The FlyWire data is available online via Codex (Connectome Data Explorer) at codex.flywire.ai
The FlyWire connectome has been used to produce a consensus cell type atlas for the Drosophila brain, which includes 4,552 cell types. This atlas includes 3,094 cell types that validate those previously proposed in the hemibrain connectome, and 1,458 new cell types that are the result of the FlyWire connectome spanning the entire brain.
