A friend writes "This is a frustrating piece. We've had our Nissan Leaf for 3 months now and it is great. The range is fine for our everyday commuting needs. Very powerful zippy car, completely quiet, no tailpipe emissions, no gas tank to explode. And once we get our solar panels on the house, it will in effect be a solar-powered car. Imagine if everyone in LA had that setup..."

19 miles on cold mornings in the eastern US and 9 hours to charge ... but looks like this will be great in California ...

(it looks, too, like I'll be able sleep in the Leaf, for ethnographic field work for my actual / virtual Harbin book (in the 6th of 12 chapters) ... )

Unfortunately this misses other important variables in the equation: 0 tailpipe emissions for electric cards, reduced dependency on foreign oil, cutting the oil companies' stranglehold on our economy and the environment, etc.

I'd like for people / citizens to situate such technologies as electric / hybrid cars

within an emergent 'Ocean and Climate Management Plan,' such as these beginnings at World University & School -
