Foxfire (Panellus Stipticus): Looking for the "magic microphone" with a MOBILE SPEAKER to amplify my Scottish small pipes' chanter and drones well, A "magic mic" that can also connect with any sound system under heaven, by wifi, bluetooth or wire, and even to a pretty cool mobile speaker on a necklace around my neck in front of my jabot (e.g. for outdoors at a winery in multiple somewhat windy locations with guests, playing while ambling, kind of Piobaireachd-like - the ambling bit - but with SSP amplification:), Possible mobile speaker examples, Curious how to create a flourishing online culture of music, where I too with a lot of other people all want to play and make music together (even as practice), Gig this Friday in Berkeley, How to mic a clarinet, Cardioid condenser microphone ideas

I think I'm looking for a clip-on "magic microphone" to amplify my Scottish small pipes' chanter and drones well - all ~11 holes, that especially connects with a mobile speaker hanging from a necklace around my neck either wirelessly or with a wire, - and with other amplified musicians and any other sound system / speaker et al ... tall order for a single clip-on microphone ... (omnidirectional, unilateral, lavalier, Cardioid Condenser, or ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microphone?)

...

Thanks, All,

All good microphone ideas to try before settling on a "magic mic" that can connect with any sound system under heaven, by wifi, bluetooth or wire, and even to a pretty cool mobile speaker on a necklace around my neck in front of my jabot ((e.g. for outdoors at a winery in multiple somewhat windy locations with guests, playing while ambling, kind of Piobaireachd-like - the ambling bit - but with SSP amplification -

Curious too whether there are any 6-8 inch diameter mobile speakers available that one could where via a necklace as a medallion to get richness of sound, for example - (as a kind of MIT Media Lab innovation)?

Hi Barbara, Jeff, David, Bruce, Betsy, Patti, Heather and Martha,

I'm seeking to amplify my Scottish small pipes for mobility at a gig (e.g. outdoors at a winery in multiple somewhat windy locations with guests - so I'm not interested in a large stationary speaker), and here are some prototype ideas, but not sure if the mic is right - no bluetooth or batteries, and not sure about clipping it on and as an omnidirectional mic to my chanter ...

Mic -
Sony ECMCS3 Clip style Omnidirectional Stereo Microphone

and not sure about loudness with these (but they are light weight and could be suspended on a necklace, for example) ...

Speaker -
JS Portable Mini Wireless Bluetooth Nut Speaker with Sling for iPhone iPad Android and More

Could I ask please your thoughts and ideas about this?

The principle might be similar for amplifying a flute or even a violin at a similar gig (but the violin is probably loud enough as it is for outdoor gigs I'm thinking about).

Thank you!

Musical cheers, Scott

Thanks. I'm curious how to create a flourishing online culture of
music, where I too with a lot of other people all want to play and
make music together (even as practice) - think/imagine Monday evening
music-making playing for Scottish Country Dancing which is fun and
both a kind of practicing as well as generative - folks keep coming
back to make music (including me:).

This doesn't address making money making music, but teachers and
organizers of this flourishing social online music making space (e.g. in the Music School at WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School - planned in all 8k languages) could
well make money with time, as well as explore creativity wiki-wise and
in other ways.

Excellent, man.  You playing any gigs around town these days?

Gig this Friday in Berkeley (which has been somewhat regular over the past year actually) - it's that Scottish meme (replicating cultural unit) again - playing for Scottish Country Dancing (SCD) - for the Introductory class. It even pays - between $3 and 5 per session :).

I'd like to invite you all too to the dancing - it's about a 10 block walk away from downtown Berkeley BART - along Oxford Street (which is a nice route ... and goes along right in front of UC Berkeley for part of the walk) ... begins at 7:30 I think. The music is good (and you, who might be interested, could begin playing with https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand on Monday evenings -  if interested) :)

Re music-making pour moi, this makes for actually nearly 4 times per week music-making (which is social, and with related learning - a musical director at UU church of Palo Alto - UUCPA) ... 2 SCD and 2 singing ... with a 1st Sunday of the month singing opportunity at 2 pm at the UUCPA just emerging as well (if you're interested, I can send you the flyer which I just received :)

Come out to this Friday night gig ... and enjoy the dancing especially :)

Was talking about finding a "magic microphone" and MOBILE SPEAKER with Patti and Steve Saturday afternoon at SCD:

Steve mentioned a version of this microphone - "DPA d:vote 4099V - Violin Mic w/Clip" - https://www.amazon.com/DPA-vote-4099V-Violin-Clip/dp/B00ITV9CJ2 - which looks like it could be the "magic microphone" for Scottish small pipes too - for $619 - but I'm still curious about a mobile speaker that could be used for playing Scottish small pipes' gigs at a winery, for example, in multiple locations with a slight wind, so it would need to be an innovative speaker design, possibly 6-8 inches in diameter, and carry-able on one's body. (I've added this microphone here -- http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/02/foxfire-panellus-stipticus-looking-for.html - and great examples of small mobile speakers are here). Steve seemed to think the DPA 4096 would unambiguously be the magic microphone that would work for me. :)

Not sure yet whether this DPA 4096 mic is an omni mic, David, and whether there's a specific version for a reeded woodwind instrument ... and I still haven't even begun to learn of a mobile speaker that would be loud or innovative enough - Patti suggested at least a 6-8 inch one - (which would then raise feedback questions/next steps). Not sure too how to mic my drones.

Kathryn Tickell mics her Northumbrian small pipes beautifully - https://www.pandora.com/station/play/3544448351211334085 - but not yet with a mobile speaker that I've seen.

Musical cheer,
Scott

Thanks for a most wonderful Stringfire concert last night Patti and Annie!!! It was lovely and inspiring! ... (inspires me, for example, to explore how to compose chamber music out of SCD - and re WUaS music students online - and with greater technical musical challenges with time).

Here's an update too on "a mobile speaker with magic microphone" for the Scottish Smallpipes, CONCEPTUALLY ... (and all of this could be relevant to you fiddlers, flautists and woodwind-ers) ... wanting to be able to have a 1-2 mile walking range

- The medium or large size of these two portable speakers (if these exist - and if the sound is good)) with 4 or 8 D size batteries ...

JS Portable Mini Wireless Bluetooth Nut Speaker with Sling for iPhone iPad Android and More

- And this DPA omni microphone (which as an omni would hopefully amplify my SSP drones as well )

In this group think "mobile speaker with magic microphone" email process, I welcome your further thoughts, ideas and questions especially for better (louder and good sound quality and battery efficiency) speaker ideas ...

Thanks again for your magic Stringfire music, Annie and Patti!

Musical cheers,

Hi All,

In an ongoing search for a "MAGIC MICROPHONE with MOBILE SPEAKER," with a range of a mile or two, and for outdoor Scottish small pipes' gigs with slight wind (e.g. in a winery in multiple locations),

I'm curious in what ways an engineer could NETWORK together 10 or a 100 oF the large size of the following mobil speakers - for a BAND OF ROVING MINSTRELS, for example.

And I return to - conceptually -

- The medium or large size of these two portable speakers (which may not exist yet - and if the sound is good)) with 4 or 8 D size batteries  ...

- And this DPA omni microphone (which as an omni would hopefully amplify my SSP drones as well )

DPA d:vote 4099V - Violin Mic w/Clip

Much of this here:

How best to explore networking such speakers together and with DPA microphone quality?

Do such speakers or NETWORKED speakers WITH GREAT SOUND exist in other ways, that anyone knows of?

In this group think "mobile speaker with magic microphone" email process, I welcome your further thoughts, ideas and questions especially for better (louder and good sound quality and battery efficiency) speaker ideas ...

The mystery of the "Magic Microphone with Mobile Speaker" still unsolved - and especially for roving bands of island minstrels (hoping for a form factor of an 8 inch radiant paper star - feather weight and like a speaker's bass woofer - which we can wear on each of our chests - not sure where the D batteries would go) - I'm wondering ...

What is this dance that James Boswell on Skye Isle on 2 Oct 1773 called "America"? http://www.scotlandnow.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/heritage/scottish-clans-story-behind-macleod-3654716

Linda? David?

Is it a Scottish Country Dance? ... https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/847139337422553089 ...

Carl MacDougall's clan histories are great - any relation, Lorne?

Musical cheers,
Scott
