Hi M,
Am curious how to 'land' position at Stanford ... still in a kind of limbo with both money-earning career and having kids ... (as WUaS waits to hear back from the state of California's BPPE - Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education - re accreditation, and re our pending National Science Foundation grant application, for accreditation, and to begin to hire graduate student instructors to teach undergraduates in online video conferencing)
my ideas are good (values too) but big ...

individualism (as citizen in nation state too) as idea begins with ancient Greeks, I think ... curious how they resolved it into Community with subgroup, and re compassion/caring ... in their writings re learning ... glad to have spoken with Peter Bothe yesterday in Hangout video conference for 2.5 hours after many weeks and re connecting, and re WUaS which could prove to be a good work opportunity for many too ... here are some resources re individualism, ancient Greece and Stanford too -

There's a new tablet for drawing / painting (with new software) coming from Wacom that's 22 inches big (whereas a current large Samsung tablet is 12 inches) ... and I'm eventually seeking a large tablet for sheet music ... so am staying off the bleeding edge with tablets ...
And who knows but an actual Lego train might find form in a virtual world for Lego trains with direct actual-virtual correspondence (just saw a Twitter post alluding to this -
Stay tuned for an exciting hands-on #LEGOlearning announcement for the youngest of learners coming next week! (🔊sound on) pic.twitter.com/tfh3JHjqf0— LEGO Education (@LEGO_Education) August 24, 2018
https://twitter.com/LEGO_Education/status/1033081913999642624) ... which would be another beginning of a realistic virtual earth where you could make actual Lego robotics physically, and also virtually ... your grandkids would benefit :) ... but a good society and good culture will still be important for raising good kids, I think, and in this changing information technology world we live in now ... And how to help facilitate a good alternative culture in a virtual Harbin out of hippy experimentalism emerging out of the 1960s and 1970s there ... open to clothing-optional soaking in the warm pool and what emerges from this at Harbin, for example? Appreciating the radicalism of the 1960s and 1970s (but this is now a long time ago) and appreciating what emerges at Harbin (but not appreciating the bad stuff ... roguishness ... Harbin's navigating of folks who have issues with violence or aggression etc) ... Would think that, given the history of virtual worlds (e.g. 'griefing' in SL was a negative thing where avatars would create nuisances of themselves to other avatars by sharing "lewd" images / prims (virtual world building blocks in SL, short for primitives) - people don't seem to be able to "keep it in" to use a phrase George A used in these regards) thus far, that one could create a realistic virtual Harbin with realistic avatar bots that would not have some of what I'll call "negative" aspects of Harbin ... a very cool potential of virtual worlds ... I find freedom in hippy-minded explorations / thinking, M :)
Have just emailed Stanford Prof Janet Carlson inquiring if I could help facilitate Meetups / Hangouts at Stanford in the school of education which would focus on A) Scratch drag and drop programming language and B) Lego Robotics with WeDo 2 and Mindstorms EV3 - and together ... am hoping to further facilitate such open learning get togethers in Google 10 person group video Hangouts ...
Haven't played my Scottish small pipes WITH a Youtube video on my large screen Smart TV of someone playing Scottish small pipes with a tune I know and in a key I can play with (on Walsh small pipes with a chanter in A or D) - and interactively especially - that makes it fun (very), or opens the way to playing harmony in new ways, or to sing with them in a new way ... creative opportunity here too ... might have to make such videos to begin. Just checked - there's definitely a dearth of great Scottish small piping in the keys of A and D (and on esp. Walsh Scottish small pipes for example online:).
What are you up to today? And how are you? How's the weather on Cuttyhunk? (And how to invite Leonie and friends over for brunch some Sunday morning?)

Hi M,
Turns out, that waiting on a very large light-weight tablet makes sense for another reason too - re Lego robotics (since I have the WeDo2 Lego robotics' set) ... WeDo2.0 works with the Scratch drag and drop programming language ... which a very recent development, since when I checked a month ago I couldn't download the add-on/connecting software, but I could yesterday. ...
https://scratch.mit.edu/wedo ...
Except that the Scratch Link will only work on a MacBook operating system OS newer than the one I have. Yet the ScratchLink add-on for the Scratch-Lego connectivity are all so new that there's no hurry, and they'll improve with time anyway.
So a large Samsung tablet with new great drawing/painting software will be great too for doing Scratch drag and drop programming on it and with physical Lego robotics. No hurry ... and good, - and esp when/if my kids come along. Here's the large Wacom tablet which I saw mentioned on this Swarthmore ITS Twitter post which I mentioned -

Just went hiking around a marsh lake near me in East Bay MUD - the Valle Vista Staging Area it's called and in going a brand new way there, I found it's INCREDIBLY beautiful - https://lamorindahikes.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/ebmudkingscanyontrail.jpg (and https://lamorindahikes.com/2013/05/25/kings-canyon-loop/). As I came into the parking area initially, lots of people pulled up about the same time to use this park-like area, which gives me further insight into the community culture of Moraga ... I don't feel entirely connected here, and it doesn't seem like there's a lot of trust in the air either ... but it was a nice walk in a very beautiful area - and what a find / discovery ... When you come out next, let's explore it further, on foot or bikes ... (or possibly even on horses at some point :)

on the paper newspapers posted daily outside the UC Berkeley Free Speech Movement cafe in the center of campus, I saw that the Washington Post reported that the ocean near South Carolina has risen 1 foot in last 100 years - of which I'm very very skeptical ... but interesting ... Could this head line perhaps be a way to motivate law makers and related wider community in the Washington DC as information technology ? (my hypothesis)

I saw this Washington post headline abt 5 days ago - last Monday or Tuesday ... but if it isn't true - and I'm deeply skeptical - it's outrageous incredibly unskillful and non-excellent (i.e. lacking journalistic integrity) news, M ...
