Hi Autumn,

Thanks for your nice email. Great to be in communication with you as well. I'll respond to a few of your questions below. How are you, and where are you heading next career-wise re your vision for this?

> What a wonderful opportunity since 2017 (?) to provide online education around the world in 300 languages!!!!

World Univ & Sch incorporated as a 501 c 3 non-profit in 2010, and as a parallel for-profit general stock company, the WUaS Corp / Press in 2017 - 2 separate legal entities in CA, and so far not yet financially operational. WUaS is planning major online universities in each of ~200 countries' official languages, and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7111 known living languages. On the WUaS Corporation side (which we incorporated in 2017), WUaS is planning educational services' bookstores/ computer stores / robotics' stores / hospital technologies / an academic press with machine translation in all 7111 and much more - See, conceptually, item 9 in these 2016 14 planned revenue streams on both wings of WUaS - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - planning to become an all-language academic human resources' online manpower-brain power-language-power jobs' source for our graduates and others).

> Where are the students from and how many students do you have currently enrolled?

As WUaS seeks first to license with CA's BPPE for online free-to-students' MIT OCW-centric Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees, first in English, WUaS is seeking our 2nd undergraduate class of 500-2000 students for the autumn of 2020 - with students from all  ~200 nation states studying for free-to-students' online Bachelor's degrees from home in English.

> What are the most popular degrees? Does the school/uni run year-round?

World Univ & Sch is currently planning 6 degrees for undergraduates - worlduniversityandschool.org - and will build out potentially to 32 degrees in MIT OCW's departments. The major universities will run all year round as we develop the platform for both synchronous and asynchronous learning and courses. Seeking here to become the Harvard / Stanford / Oxbridge / MIT of the Internet and to offer online in ~200 countries' main languages Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, Medicine - MD and I.B. high school degrees.

Your ESL language knowledge and related dovetail remarkably with WUaS's multi-lingual focus (where CC-4 MIT OCW is in 5 languages currently). And if you might be interested, WUaS has a part time fundraising / grant writing position available; see the recent WUaS Monthly Business Meeting Minutes' item 2 - Minutes:
https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2019/10/minutes-for-world-univ-sch-monthly.html

https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/10/scintillant-hummingbird-minutes-for.html
Unfortunately WUaS hasn't become financially operational in all these years yet, as you may have seen in the financial reports from last WUaS MBM, but after a Reed College Alumni conference call (Reed Career Alliance - RCA) yesterday, I'm hopeful that the financial tides for WUaS may be beginning to turn.

In 2005, I traveled on SAS from Florida to Venezuela, Brazil, South Africa, Mauritius, India and beyond ... and then headed to Harbin Hot Springs in NorCal to begin field work for my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnography, which the Academic Press at WUaS published in 2016 - https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity. In seeking to facilitate a single realistic virtual earth for everything (think Google Street View / Maps / Earth with Second Life, but realistic and for medicine, for example) but especially ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - http://www.scottmacleod.com/research-group.html - a new social science theory and method I'm developing, I'd like to extend my ethnographic field sites beyond Harbin to Scotland, India and Germany! I went to one SAS reunion in SF earlier this year, but haven't been too engaged with SAS recently.

Nice to be in communication. Much creative generation here, and seeking to make it real re finances, and growth!

Sincerely, Scott

Hi Scott!!!

It is wonderful to hear from you!!!

It looks like you are busy running World Uni and School!!! I checked out the school's Youtube and Twitter pages. What a wonderful opportunity since 2017 (?) to provide online education around the world in 300 languages!!!! Where are the students from and how many students do you have currently enrolled?  What are the most popular degrees? Does the school/uni run year-round? I have been in the fields of ESL, EFL, EIL, Nonprofits, Higher Ed, and Global Ed combined for 20 years. A while ago, I received my MA in TESOL and last year studied a MA in Nonprofit Management and Leadership.

I read your writing on your website about your Fall 2005 Voyage. In F99, we knew the ship as the Great White Mother, but Student Ship makes sense as well! I remember you playing your bagpipes on the F99 Voyage! What was your teaching or staff role on the F05 Voyage? Where did you sail on F05? I sailed with SAS again on their one-month Fire and Ice Enrichment Voyage in May/June 2014 embarking from Germany to Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Iceland, Northern Ireland and disembarking in England. I have also gone on a few SAS Reunion Voyages/Homecoming Voyages too. Now I volunteer as the AZ Alumni Chapter Rep for SAS since 2017.

Sincerely,

Autumn

Hi Autumn, Karen, Nicole and Dennis,

Thanks for connecting in LinkedIn, Autumn, with -  "What is your current home address? I would like to send you a Christmas card in Dec. :)" - and which I've put below.

I'm taking the opportunity to say hi to you all (with whom I'm also connected in L.I.)

Am continuing in an out of the box way to develop CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki World University and School, which a bit like Semester at Sea in broad vision, seeks to create online MIT OCW-centric universities in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, as well as wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,111 known living languages.  The online Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, M.D. and I.B. high school degrees will be free to students (with reimbursement planned from countries' departments of Education, for example). Am also continuing to develop my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project, and in conjunction with this for WUaS to facilitate developing a realistic virtual earth for everything - think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth at the cellular and atomic levels too / TensorFlow / Translate and with avatar bots of individuals and species and which is group-buildable a bit like Second Life, but with realistic avatar bots, not cartoon-esque ones. Hopefully this will dovetail with ships' navigation systems and we'll be able to visit the ports we visited in 1999 again virtually, thanks to all the photos and videos we add to this virtual earth which will then all be patched together into a whole earth.

While there's a 'Semester at Sea' label in my daily blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Semester%20at%20Sea - check out, for example, the 'global university' and the 'virtual Harbin' blog labels among others.

And on my web site there's a bit about Semester at Sea as well - http://scottmacleod.com/SAS2005/SAS2005index.htm (accessible from http://scottmacleod.com).

What are you all of you up to?  (How's Carol, Dennis?) Who has sailed again with SAS since 1999, - and when? :)

Thanks for your message, Autumn.

Warm greetings, Scott

Hi Autumn, Karen, Dennis, Hailey, and Janie,

You might enjoy this update on World University and School and some of Autumn's and my recent Semester at Sea (Autumn 1999!!!) experiences - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/autumn-colors-hi-autumn-and-semester-at.html.

Unfortunately we can't engage such history and experiences in a single realistic virtual earth for history, and tourism, and Semester at Sea photos/videography and experiences, but World Univ & Sch is seeking to facilitate this!

Sincerely Scott

  1. We're great! No further sailings on SaS, unfortunately, even though I would have gone again the following semester. We have three grandkids now so it would be hardship to arrange an SaS semester. We would have a very difficult timing being away from them for so long.
