I've played pipes for more than 40 years, and usually perform in full highland regalia, - in the ancient, hunting, MacLeod tartan. I try to play for 5-9 engagements a month. I've played for numerous weddings, funerals, and other events, and in pipe bands.

I've studied in Edinburgh, Scotland, two separate years (1977-1978 and 2003-2004), playing in the Fettes College (IB) high school Pipe Band and at the Edinburgh Tattoo in the Castle; and studying in the School of Celtic and Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh.

I've studied with some of the finest piping teachers and pipers in the world: Pipe Majors John MacFadyen, Duncan Johnstone, Alasdair Gillies, Ian Whitelaw, Jack Lee, Lorne MacDougall and Connor Sinclair.

An old friend, Laurent, (from 1966-1972), called from France yesterday after a Nasdaq meeting re WUaS Corp (and subsequent scheduling of meeting with Nasdaq for WUaS Corp Board Governance) soon ~ How wonderful! (Our fathers were both faculty members at Yale University)

Salut, Laurent, Françoise, Guillaume, Jane, Sandy,

thank you, Laurent, for calling from France ... I looked up your old home on Armory street in Google Street View, but couldn't yet 'Time Slide' back to 1966 - 1972 (when I was between 6 & 12) to see how it changed in those years. Nice to see Mrs. Barker's house to the right of your house, and 'walk' down Armory to see the Ahlstrom's house on the corner. What an interesting time to live in New Haven (since revolution was in the air and happening:)

Here it is ! ~
123 Armory Street, Hamden CT ... 06517

And then I found our house ~ but can't yet add those photos of you, Laurent and Guillaume, from Christmas I think - and re everyone playing musical instruments ...
125 Mill Rock Road, Hamden CT
where the MacLeods lived from 1966-1971 or 72

Looking forward to talking again in the not-too-distant future. Want to hang out over a glass of wine in Google Meet video conference (for which I can send the invite) - all of us - in the next little while?

How soon until Aging Reversal Genetic Engineering (in a capsule?). Here's ...

What a pleasure to hear back from you, and reminisce memories of your very young adolescence, music playing, neighbours who apparently you still  remember although they might be dead now , perhaps the Ahlstrom parents but not their kids, who seem in good shape !
Your CC World University and School seem to be very active : BRAVO for your enterprise and energy. I Recently had a message from your mother who, in spite of the  various activities, such as Pickleball !, which she seems to enjoy, appears somewhat very negative , like for all of us when considering the political,  social and economic landscape. From my point of view, the brightest move would be to kick Trump out for good ! You may not agree...

What a pleasure to hear back from you as well, Françoise - and from Paris! It feels a bit like something out of a French novel with time lapse memory sequences too! Your beautiful home on Armory Street, in Hamden, CT, your wonderful children at the time, my friends ... Very glad to hear that the Ahlstrom kids are in good shape. It would be great to reconnect with them as well. Was there a revolution in the air in New Haven from 1966-1972, (and when my family lived at 125 Mill Rock Road, and I was growing up ages 6-12)? I think so - and we shared a number of Christmases together as well (ah, rituals, and I write as an anthropologist too, Professor Ehrmann:) ... some with music making among the kids, each child from youngest to oldest playing or singing or similar - and in the room beyond the living room in our house with the slightly lower floor, tiled I think with some sort of stonework. I'd say those were 'heightened' times! (Both you and my mother's husbands were Yale faculty members!)

CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School walks with baby steps presently - and thank you for your 'BRAVO'! My mother with whom I'm in touch on a regular basis seems hail and hearty, and living in a new home just outside of Pittsburgh, her home city since 1974 (and she grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, only 5-6 hours away, pre Boston and New Haven, and Cuttyhunk esp!). I changed to the Greens this spring (in agreement with their peace and environment platforms), and voted in the primary for Howie Hawkins, Biden (& Harris) in the election. But from out here in California on the left coast, where its electoral college votes are almost always likely to head to the Democratic presidential candidate, I was curious what could be done to get out the vote in the so-called 15 or so 'battleground' states. I think Biden, having been VP to Obama for 8 years, and with Kamala Harris, helped a lot in getting out the Black vote, which may have played a decisive role in this national election, and regarding the electoral college swing states. Thanks too to the 1960s and the civil rights' freedom movement I'd suggest in these regards.

It would be very wonderful to visit you in Paris ... and would love to visit not Nanette Van Nes from the Netherlands (whose married and has kids) - whom I got to know well on Cuttyhunk in the early 1980s one summer (1983?) - ...  in these regards :)

Shall we all meet on the West Highland Way - https://youtu.be/p1GR8qQulx4 - in Scotland sometime, walk 5 miles a day between inns (with transport carrying our gear, and maybe some of us), overnight in the inns, and see a new part of the world together with a movement component for those who want this - and as a reunion one of these years? :)

Warm, fond regards,
Scott

Bonjour Laurent, Françoise, Guillaume, Jane, Sandy,

In the 'battleground state' of Pennsylvania, my mother fought bravely ... et voilà, nous avons un nouveau président élu (and we in the US have a new president elect) :) ... Et merci encore pour votre email, Françoise, et votre coup de téléphone, Laurent!

Un peu plus d'histoire ... Re family histories, in New Haven, and beyond -
Re schools, Laurent, I didn't attend Hamden High School, like you both did, I think, Guillaume and Laurent ... I went to the Putnam Street school for a year for 1st grade, then Newhall Street School (which was an integrated school, with 60-70% Black kids:), for 2nd-5th grade (Yurzick, Cofield, Middleton - were the first 3 of my teachers there, I think), then to the new Ridgehill Street school - an OPEN CLASSROOM school, and architecturally especially, - but I can't remember whether I was in the Apollo or Gemini large open room / capsule :) (with none of those rigid desks in row & grid formation stuff) for 6th grade I think.

(The MacLeods moved after that to the DC area, and I attended another OPEN CLASSROOM school - Green Acres School in Rockville, Maryland - for 6th and 7th grades, but during my 7th grade my parents, Sandy and I revisited the French culture we had learned as friends with you! We lived in Geneva, Switzerland (from Oct 1, 1972 or 3, until March 30 the following year, at 15 Avenue de Miremont), so I missed the middle part of 7th grade  ... My father was doing a Ford Foundation grant sponsored study of health care systems in 3 European countries (Germany, Denmark & Britain, I think???), based in Switzerland ... as he was setting up the first HMOs in the country while living in Washington DC (he was commuting from New Haven for a year or two before we moved there).  In Geneva, I think Sandy and I first attended a local Swiss public school in French, but then soon transferred to the Ecole Internationale Ecolint for learning in English. When we moved to Pittsburgh, from Bethesda MD (on West Park Hill Drive, between a u-shaped Cedar Lane, near the National Institute of Health) ... I skipped 8th grade and began at Shady Side Academy senior school in 9th grade (all a bit bumpy pedagogically ... that is, - all these school systems, and languages, and the 2 open classroom schools preceding academically high achieving SSA, didn't lead to a 'building' approach to learning, which I think is a sound approach, despite the context of the freedom-seeking of the 1960s and early 1970s, which partly informed these interesting Open Classroom experiments, although Green Acres School I've since learned came out of a John Dewey approach from the 1930s, and possibly even loosely, Summerhill :)) ...

Will you be able to add all the videos you have of your father Jacques (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Ehrmann) to a realistic virtual earth for history, in a SINGLE #RealisticVirtualEarth - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarth?src=hashtag_click -  and I the above, - and will we be able to interact and animate all of this, as serious historical projects? :)

All findable in Street View too - let's add animated avatar bots of our Jacques and Gordon in 1966-1972 with whom we can talk and relate emotionally with even! - and check out some of your old schools there, but Street View is not yet very versatile for history. Am giving a UC Berkeley Anthropology Tourism Studies' talk online on the creation of a realistic virtual earth for tourism and tourism studies, history, STEM research, and a new STEM and social science method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and I hope you'll all find your way to the enjoyment of adding resources, a bit like adding or teaching to a Wikipedia page.

Françoise, what a wonderfully central location in Paris you live

43 Bd. du Montparnasse

75006 Paris

It would be very great to visit you there at some point, and thank you so much for your kind invitation!

Warm regards,
Scott

Bonjour Laurent, Françoise, Guillaume, Jane, Sandy,

Thank you again for your wake-up call from France, Laurent! :) I hope you weren't too tired since it was after midnight, your time, and a good afternoon time here! :)

Would love to learn some of your recollections of our hanging out between 1966 -1972 (re Asterisk Et Obelisk comic books) ... writing these down can be a great way for us to learn and remember :)

... maybe I went to Ridge Hill elementary school (see Street View, without much history below) for 5th grade  ... don't remember my teachers (maybe they were somehow de-emphasized in this new open classroom educational paradigm - ie re the experimental anti-authoritarianism protests of the 1960s) ... at Green Acres, Betsy McCall (sp?) was my teacher (we ded an archaeological dig, we made comic books with dialogue, and drawing, we made board games (like the board game Landslide:) in 6th grade, and Mitch Berliner was my teacher in 7th grade I think (I remember a cooking class - where I learned to make an omelette ... all very creative, makey-makey ... and all these years before computing even!) and in the brief time I was in 7th grade there ...  I also remember a very fun Outward Bound course that came to Green Acres, where we got to move through elevated web of ropes in a little pine forest (and playing spin the bottle in Chincoteague / Asateague on a school trip, as well as a trip to Peter MacDonald's family's place in the country with the whole class, and a Cuttyhunk friend, Elliott, since the late 1960s, who live in Berkeley now, is still in touch Peter :), and my best friend from high school years, Pin Mazumder, is in touch in the DC area with a number of other Green Acres' friends of mine from 1972-'74 ...

Am remembering all the Asterisk Et Obelisk comic books you had Laurent and Guillaume, as I write about the comic books we made at Green Acres ... :)

Here's
Ridge Hill School - as part of the Hamden Public Schools -

Did you go to Ridge Hill by any chance, Sandy, Guilliaume or Laurent?

Am seeking too for World Univ & Sch to explore making psychiatrist avatar bots for free talk therapy ...

https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1334993407102472192?s=20

... and check the re-Tweet here from Nick Seaver, brilliant Tufts' University Anthropology professor (who went to Yale as undergrad, UC Irvine for Ph.D. and is from Los Angeles originally ... am very 'place' oriented as informing culture in my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" too for example ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~)

Were you a hippy, Guiliaume? :)

Bonjour Guillemette, et tout (Laurent, Françoise, Guillaume, Jane, Sandy),

Please meet the Ehrmanns, Ehrmanns please meet Guillemette (a friend I met on a cross-country Green Tortoise 'hippy bus' trip in 1994, I think, and whom I travelled to Paris to visit over Christmas for about 5 weeks in 1994-'95). It was so lovely to stay with you in the 12th Arrondissement (was it?), Guillemette, and to visit Croissy-sur-Seine with your parents and family as well. The Ehrmanns are family friends from 1966-1972 in New Haven, Connecticut, where both my father and Jacques Ehrmann were on the faculty at Yale University. The Ehrmanns live in Paris, and Laurent lives in Bordeaux esp.

Here's the Street View version of Croissy -

Guillemette Renault Fenain lives now in the NW of France, I think, and no longer in Paris. (Her father worked with IBM, and her brother, Benoit, used to have / has very very long hair, and is a sound engineer :)

I've added some of our email conversation thus far here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/12/bluebell-barleria-barleria-cristata.html - for a bit further context regarding this out-of-the blue greeting, Guillemette and all!

How are you and Bertrand? And how are your children? :)

Salut, Laurent, Françoise, Guillaume, Jane, Sandy, Guillemette,

(My phone seems to have, for the first time, gone into forever boot-up mode ... the G on this Google Pixel 3a in startup mode has had a processing line under it suggesting an update, now working for about 15 minutes, and since my last email to all of you:)

Back to Aging Reversal via genetic engineering of my first email, and

Harvard and MIT's George Church -
60 Minutes: "How soon could humans reverse the aging process with genetic engineering?" (1 minute)
https://youtu.be/bnCEIPQFNnk

... this just popped up on Twitter, from Church ... pretty wild stuff ...

Transcription Factors, TFome:  aging forward & reverse
https://hms.harvard.edu/news/vision-revision

https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1335318813320114178?s=20

Re-Tweeted  here - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch - and may elsewhere (haven't read it yet, but will ... and will we be able to edit our own genomes from our smartphones - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics?src=hashtag_click - backwards and forward ... "I'd like my cheeks to look 10 years younger," kind of thing, totally hypothetically since the proof of aging reversal genetically is so so early per George Church's 1 minute video above ...)

Will we all be communicating in 500 years, or 245,000 years :0 ? And would you like to meet over a glass of wine or similar in a Google Meet video conference (which my mother can host, but I would send the link to her with which to host :) just to visit?

Warmly, Scott

Thanks so much for your email invitation to Paris again, Françoise. Françoise, am not sure who the Annette in Germany is you refer to in your email, but I have been in touch with my Dutch friend, Nanette Van Nes (a professional orchestral oboist at the time), whom I know well from Cuttyhunk (and then she visited SF 3 or 4 years ago with her husband and 2 boys - and it was so nice to see them), ~ ~ ~ and it was in 1997 (not 1983) that she visited Cuttyhunk ... Could my & Nanette's good connection then ... To be seen ... am not clear what the next baby steps might be here :)

And if we do live another 1000 years or much longer even???, and are communicating then, regarding these 2 new Harvard / MIT Prof. of Genetics' George Church articles - https://hms.harvard.edu/news/custom-ordered-cells (https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1335318813320114178?s=20) - and - https://hms.harvard.edu/news/vision-revision (https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1335397228475768832?s=20 ) ...
