EActually, says Sabine Heiser, her flight with Lufthansa from South Korea to Germany started "exemplary". "Everyone was wearing a mask and the middle seats remained free," says the 57-year-old, who lives in Seoul and flew to Munich-Tegel at the end of June because of her elderly parents. In the end, however, she was "somewhat stunned".
Conversations like this with Sabine Heiser show: Which rules apply when and where does not go without saying. The questions - and thus the uncertainty - fly along. What you should definitely know:

Radical warming in Siberia threatens destruction
The Arctic is feverish and on fire, or at least parts of it are, and that's got scientists worried about what it means for the rest of the world.
The thermometer hit a record of 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Russian Arctic town of Verkhoyansk on 20th of June, a temperature that would be a fever for a person but this is Siberia, known for being frozen. The World Meteorological Organization said that it's looking to verify the temperature reading, which would be unprecedented for the region north of the Arctic Circle

Hodgepodge of rules stymie those seeking coronavirus tests to meet vacation requirements
New Maine guidelines mandate that out-of-state visitors (except those from New Hampshire and Vermont, and now New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut) quarantine for 14 days upon arrival or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test conducted no longer than 72 hours before arrival. That requirement has stymied many Massachusetts residents, who say they’ve encountered a baffling array of rules among different testing sites, making it challenging to get timely results.

What I've been watching

Over the past week, I have watched the six-part HBO miniseries The Plot Against America, which came out in March. It is based on the 2004 Philip Roth novel of the same title and tells an alternative history in which FDR is defeated in 1940 by the fascist-sympathizing Charles Lindbergh through the eyes of a Jewish family living in Newark, NJ. Compelling story, well acted. It is the best piece of television I have seen in years.
