Immersive experiences can be inspiring, surprising and exciting for end users, Actual Harbin Hot Springs pools are also immersive
Harbin ethnography:
... open-ended quality of these immersive experiences can be inspiring, surprising and exciting for end users.
Actual Harbin Hot Springs pools are also immersive, and in my interpretation of actual Harbin involve “the experience of entering into the simulation of a three-dimensional environment” which is warm water, with other people who are naked, and where the simulation includes the bodymind's experience of a specific kind of relaxation response, tactilely mediated - in water at body temperature - in this aqueous, three-dimensional environment. In actual Harbin, the visual aspect of this watery 'simulation,' to distinguish this from a screen-simulation – the experience of being in the unusual, beautiful environment of the Harbin warm pool, for example - isn't mediated by a screen, but rather by the touch of the warm water, and perhaps a friend, or puddles of friends, which occurs with some frequency in the Harbin warm pool. So the simulation of virtual Harbin as screen-simulated place, and the simulation of actual Harbin as warm water-simulated place have similar immersive effects. In this ethnographic interpretation, actual Harbin's immersive warm water-simulation qualities of virtualness correspond closely in life with virtual Harbin's immersive qualities as three dimensional space. In virtual Harbin immersion experience on screen, add sitting warm water in your bath tub at home with visiting this digital environment, and you can begin to elicit the relaxation response further. At actual Harbin, as you release in the immersive aqueous environment of the warm pool, and begin to look around in this beautiful actual place, with naked people, some cuddling, and all experiencing the effects of the body temperature water, you have a parallel immersive experience, similar yet different. In suggesting various qualities of immersion vis-a-vis actual and virtual experiences of Harbin Hot Springs, warm water comes to extend and re-define aspects of defining 'immersion' vis-a-vis digital environments).

Flight: Immersion refers to “the experience of entering into the simulation of a 3-D environment”. Second Life is technically a 3-D environment in 2-D
Harbin ethnography:
... a unique trail of personal association for the avatar builder who spoke with actual Ishvara.
Immersion refers to “the experience of entering into the simulation of a three-dimensional environment” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxxi). Second Life is technically a three-dimensional environment in a two-dimension environment, since avatars move through three-dimensional space in a xyz grid, while endusers control their avatar, and engage this immersive experience, on a two-dimensional screen. 'Virtual reality' three-dimensional environments often can refer to digital simulations experienced with 'gloves,' 'hats,' and other prostheses that let individuals enter into immersive experiences in other ways besides visually and auditorially; such immersive experiences make possible tactile, kinesthetic and even olfactory experiences, for example. But both Second Life and Open Simulator are three-dimensionally immersive from an avatar's perspective, as well as immersive in three-dimensions, on a two-dimensional screen, from an end-user's perspective. Avatar immersion in Second Life includes the ability to fly, as well as the ability to build three-dimensional objects in this three-dimensional space. The open-ended quality of these immersive experiences can be inspiring, surprising and exciting for end users.

Oak Tree Branch: Hypermedia refers to “the linking of separate media elements to one another to create a trail of personal association”
Harbin ethnography:
... Interactivity in virtual Harbin is what will further Harbin as counterculture.
Hypermedia refers to “the linking of separate media elements to one another to create a trail of personal association” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxx). In Second Life, the act of building accentuates this process in unique ways. The sheer number of avatar builders also informs a scale of building that both leads to individual trails of personal association, but also affects all of the Second Life, and Open Simulator, environments as fascinating group associations. In virtual Harbin, such linkings inform and emerge in relation to actual Harbin. For example, Harbin's founder, Ishvara, who still lives at Harbin, might say to an avatar builder that the Heart-shaped pool in the pool area was built in the early 1980s as an expression of Heart Consciousness Church. And, in building the virtual Heart-shaped pool, the avatar builder of virtual Harbin might then create Hypermedia that makes it possible, if the first virtual Harbin heart shape pool is full with avatars practicing watsu, allow them to click a heart which then creates a temporary 2 heart shaped pool in the sky above. Such hypermedia, informed by actual Harbin history by its founder, Ishvara, then makes possible the linking of media elements which become a unique trail for the avatar builder who spoke with actual Ishvara.

Red Freesias: Arriving to Harbin in the mist and rain
Arriving to Harbin
in the mist
and rain,
after an amazing
flax seed oil
omega fatty acids'
drive
through the
moist, wet, alive
Napa Valley,
listening to the Dead,
I walk up
past the temple
with the dance,
up through the
wet, dark, verdant garden
and ascend the steps
of Stonefront Lodge.
Walking down past me,
he asks "Are they
dancing down there?"
Nice words :)
Yea, they're dancing,
dancing, dancing
in the temple.
I walk up farther past
the Health Services'
Massage Office and into the
pool area dressing room.
Five women are naked,
here changing,
with no men around right now.
And there's a sculptor I know
who has made
beautiful art
at Harbin.
Oh, and now she in the
dressing room is very pregnant.
Into the waters -
the warm pool
releases so profoundly -
and lovely oneness comes.
I sit in lotus
on the shelf
at the end of the pool
and release,
and release,
into the now~
Home again.
Rain drops
in the pool
form spider webs.
Rain drops
on our heads
bring weather home.
Wet from above,
and the warm
water is all around …
such a fluid world.
Out of the pools,
I walk down to bed.
In the morning,
I awake with money
concerns.
Arising early
on a quiet damp
mid-week morn,
I head into
the empty temple
to explore
the relaxation response.
It's warm and welcoming,
and I sit -
relaxation response
MMmmm. :)
This ocher floor
is a cosmos -
with red galaxies
and brown cloud formations, -
native American earth
in Harbin temple.

Iceberg: Is this BP Gulf of Mexico ecological disaster, & societal response, an ex. of what's to come w managing Global Warming? WUaS Software Focus
Is this BP Gulf of Mexico ecological disaster, and societal response, an example of what's to come with managing Global Warming and Climate Change?
Let's develop plans now to manage rising oceans and global warming. An open subject about this is already here at WUaS: worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Ocean_%26_Climate_Management_Plan (accessible here: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects).

20 Feet sea level rise was a mid-range scenario from Al Gore's film "An Inconvenient Truth." And even a 2-10 inches ocean rise (which I have heard as a scientifically realistic estimate for years - scientists are just modeling possibilities here) over 20-100 years, with 2-10 degrees Fahrenheit potential increase is a lot, and will cost everyone a lot!
Climate is one of the most complex scientific questions there is, and the world runs on oil ... challenges ahead ... electric cars will help, but the world still has to generate energy while significantly reducing CO2 output, which isn't easy.
Let's think of the global warming and ocean's rising, worldwide, in terms of house insurance. Buy it.
A friend in California asks:
If you are in the know, and it seems that you are, where would you live? If you could live anywhere in the u.s. that felt the safest where would that be? We can run but we can't hide from mother nature's reply to our lifestyle.

Lungwort: Interactivity refers to “the ability of the user to manipulate & affect [his and] her experience of media directly, & to communicate this
Harbin ethnography:
... to extend the parameters of the artistic and technological combining of media elements.
Interactivity refers to “the ability of the user to manipulate and affect [his and] her experience of media directly, and to communicate with others through media” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxx). Engaging this aspect of this characterization of virtual reality, Second Life, and Open Simulator which borrows from the same library of assets, makes possible novel forms of interactivity, e.g. building from 'prims' which start as resizable geometric shapes – 3-D cubes, cones, spheres - and that can include wavy, water-like and fluid forms made from scripts. Individuals can also write new scripts in Second Life which informs new aspects of animating objects and shaping interactive codes. But human communicative interactivity in Second Life occurs via voice chat and type chat. Avatars can gesture, for example, drink a cup of tea, fly, dance with other avatars, make love, and build virtual objects, so gestural interactivity in virtual worlds like Second Life makes many actual human interactions possible. And Second Life has a currency, the Linden dollar, which is exchangeable for U.S. Dollars at variable rates, and potentially with other currencies, too, making possible a variety of forms of economic interactivity in this virtual world. Interactivity in virtual Harbin then includes the possibility for avatars visiting this simulation to build virtual objects and processes unique to Harbin, its 'culture,' and the kinds of interactions that happen at actual Harbin. For example, in the Harbin unconditional dance mentioned above, an avatar scripter at virtual Harbin might make robust the code for dragging and dropping a video of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead onto a floating bubble dancing over the heads of other dancers. And similarly, Harbin avatar coders may begin to explore writing scripts for the range of Watsu (water shiatsu) movements as actual interactivity in the Harbin pools creates new movements. Emerging from the 1960s, the New Age, and Universal Spirituality, Harbin, too, is a very 'spiritual' place with remarkably rich New Age thinking and communication, all potentially explored interactively anew in virtual Harbin with people from all over the world communicating.
The sheer number of avatar builders also informs a scale of building that both leads to trails of personal association, but also affects all of the Second Life, and Open Simulator, environments as fascinating group associations...
Immersion refers to “the experience of entering into the simulation of a three-dimensional environment” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxxi). Second Life is technically a 3-D environment in 2-D. Immersion, in Packer and Jordan's analysis usually refers to the 'gloves' and 'hats' that let one experience media in 'virtual reality,' but both Second Life and Open Simulator are both very immersive from an avatar's perspective...
Narrativity refers to “aesthetic and formal strategies that derive from the above concepts, and which result in nonlinear story forms and media presentation” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxxi). Multiple new kinds of narrativity emerge in Second Life influenced by the ability to make anything one conceives of out of virtual geometric shapes, thus reshaping possibilities for nonlinear story forms and media presentations... )

Nudibranch: To conceptualize 'virtual reality,' "Multimedia" - integration, interactivity, hypermedia, immersion, new forms of narrativity
Harbin ethnography:
... In many ways, without spoken and written language, the possibility to interpret, ethnographically, the virtual, vis-a-vis actual and virtual Harbin doesn't occur.
To conceptualize 'virtual reality' in terms of world wide web representations, I suggest that what's unique about multimedia are the following five characteristics: integration, interactivity, hypermedia, immersion, new forms of narrativity (Packer and Jordan 2000).
Integration refers to “the combining of artistic forms and technology into a hybrid form of expression” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxx). Second Life makes possible an ongoing integration of media elements in unique ways. For example, a programmer might write scripts in Second Life which bring together the drag and drop programming language Scratch, made by MIT's Lifelong Kindergarten Group in the Media Lab, with new ways of doing things in this Second Life virtual world environment. Second life and Open Simulator are thus designed on the principle of integrating new media elements leading to ongoing hybrid forms of expression. In this actual / virtual Harbin ethnography, comparative field work focusing on relationship between doing unique things, for example, in the warm pool at actual Harbin Hot Springs, and integrating media elements in virtual Harbin in Second Life becomes possible. As an open platform, virtual Harbin is open to further exploration of integrating media elements by avatar-builders, both artistically and technically, - ethnographically. {Similarly, in this actual / virtual Harbin ethnography, comparative field work focusing on relationship between soaking, for example, in the warm pool at actual Harbin Hot Springs and these specific virtual effects, and soaking in one's own home bathtub while visiting virtual Harbin in Second Life becomes possible. When warm water becomes a media element integrated with its effects on bodyminds in conjunction with visiting virtual Harbin, we can begin to interpret new aspects of integration of media elements}. Virtual worlds such as virtual Harbin, influenced, and inspired, by, actual life come to extend the parameters of artistic and technological combining of media elements.
(Interactivity refers to “the ability of the user to manipulate and affect [his and] her experience of media directly, and to communicate with others through media” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxx). Using this aspect of this characterization of virtual reality, Second Life, and Open Simulator which borrows from the same library of assets, make possible novel forms of interactivity, e.g. building from 'prims' including wavy, water-like and fluid forms from scripts, as well as voice chat and type chat, and avatar gestural interactivity...
Hypermedia refers to “the linking of separate media elements to one another to create a trail of personal association” (Packer and Jordan 2001: xxx). In Second Life, the act of building accentuates this process in unique ways.
Mountain Goat: Support World University and School in its work for worldwide learning!
World University and School
worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University
Dear Friend,
Support World University and School in its work for worldwide learning! It's a global, digital, open, free-to-students, multilingual university & school, where anyone can teach or take a class or course, - like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware. World University and School is an education and service organization funded by you, which will change thousands of lives each year.
World University and School is presently developing a global, degree-granting, virtual university and school, with great universities including MIT, Ivy League Schools, Stanford, U.C. Berkeley, Oxford, Sorbonne, Juilliard Music School and Cambridge. It's for everyone, especially for students in the developing world and countries participating in "One Laptop per Child."
World University is already open for learning. You can teach a course or take a class now. You can learn the equivalent of a degree through MIT right now, selecting from its 2,000 courses and video lectures. Or you can teach or potentially take a fun or fascinating class about Mozart, massage, painting, calculus, or sculpture, - whatever your area of interest or specialization. This can be done in any language, in any country, potentially with many free degrees, or at any level of education.
World University is presently planning four degrees - Bachelor, Law, M.D., and Ph.D. - with matriculating classes in 2014 in English. And World University & School hopes to make teaching and learning materials available in every language and in many countries. World University and School is designing this educational resource to work on "One Laptop Per Child" computers in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Colombia, Haiti, Mexico, Peru, USA (Birmingham, Alabama), Uruguay, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Cambodia, & Papua New Guinea. These resources will also work on video-capable, programmable, mobile phone-like devices ("broadband video on a handheld"). And people in developing world countries can add their own teaching and learning resources to this World University wiki (editable web pages). MIT Open Course Ware will be our model for degree-granting, academic, course work.
With the interactive virtual world of Second Life, it's now possible to engage with almost every aspect of learning which occurs in the classroom. These virtual world technologies will develop significantly in the next few years. On its own, World University and School has the potential to generate a remarkable archive of teaching and learning resources over time.
We need your help.
Envision learning, teaching and idea-exchanging anew. Build on the existing 'university' and 'school' with World University and School!
Sincerely,
Scott

Illuminated Star Cloud: The dance or the pools? First the dance then the pools
The dance or the pools?
First the dance then the pools.
Long haired folks with
flowing clothes - wild and free.
What a shift -
from the city.
Listen first,
hear the rhythm,
dance a little,
cool, - then away.
Up to the pools,
past the Temple
with its white and
colored lights.
(A woman at the dance
is topless.
She starts to make out with
her friend on the pillows).
How glorious.
And Harbin's evening
illumination is all around.
So soft, - and
so nice to be back ...
Rainbow Gathering? ...
The moon is out,
the garden grasses
are high, and
the air is
fragrant.
I walk up and
there inside
Stonefront lodge,
I see her feet,
for she is lying
on her back
on a sofa, reading.
Past the Gazebo,
under the starlight,
I walk farther
up the way
past Redwood lodge
under the sun deck, and
into the pool area.
Welcome home.
It's dark.
I go into a bathroom,
shut the door,
and write some more -
this here now.
To the warm pool now,
leaving my clothes
on the benches
under the grape arbor.
To the pools.
In,
in ease under,
holding my ears,
float ...
Then to the shelf at one end,
and into lotus pose,
now relaxation response, MMmmm.
Inside, I go deeper -
she's pretty -
then out of the warmth
and into the hot pool.
In the dark,
the candle -
in its holder with holes
that illuminate
a heart image in metal -
looks like a golden brooch
on the neck of the
woman's bust
with flowers in her hair
above the whale spout.
The hot pool is
so beautiful
illuminated by candles
in many ways,
and steam,
in the night,
rises.
And there a woman
sits on
the dolphin railing stairs,
receiving the heat
of this earth's energy.
Out of the pool,
I head to shower,
skipping the
cold plunge,
and walk through
the dark pool area,
cement under foot -
it's joy to be walking
naked here -
to the new little deck
at the far end
of the pool area.
No one is around -
Stars -
then back,
put on my clothes
walk down through
Harbin again,
into the garden,
and past the temple
and to bed.

Marin Watershed: Anthropologically, this ethnography highlights both the differences and the similarities of actual and virtual Harbin Hot Springs.
Harbin ethnography:
... by avatars there who have permissions to digitally build and create it.
Anthropologically, this ethnography highlights both the differences and the similarities of actual and virtual Harbin Hot Springs. It thus explicitly contrasts the two, as a binary, as it also examines the multiply ways they are similar, especially in terms of ethnographic representation. While characterizing both involves anthropological interpretation (Cerwonka and Malkki, 2007) of separate discourses, their interplay and the contexts from which both arise – an on-the-ground place with a culture emerging out of the milieu of the freedom-oriented social movements of the 1960s - make the interpretations of these binarisms and similarities particularly edifying in exploring the virtual. Both actual and virtual Harbin, as contexts for alternative ways of life, as expressions of different, countercultural worldviews, are also both expressions of New Age thinking, and are thus, at Harbin especially, expressions of a kind of philosophical, religio-connected oneness, that is of similarity emerging out of Harbin thinking and the Harbin pools. As such, the similarities and differences in this ethnography are interpretations of both myself as author and ethnographer of Harbin, as well as you. I thus ask you, the reader, to rif openly in your own bodymind on complementary interpretations emerging in relation to the differences and similarities of actual/virtual Harbin.

Wilderness: virtual here refers to something “that is so in essence or effect, although not formally or actually"
Harbin ethnography:
Just as in Boellstorff's book (2008: 18), key terms in my ethnography of Harbin Hot Springs are 'actual' and 'virtual.' In the context of both digital, virtual worlds, as well as human, symbolic processes of representation, virtual here refers to something “that is so in essence or effect, although not formally or actually.” This definition has utility in this actual-virtual ethnography of Harbin Hot Springs in making it possible to examine linguistic correspondences between on-the-ground Harbin and the essence or effect of modeling a physical place using computer code to create interactive representations – virtual Harbin - that allow for type-chat and voice communications – human symbolic processes – among a whole variety of human interactions. This OED definition further highlights the distinction, in this instance, between Harbin the actual place and Harbin the digital representational construction. Interactive human experience in actual and virtual Harbins has multiply, if not infinite, parallels, - while the ongoing multiple distinctions and differentiations of the between the potential (Massumi 2002:30) of virtual Harbin to be like actual life at Harbin, ethnographically interpreted, in this comparative approach, aren't minimized. The significance of this interpretation of actual and virtual is that it yclepts (Money 1988: 118) or classifies and labels, both what's similar and different about actual/virtual Harbin in an unfolding way. Actual Harbin changes continually in terms of process and temporality in a developing way, and virtual Harbin allows also for its ongoing construction, by avatars there who have permissions to digitally build and create it.

Old Growth Forest, Scottish Highlands: World University Wiki as Pathways for Mind-Tinkers, Friendly Naturalism
Nontheist Friends,
Besides enabling people-teaching-to-people wiki-wise (like Wikipedia) in video, as well as in real time in virtual worlds like Second Life, World University and School also focuses on MIT Open Course Ware, UC Berkeley webcasts, and other great universities' open and free content (worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses#University_course_listings). So as WUaS aggregates the 1900 MIT courses, etc., this WIKI will become a remarkable number of pathways for mind-tinkers to wander.
Thanks for adding the link to your Quaker Naturalism article at World University and School - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Naturalism. ('Naturalism,' 'Pragmatism,' and 'Consciousness' are all linked from WUaS's developing 'Philosophy' page - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Philosophy).

Silver Birch: a nontheistic, friendly naturalist, curious about serendipity & synchronicity, & appreciative of Quakers, Rorty, Ecstasy & Loving Bliss
Thanks, nontheist Friends,
Yes, here now ... I'm a nontheistic, friendly naturalist, curious about serendipity and synchronicity, and appreciative of Quaker community, and Friendly pragmatic caring, for example, AFSC and FCNL ...
To complement your characterization of 'naturalism,' O, here's the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy's entry on 'Naturalism' - plato.stanford.edu/entries/naturalism.
In a related vein, I'm also sympathetic in a nontheistic Friendly way with Richard Rorty's thinking about Pragmatism. Here's a 46 second clip of him - youtube.com/watch?v=kBcOGa671QA - in an interview in Holland in 2000. This clip is excerpted from a fascinating hour long interview (section 23), which I've posted to World University & School's 'Pragmatism' page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Pragmatism, along with the 46 second clip. In the interview, this Stanford Professor of Comparative Literature and far-reaching philosopher talks about ecstasy at around the 28 minute mark (so I've also added this interview to WUaS's entry on Loving Bliss elicitation - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_%28eliciting_this_neurophysiology%29:), in the context of naturalism; as a naturalist himself, Rorty was also a bird and orchid expert and he found ecstasy, personally, in nature. And here's World University & School's beginning 'Naturalism' page - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Naturalism - to which nontheist Friends might add articles. I've added Os' Friends' Journal article on Naturalism here. And as an open wiki, we can all teach and add to World University and School.
With friendly greetings,
Scott

Is World University and School Harvard in the 1650s, or Stanford or Berkeley in the 1890s?
How can we make this so?

Sweet Birch: Questions of Determinism on the nontheist Friends' Email List, John Money's 'Concepts of Determinism'
Nontheist Friends:
May I add to this conversation with John Money's "Concepts of Determinism" to which I've referred before.
"Concepts of Determinism" (Money 1988: 114-118):
scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2009/09/planets-around-sun-john-moneys-concepts.html
And here:
scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2010/04/bonobo-bliss-i-return-to-questions-of.html
Rather than a kind of "Oxford Companion to Philosophy," or 'traditional,' approach to very old philosophical questions of determinism and free will, or agency, I prefer to engage these Money-ian evolutionary biology and human-centric approaches to 'determinism,' influenced by all the generations of life that precede us, back to the beginning of life. Emerging from his sexological research, he suggests these "Concepts of Determinism" -
pairbonding,
troopbonding,
abidance,
ycleptance and
foredoomance,
with these coping strategies -
adhibition (engaging),
inhibition and
explication -
are transcultural, transhistorical and universal.
Sincerely,
Scott

Whip-poor-will: Education - Freedom & Equality, Pertaining to this education conversation, I'd just like to remind nontheist Friends of World Univ
Hi, nontheist Friends,
Pertaining to this education conversation, I'd just like to remind nontheist Friends of World University & School - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University - an open, free, WIKI university and school. It's like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware, UC Berkeley webcasts and where you and I can teach to our web cameras to each other. There's a free degree section, with a free Doctoral degree from Harvard in education in 2011 and 2012, for 25 students, listed here (worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses#Free_Degree_Programs), as a start.
I'm happy to say that we just incorporated as a charity in the State of California, as of April 30, 2010.
I'm the main developer of WUaS at this point, but I hope it will grow like Wikipedia has, through openness. I hope it will also be in all languages, countries, subjects and levels.
And since I'm the main developer, World University & School has a nontheistically Friendly current, with 'nontheist Friends' (worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Nontheist_Friends_%28atheist_Quakers%3F%29) and 'Quaker' (worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends) as subjects, but also with atheistic Quaker process informing its business practices and processes, now online. You can get to the unprogrammed Quaker Meeting in Second Life from both of these Friendly links.
There's already a lot of open teaching and learning material at WUaS already, and I hope this will grow. Legally, WUaS is in the Creative Commons sphere.
As a wiki which will eventually offer credit and degrees, I hope it will build on the experiments of Friends/Quaker Schools in the States, as well as A.S. Neill's Summerhill, as well as create an opportunity for us. Both sought to create freedom from existing educational processes and systems.
And I'd like to extend an invitation here to you to participate in World University and School. There are may ways to do this, but simply clicking on 'edit this page' and teaching, adding teaching resources, or learning, is the simplest. There's even a budding 'World University Music School' - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School. Let's create nontheistically Friendly music. :)
Sincerely,
Scott

A hummingbird in Canyon, which I've never before seen here, flies right up & hovers in front of my intense-blue, mountaineering glasses' lenses. Are these blue lenses a sign of food, mating, another hummingbird's plummage or what?

Goliath Heron: World University & School has incorporated!, Rorty on Pragmatism, and Ecstasy
World University & School has incorporated in the State of California - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University!
I hope we can make WUaS flourish, and that it will help a lot of people, - by making free, open Teaching and Learning possible.

Rorty on Pragmatism (46 secs) at World Univ & Sch's Pragmatism 'subject' - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Pragmatism#Select_Video_and_Audio
Rorty, Richard. 2000. Rorty on Pragmatism. (46 seconds). (www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBcOGa671QA). (from interview by Wim Kayzer, "Of Beauty and Consolation" (Part 23) Dutch TV (VPRO) 2000). Amsterdam, NL: Dutch TV (VPRO).

In response to Rorty (at around the 57 minute mark), I think one can elicit ecstasy: worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_%28eliciting_this_neurophysiology%29. A significant focus of this blog is an exploration of loving bliss elicitation as neurophysiology, and naturally. Why didn't Rorty think of this?

Trinity Alp: The term 'place' entails a name, boundaries, unique social and physical qualities, a distinctive kind of permanence, Harbin Pools
Harbin ethnography:
... its virtuality is informed by the 1960s to this day, as field work will show.
The term 'place' entails a name, boundaries, unique social and physical qualities, a distinctive kind of permanence (Harvey 1996: 293), and related cultural processes, interpreted ethnographically. Place is describable in terms of place-time coordinates and is therefore an entity which occurs within, and is transformative of, the constitution of space-time (Harvey 1996: 294). But taken with other topographic features, permanence here is relative. Besides permanence, the idea of online ‘place’ also includes names, representations of boundaries, distinctive social qualities, and representations of physical qualities. The idea of ‘place’ thus becomes mediated by representations of physical aspects of a particular kind. In the context of the world wide web, online representations of virtual Harbin, which avatar builders generated have specific characteristics which shape the experience of the computer user visiting it. These aspects of virtual Harbin add progressive layers of representation between the viewer and physical Harbin Hot Springs, which the individual would otherwise not experience soaking in the pools there. Information, for example, which the computer user can see in the virtual Harbin, as well as critical digital information about the actual Harbin such as captions, is, by the same token, not available in person when visiting the Harbin valley. The web site thus constitutes aspects of Harbin Hot Springs as ‘place’ as defined above, but of a different order. Thus, the concept of ‘place’ offers a useful mode of analysis for contrasting virtual and actual Harbin Hot Springs. virtual Harbin – of the mind … defining virtuality in terms of place and culture. And the Harbin pools as place broaden conceptions of the anthropological 'field site' in terms of fluid fields, with unique 'cultural' effects.

Yellow Flower: Counterculture as a form of culture in actual and virtual Harbin Hot Springs as place, the Virtual, Place
Harbin ethnography:
... growing literature of virtual worlds in anthropology to contribute to the conversation.
In this book I examine 'counterculture' as a form of culture in actual and virtual Harbin Hot Springs, - in the context of virtuality as instantiated by digital virtual worlds, such as the Second Life and Open Simulator computer programs, especially as place on the World Wide Web. Going from the actual Harbin Hot Springs valley in northern California, and its pool area, to virtual islands and hot springs in Second Life and Open Simulator as representations of place which influence and inform milieu and culture, I define place as space-time coordinates, as well as ideas of permanence, names, representations of boundaries, distinctive social qualities, and representations of physical qualities. In this book the term 'virtual' refers to the world of ideas created by the use of symbols, here and now mediated by digital representations of place online. By way of comparison, Castronova defines 'virtual world' as “any computer-generated physical space … that can be experienced by many people at once” (Castronova 2005: 22). Within this context, ethnographic inquiry into ways in which landscapes as place are culturally constructed is relatively unexamined (Feld and Basso, 1996: ). With Boellstorff (2008: 17) and Castronova, all virtual worlds have three fundamental elements: “they are (1) places, (2) inhabited by persons, and (3) enabled by online technologies. Actual and virtual Harbin here, then, are culturally constructed virtual spaces, informed by place. What makes Harbin unique is the way in which its virtuality is informed by the 1960s to this day, as field work will show.

Hylodes: Played a benefit among UC Berkeley students who were raising support for cancer research, World University's Medical School & Research Focus
Just played a benefit among UC Berkeley students who were raising support for cancer research (American Cancer Society - main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=20290).
These mostly students put together a moving ceremony, for example, to honor many of their own family members who had died from cancer, by coming up to an open microphone to say something about them. They also performed for each other singing and in Bollywood dances. And I lead a procession around the track playing "Amazing Grace."
Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as people affiliated with Cal, raised monies for the American Cancer Society by getting sponsors for walks, etc., and these student also celebrated with a party from 10 am Saturday, May 1, to 10 am Sunday, May 2, some camping out in tents in Edwards Stadium at Bancroft Ave and Fulton.
*
Let's develop World University's Medical School focus - worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School - especially on cancer research, and especially here at WUaS Research: worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Research.
