Transcriptome-wide association studies (TWAS) help identify disease causing genes, but
often fail to pinpoint disease mechanisms at the cellular level because of the limited sample
sizes and sparsity of cell-type–specific expression data. Here we propose scPrediXcan which
integrates state-of-the-art deep learning approaches that predict epigenetic features from DNA
sequences with the canonical TWAS framework. Our prediction approach,

A transcriptome is the complete set of RNA transcripts, or gene readouts, in a cell or tissue at a specific time or condition. It includes messenger RNA (mRNA), ribosomal RNA, transfer RNA, micro-RNA, and other noncoding RNAs. 
The transcriptome is different from the genome, which is relatively stable, because the transcriptome can change depending on environmental conditions and an organism's stage of development. The study of the transcriptome is called transcriptomics, which reveals which genes are being actively expressed in a cell at any given time.
