As a follow up, I amended some of the 'Tony Wilkinson' details below, (whom I liked but whose possible SF East Bay networks may be murderous ... and as I seek to stay alive and move forward into a newly safe vacant 670 Ridgecrest Rd, Canyon 94516 soon-ish, with US federal and state of CA law working in new ways effectively ...AND even as Google rolls out 2 step verification for 'superAdmins' by 10/9/25 - https://admin.google.com/ ... such as moi at World University and School, I just learned this morning ... when this Google email address sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org became not visible among my email inboxes on my smartphone, except when an email from Stanford Law CodeX's Roland Vogl came in this morning re Pexora, for example) ... 

And I just recalled regarding work worlduniversityandschool.org not working presently, that back in 2015 this Domain URL - worlduniversityandschool.org - was verified or similar by Google itself ... re developing security questions too I think ... and for the Gate Hostway Gate Support Team and Gate billing email ... so this could all be a challenge for Gate.com / Hostway.com coders and programmers, especially regarding security questions eg 2 step Verification with Google for Education 'superAdmins' etc.

So perhaps worlduniversityandschool.org will be accessible again when a lot of new coding for it regarding (Google?) information technology infrastructure with AI and ML and security + iterates ...

Good morning. Just received a message on my laptop earlier that my disk is almost full.

Came over to A5 storage in Moraga and got external hard drive out of storage space, and as I started to try to backup my laptop, my laptop said "Backup failed ..." I rebooted and am trying to backup hard drive but laptop has said 'Preparing backup' for about 15 minutes ... While it says last backup done on July 31 2025 but I may have done One more recently than that.

  • Privacy and data protection: Prenuptial agreements contain sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII). Training an LLM with this data, even if anonymized, requires robust privacy safeguards and compliance with regulations like GDPR.
  • Intellectual property (IP): Training on copyrighted legal texts, especially if not permissively licensed, is legally risky. Legal documents are often subject to copyright, and using them for commercial LLM training can result in lawsuits.
  • Bias and fairness: Legal documents, particularly older ones, may contain embedded biases. It is critical to curate and evaluate your training data to ensure the LLM's outputs are fair and accurate, without perpetuating historical injustices.
  • Hallucinations: Even with a high-quality dataset, LLMs can "hallucinate" and generate legally inaccurate but plausible-sounding text. This risk is especially high in a domain like law, where small errors can have major consequences. 
Fine-tuning vs. pre-training
For your use case, the most viable and ethical path is fine-tuning an existing open-source LLM, rather than training one from scratch. 
Approach 1: Domain-specific fine-tuning (recommended)
This method adapts an existing, powerful LLM to your legal domain.
  1. Select an open-source model: Choose a robust, open-source LLM with a permissive license, such as:
    • LLaMA 3.1: A powerful, recently released model from Meta.
    • Falcon 2: Developed by the Technology Innovation Institute with strong performance.
    • Mistral Small: Ideal for advanced reasoning tasks and multilingual applications.
  2. Gather fine-tuning data: Collect high-quality legal data specific to your application, such as:
    • Anonymized legal clauses: Use public or licensed data to build a dataset of anonymized contractual clauses.
    • Legal statutes and regulations: Scrape relevant family and contract law legislation from government sources.
    • Legal QA pairs: Create or crowdsource questions and answers to teach the model how to respond to legal queries.
  3. Fine-tune the model: Use a parameter-efficient method (PEFT) like LoRA to train the base model on your curated, legal-specific data. 
Approach 2: Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
This alternative approach does not require fine-tuning. Instead, it uses a legal knowledge base to guide the LLM's responses.
  1. Build a legal vector database: Load your collected legal documents into a vector database, such as Chroma or Weaviate.
  2. Use an open-source LLM: Use an off-the-shelf open-source LLM and a framework like LangChain.
  3. Retrieve and generate: When a user asks a question, the system first retrieves relevant legal clauses from your database and then uses the LLM to generate an answer based on that specific, accurate information. 
Recommendation: For your goal, a combination of both is likely best. Use a well-rounded open-source model like LLaMA 3.1 or Mistral Small and fine-tune it with a smaller, high-quality set of relevant legal data. Then, implement a RAG system using a vector database populated with the most up-to-date legal statutes and general contractual principles. This provides a safe, accurate, and ethical approach to building your legal LLM
