Dear Ma, Pin, Ed, Peter, 

Greetings from Cuttyhunk. How are you? I was just reading Elizabeth Warren's 2014 book "A Fighting Chance," co-written with her daughter from her first marriage, Amelia Tyagi (also a Brown University alum like you Peter), and it made me wonder If you, Ma, and I could co-write my upcoming book "Society, Information Technology and the Global University"; and regarding your mentioning your writing group on Saturday too. 

How might we best proceed, and even methodology-wise? 

Might you Ma read the first ~8 chapters - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ixaswGD0Iat2zh52e2_9xr0yieXO6r49xRoPVJL1A4c/edit?usp=sharing - and then could we please come further into conversation (beyond your reading these chapters) regarding the potential chapters about WUaS as a global university with research and with AI and ML ? 

Or, after you read the first ~8 chapters, and we talk about these, could I then tell a narrative to video ... eg about museums and write from this, further in conversation with you ? 

And besides writing from undergraduates (and a general audience interested in the information age) in America, write for a Google Educator Group GEG Ahmedabad, India type audience of mostly educators, most of whom don't speak English as a first language, and into whose languages I could with Google Translate translate "Society, Information Technology and the Global University" into their first languages and particularly tinto translate into Gujarati too ... 

Ma, I'm particularly interested in focusing on the transition from the first 8 chapters on Society and Information Technology to my remaining chapters on the Global University, and regarding WUaS in particular ... and regarding the initial questions I ask in this book ... and the style also of the first part of the book regarding the second part ...

This book first asks: 

  • What is information technology, broadly conceived?

  • How did it develop?

  • Who created it?

  • What is its history?

  • What has been its geography? 

  • What has been the process of diffusion into the economy and society?

  • How and why did the Network Society take shape?

M 8/11/25 WUaS News and Q&A recording took a long time to upload yesterday over my smartphone wifi hotspot to north Dartmouth on the mainland ... (and apparently the Cuttyhunk public library has free wifi, but when I went up there yesterday evening, the wifi signal was locked ... will go into the library after 2pm today and inquire about a password, which may make it possible to get wireless internet access after hours in the future)-

In their pre-settlement forested state, the Elizabeth Islands (including Penikese and Nashawena) were home to a variety of native tree species. While some species common on nearby islands are currently missing on Penikese, it's possible that, in the absence of further disturbance, it could return to a state forested with red cedar (Juniperus virginiana), as described in a presettlement account from 1602. 
Additional native tree species likely present in the historical forests of the Elizabeth Islands include:
  • Beech (Fagus grandifolia)
  • Oak (Quercus spp.)
  • Black Tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica)
  • Pitch Pine (Pinus rigida)
  • White Pine (Pinus strobus)
  • American Holly (Ilex opaca) 
It is important to note that many of these islands, particularly Penikese, have experienced significant changes in land use over time, including farming and grazing, which led to the loss of much of their original forest cover. Efforts are now being made to manage the vegetation on some islands, such as Penikese, to restore habitats for nesting birds.
