Place - the Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool - is a central theme - in my first book "Naked Harbin Ethnography ...'' informing a meditative culture (hippie to the clothing-optional hot springs) thanks to the de facto relaxation response (book first published in 1972, and now a Harvard Med Sch institute ... lower oxygen levels in the blood, than when not meditating may have been a key finding in this attempt to use science to study meditation further) ... thanks to the Harbin Hot Springs' warm pool ... with everyone entering a kind of serene meditative space in the HARBIN POOL AREA (in some ways) ... So place (the clothing-optional Harbin warm pool) informs culture (eg our neurophysiology), and in the case of Harbin Hot Springs, counterculture, in my ethnographic interpretation, with Harbin emerging in its current form in 1972 (after Harbinger University in the 1960s there, on property, a psychedelic university ... really really loosely and hippie-like ) ... and becoming Heart Consciousness Church (HCC) in 1975, a 501 c 3 (hippy tax dodge?), and New Age Church of Being in 1996 (which ordains ministers ...) ...
