Shahbaz, Rohit, and All, I haven't yet heard back from edX about your taking VERIFIED edX courses in the edX Online Campus this autumn, Shahbaz, but I am planning to teach my 'Society and Information Technology' class - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html (which face-to-face in video conferencing is better than learning from a web site, re WUaS) -  beginning in mid-October, and face-to-face in group video, and regarding WUaS distribution requirements for English majors, for ex. It will meet 8:30 pm India Standard Time (IST) on Tuesdays and Fridays (which is 8 am Pacific Time, in SF Bay Area) - probably in Google Meet. Shahbaz, Rohit, and All - please attend these online classes. All are welcome to participate in this course.

Cheers,

Scott

Your edX Online Campus Inquiry - and now developing a free-to-students' best STEAM CC-4 OCW-centric Bachelors' degree program in WUaS's 6 majors for January 2021

Hi Matthew and Carolina, All,

Thanks for our hour-long meeting, Matthew, just now, and looking forward to all three of us meeting on Wednesday at 11am PT, 2pm ET. Looking forward, in particular, to beginning to outline courses from edX - as part of the edX Online Campus - for our MIT OCW-centric World University and School matriculating undergraduate students beginning in January 2021 in these 6 majors, Carolina: 1) EECS, 2) General Science, 3) General Engineering, 4) English, 5) History, and 6) Business. These WUaS degrees would be 4 years long, first in English, and be studied by WUaS matriculating students, conceptually and initially, from Sri Lanka, India, Poland, Peru, Germany, Greece, Scotland, and the US, and maybe some of the other ~200 countries in the world.

This free-to-students' Bachelor's degree would involve, for example, a WUaS English literature student taking courses in her/his English major, as well as distribution requirements. As an example of distribution requirements, and which WUaS will seek to build upon, see these Reed College distribution requirements - https://www.reed.edu/registrar/pdfs/distribution-requirements-effective-fall-2019.pdf. (I graduated from Reed College in the first half of the 1980s). Regarding majoring in English at WUaS, WUaS will seek too to build from the English major requirements here - https://www.reed.edu/english/requirements.html. And how at edX are course credit units taking shape, and would this be licensable and accreditable by WUaS in the state of California's organizations? I have in mind the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (https://twitter.com/CaBPPE and https://www.bppe.ca.gov/ - for which I've attended a day long workshop in February 2019, but which is probably in transition regarding online degrees, but which said they'd license both Bachelor, and Ph.D. degrees), and, then concurrently, WASC senior - https://www.wscuc.org/ and https://twitter.com/wascsenior - (which accredits Stanford, UC Berkeley, the other UCs, and many more west coast and some international universities) and with which/whom I spoke with Dick Osborne, a VP there, for 1.25 hours in his office in Alameda/Oakland in 2013 or so. These two agencies work together for the first two years, and then there's, or was, a 3 stage WASC senior accreditation process, where WUaS has to graduate our first undergraduate class after 4 years to become fully accredited. Carolinia, how might we find possibly as many as 1200 edX courses, for full loads, for potentially 400 matriculating undergraduate students beginning in January for a 4 month term (January 1-April 20, 2021), taking edX courses that are 15-16 weeks long, or the equivalent in combining shorter edX courses (and something like MIT OCW in their length, and quality - so about the equivalent of 4 MIT OCW courses in the first term). While MIT OCW > MITx courses - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mitx-related-courseware/ - might be a good idea for our matriculating WUaS STEM students, there are very little to no English or history courses (and possibly only a few business courses), and these courses might also be too challenging initially for students studying in English as a second language, and also unfamiliar with American academic courses, on-the-ground or online. So, brainstorming-wise, Carolina (and Matthew), what questions might you have before our meeting on Wednesday? Thank you and looking forward to talking with you on Wednesday at 11am PT.

(And how might WUaS even do outreach to students around the world in collaboration with edX, if and as we develop approaches to partnering with edX Online Campus further). (WUaS seeks, too, to eventually hire 2.2 million people in all 200 countries and in all 7,117 languages, so these 6 majors would inform this too).

Thanks again for meeting, Matthew!

Best regards, Scott
