Mission of World University and School[edit]

Mission: World University & School's mission (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - like Wikipedia with best STEM-centric OpenCourseWare), in reaching out to the entire world, is to provide a free, wiki-based, education platform for knowledge generation, and, through facilitating the development of broadband worldwide, to make our service accessible to under served parts of the world. WUaS is planning to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. degrees in most large languages and nation states.
For the matriculating students in autumn 2016, WUaS seeks to develop a classes' approach (e.g. class of 2020) to online, best, STEM OCW-centric education (e.g. from MIT OCW audio and video - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/audio-video-courses - or Yale OYC - http://oyc.yale.edu/courses - courses (in G+ group video Hangouts to begin), and a first year's course of study, in English, taking about 4 courses per 4-month semester (vis-a-vis WUaS’s planned 36 best STEM-centric courses over 4 years for a free C.C. undergraduate degree) might look like this:
Semester 1:

Siskiyou Mountains salamander: Systems Thinking, and new "Management Information Systems" wiki Subject page with MIT OCW / Yale OYC, ISSIP presentation

Dear Gerald,

Thanks for an edifying overview ISSIP presentation this morning about systems' thinking. Per your talk, I found a West Churchman text at the top of this MIT OCW reading list in a course entitled "Frameworks and Models in Engineering Systems / Engineering System Design" here -
http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/engineering-systems-division/esd-04j-frameworks-and-models-in-engineering-systems-engineering-system-design-spring-2007/readings/ - and will look too to add it to World University and School, the startup online best STEM OpenCourseWare-centric (e.g. CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC) wiki university (planned for degrees for large languages and most countries).

In searching MIT OCW - http://ocw.mit.edu/ - for "systems thinking," I found these many MIT OCW courses, some of which are in its Engineering Systems Division and others in the Sloan School of Business MIT OCW - http://search.mit.edu/search?site=ocw&client=mit&getfields=*&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=http%3A%2F%2Focw.mit.edu%2Fsearch%2Fgoogle-ocw.xsl&requiredfields=WT%252Ecg_s%3ACourse+Home%7CWT%252Ecg_s%3AResource+Home§ionlimit=WT%252Ecg_s%3ACourse+Home%7CWT%252Ecg_s%3AResource+Home&as_dt=i&oe=utf-8&departmentName=web&filter=0&courseName=&q=systems+thinking&btnG.x=0&btnG.y=0 - (hope this comes through for you).

And in planning further for World University and School and thinking in terms of systems' thinking, per my question, it's the directionality of the planned CC (free) online degrees that I think is important vis-a-vis your response.

To give you an idea of how WUaS works, I just created a new "Management Information Systems" wiki Subject page -
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Management_Information_Systems (accessible from here - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects ) - and added your 2014 video -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYyTUs9ipmc - to this new WUaS page. I also added links to and from this page to these related WUaS wiki Subject pages - Business Management - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Business_Management - and - "Engineering Systems Division "
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Engineering_Systems_Division - with their many MIT OCW and Yale OYC courses, some eventually for credit for online degrees.

Thank you again for your talk, and I welcome further your thoughts about how planning ideas might emerge from systems' thinking and might inform the development of wiki CC World University and School, for example, as we move from our current ~700 WUaS Wikia wiki pages into our new wiki, WUaS in MediaWiki -
http://worlduniversityandschool.org/mediawiki-1.24.1/index.php?title=Main_Page

Thank you again, Gerald, and looking forward to being in touch.

Friendly regards,
Scott

Machair: Old Fettesian Newsletter 2015 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Attached a photo, Please add the names of students who might be interested in "FREE and CC best STEM OCW-centric" online degrees to the new Sign Up Form here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org, Replies from my former Housemaster and Keeper of the Old Fettesian Register +, "Thank you for your news update, which will definitely be featured in this year’s OF Newsletter, both in the OFs in Finance and OF News sections"

Dear Mrs. Beaumont,
Fettes College,
http://www.fettes.com,
Edinburgh, Scotland

Greetings to Mr. Preston who was my Housemaster in Kimmerghame House in 1976-1977, and who I think is still the Keeper of the Old Fettesian Records. I'm writing with "copy" for the OF Newsletter 2015 prior to the April 2nd deadline per your email of February 10. I hope to combine my OF News in combination with a little news about OFs in Finance. I've attached a photo.

Fellow Fettesians: Greetings from The SF Bay Area! I'm the Founder and President of startup wiki C.C. World University and School, which is growing and seeking our first student applicants this autumn 2015 for Creative Commons' licensed (so free) online undergraduate degrees to matriculate online in autumn 2016 with planned graduation in 2020. Please add the names of your secondary school students / Fettes students who might be interested in "free and CC best STEM OCW-centric" online degrees to the new Sign Up Form here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org. WUaS is like C.C. Wikipedia (now in 288 languages) with best STEM-centric OpenCourseWare (e.g. C.C. MIT OCW now in 7 languages, and C.C. Yale OYC). WUaS is accrediting first in the state of California with plans to offer Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, and M.D. university degrees first in English.

For those OFs in Finance, WUaS is planning an undergraduate Business Major (based on C.C. MIT OCW's Sloan School of Management courses) to begin. WUaS began in 2008 conversationally in an open online course I've taught for many semesters on Harvard's virtual island now called "The Network Society, Information Technology and the Global University" in which you're welcome to participate, and which I'll teach again this autumn 2015. WUaS hopes to become a significant employer worldwide in many languages and countries, and become the MIT / Harvard / Oxbridge of the Internet.

It's nice to have been in touch recently with OF Andrew Lownie G'78?, who is a Publisher in London, as well.

All the best,
Gordon MacLeod K'77
(which was the name I went by in my year in 1st year 6th form, although I go by Scott MacLeod in general).

Thank you, Mrs. Beaumont.

Hi Gordon/Scott

Glad to know all thrives in the Bay - long time since we visited Alcatraz!

Am retiring from Register in October (60 years since my former Housemaster, TRGS, lumber me, as new boy on staff) with the job! Managed to get Rob Watt to edit the Centenary one).

Here spring has at last sprung and pupils scattered for Easter Hols. so Fettes at its best!

Dear Scott,

Thank you for your news update, which will definitely be featured in this year’s OF Newsletter, both in the OFs in Finance and OF News sections.

Mr Preston comes in to the College weekly helping out in the Archives Dept and, yes, he is still Keeper of the Register with regard to OF records. It will be a pleasure to pass on your greetings.

Glad to learn you have met up with Andrew Lownie (Mo 1974-79) – there are not many places in the world where there isn’t an OF.

With best wishes from a sunny Edinburgh (it’s the Easter holidays at the College, so the corridors are a little quiet at the moment),

Dawn

Dear Mr. Preston (and Dawn and Andrew),
Thanks very much for your emails. I haven't yet visited Alcatraz, believe it or not, and have heard it's moving and interesting. Please come visit The Bay Area so that we might all go there together.

And it's very good news that my OF News about WUaS in particular - see ...

will get published in the Old Fettesians' Newsletter, in both sections, soon.

Please send university students WUaS's way - we'd love to have high achieving Fettes prospective undergraduate students, for example, for free and MIT (OCW ... although we say "best STEM OCW-centric") degrees. They can add their emails to the form here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - if they're interested in applying this autumn 2015 and matriculating online in 2016 and graduating probably in 2020, with many more university and professional degrees planned. Adding Fettes' students and other Scottish high school students' names to the form would/could be a very good idea indeed.
Hope to see you in the Bay Area ... and, who knows, perhaps in Scotland this autumn as well.

Thank you.

Happy Easter,
Scott / Gordon

Dwarf lake iris: WUaS's Business Plan, In the Care of Quaker SFFM?, New Resource Bank?, Planned revenue streams: a) An online bookstore / computer store for text- and course books, b) fundraising from individuals, foundations ... c) collaboration financially with governments in all 242+ countries in main languages in them, for free (since CC) and best STEM OCW-centric university degrees, d) an Academic Press and journals for many of all 7,932+ languages, WUaS's gold label Guidestar listing, The dollar value of a WUaS education compared with a MIT or Stanford education at $40,000 per year for tuition alone, Might CC WUaS, CC MIT OCW, CC Yale OYC and edX all collaborate together?, Two possible revenue streams that Guidestar actually removed - will attempt to re-add them

Dear A,

It was very nice to talk with you today after Meeting at San Francisco Friends' Meeting. It was great too to see the Meeting's newly renovated and very nice Rausch Street property. I also made a food delivery to the poor at Mercy Housing SF on Mission after this, I'm glad to say, - as part of the SFFM food pantry project.

Per our conversation, I'm sending you World University and School's business plan which I've attached, and here is a link to it also - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jKN6wGRNHXWZkEZpGHSx71CGSHoA5r0qmFoakMklAY0/edit?usp=sharing. I'm including L.V. in this email, since he's both WUaS's CFO as well as Treasurer presently.

What please is the best way to meet and talk with the Meeting's bank, New Resource Bank, as well as to follow up with you about our conversation, and realize a loan or even grants / donations to 501 (c) (3) WUaS?

Thank you! Very nice to talk with you today. Friendly-informed wiki World University and School will help so many people with highest quality online education.

All the best,
Scott

Hi A,

As a followup, I wonder if WUaS might come under the care of SFFM, and in a sense become its asset (just a little online multi-lingual university), somewhat like SFFM's Food Pantry, serving meals to the homeless and poor, or even the Rausch Street Property and then explore the possibility of borrowing like the Rausch Street property did, toward the following revenue streams:

1 - an online bookstore / computer store for text- and course books, and learning resources, planned for all 7,932+ languages;

2 - fundraising from individuals, foundations, companies and governments plus, both in the U.S. and internationally;

3 - collaboration financially with governments in all 242+ countries in main languages in them, for free (since CC) and best STEM OCW-centric, such as CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC University (Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, M.D., and I.B.), and high school, degrees - e.g. get on governments' "education budget lines."

4 - an Academic Press - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Academic_Press_at_World_University_and_School- as well as academic journals planned for many of all 7,932+ languages.

re-added to Guidestar:

5 - broadband worldwide for the developing world especially, for CC free degrees and online highest quality schools, and universal education.

6 - peripheral-to-degrees'  and peripheral-to-WUaS-wiki-subject-pages' lessons (e.g. music lessons, tutoring in a very wide variety of subjects and ways, etc.) in all 9000 languages and 242 countries.

These above are the 4 main areas of revenue which WUaS is planning, also in the strategy section of WUaS's gold label Guidestar listing, with much other WUaS financial information:

Friendly regards,
Scott

Hi A,

In terms of target students, I hope Quaker high school students, for one, will benefit around the world with CC free best STEM--centric education (e.g. CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and Yale OYC) and degrees at Friendly-informed CC WUaS.

And in terms of the dollar value of a WUaS education, compared with a MIT or Stanford education at $40,000 a year for tuition alone, WUaS will be a far reaching opportunity.

And edX is a good open platform information technologically for course's for comparison's sake. Might CC WUaS, CC MIT OCW, CC Yale OYC and edX all collaborate?

Friendly greetings,
Scott

*

Dear WUaS Board and friends,

The two possible revenue streams for future planning that Guidestar actually removed, in addition to the 4 above which are still posted at Guidestar, are

A) peripheral-to-degrees' lessons (e.g. music lessons, tutoring in a wide variety of ways, etc.) and

B) broadband worldwide for the developing world especially, for CC free degrees and online highest quality schools.

I'll attempt to re-add them.

Sincerely,
Scott
