Hi M,

Just shared this with the non-theist Friends' Planning Group email list, which you might enjoy. It's about the 9th email in a thread entitled "[NTF-planning] FGC Gathering 2019" so you won't have the previous threads in mind when reading this :) -

thanks John and David, & NtF planners, so much for your focus on a 'theological' diversity spectrum among NtFs, FGCers, and in the unprogrammed tradition of the Q-RSOF as well. Am a bit of a non-theological non-theist friendly Friendly NtF (having written my Reed College thesis on liberation theologian Rosemary Ruether's "Sexism and God-Talk" - she's also a California feminist theologian, and living in southern California still I think) ... so a kind of Reed religion thesis (1985), which of the four tracks in this Religion major at the time  - history, philosophy, social science and theology, - was technically a thesis in feminist 'theology'   (... so the major was actual in "Religion" and re Reed's "critical thinking" approach was in some ways was about religion social scientifically).

Instead, and per my "Hippy-anjali Yoga Notations" - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html - am an appreciator f/Friendly-wise re non-theism of its SPICEY simplicity (in addition to being a bit or a kilted Yogi, I'm also a Taoist American appreciator of Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu:).

Seeking to improve too on the academics of Huston Smith's "Religions of Man" (1958) ... with its 7 world religions ... African religions were elided, plus it's problematic in quite a few other ways ... and I think the field of world religion could be construed re the Internet in very new and rigorously excellent ways, by various academics (including NtFs, in our ongoing innovations in the RSOF:).

I'm also a bit in the Dawkins' camp in all these matters too - https://twitter.com/RichardDawkins ... re sound thinking, with a Kenyan / African / Anglo / English / Berkeley twist.

A lot of Quaker-Muslims have come to study in the US thanks to the Ramallah Friends' School, which is IB and taught partly in Arabic too ... & re the AFSC's Joyce Ajlouny ...  and some may come to FGC ... how might we invite them to the FGC NtF sessions, I wonder? Your focus on theological diversity may be a very sound approach.

Just adding my further my 2-cents, and a vote for your Friendly sharing.

Friendly diversity-thanks again, and cheers,
Scott

Hi Barbara,

As a followup,

Here are some Northumbrian piper Kathryn Tickell creations I enjoy - as further inspiration (and re my email below just now to Patti which you might enjoy):

Hi Patti,

Very nice to see you again yesterday evening. I enjoy your playing a lot, and the receptive Open Band energy you generate. (I also enjoyed Barbara's playing the strathspey on the piano, when you went up to dance - nice to see you dancing too). And what good news - is the email below what you were referring to in these regards?

After you return from Hawaii, I think I'd like to explore taking weekly hour-long fall and spring piano lessons (with Scottish small pipes under-arm) with you, - focusing on two handed Scottish country dancing piano, and blues' piano as well - by sitting beside you on the piano bench, and growing via setting further goals per http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm (and very possibly exploring the related - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingLovingBlissvavMusicalInstrument.htm) - socially. And singing harmony a bit perhaps too - re learning and doing (MuseScore software won't be far away either re composing). It's kind of the free-ing conversation and interaction which I hope we'll generate - that would liberate me from my current musical habits that I'm looking forward to.

It could be fun too to eventually explore a kind of vision-realization with regard to Scottish Country Dancing music-making and Open Band (I have the music of Kathryn Tickell and Steeleye Span and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and the Grateful Dead in mind in terms of kinds of unique realized beautiful visions, in these regards - as inspirations:). Kathryn Tickell with her Northumbrian small pipes sings from a landscape and from the Northumbrian life (a way of life, its people, its villages and towns) she knows ... almost like poetry, but via story-telling as well ... how to sing Scottish country dance music from the landscape of SF Bay Area inner life - from 1960 forward? ... could get interesting ... and potentially hopefully beautiful :) ... since many of the tunes we play on Monday are beautiful ...

Am continuing to seek a partner with whom to begin a family. Need more wife savvy. Tempus fugit  - time flies.

Warm regards, Scott

If we do a 60 minute lesson together, sitting next to each other on the piano bench, would be interested in 50 minutes of musical conversation / communication with music itself, and possibly 10 minutes with words / language :)

Dromedary: * * * A) Could BPPE / WASC senior - with World University and School - become an online international accreditation model, comparable with the International Baccalaureate high school diploma?, * * * B) Giving a UC Berkeley TSWG talk this autumn on Friday, October 26th - "Harbin & Avatar Bots: Robotics & Tourism" is the working title, * * * C) Re the WUaS course you're now taking toward your undergraduate degree: Technology-based Business Transformation - WUaS and edX via CC-4 MIT OCW into MITx - in ~200 countries' languages?, * * * D) Dear Professor Hennessy, Thank you again for your excellent and marvelous Computer History Museum interview with Marissa Mayer - and very nice to see you in the morning at the Stanford Law event as well

A)
Could BPPE / WASC senior - with World University and School - become an online international accreditation model, comparable with the International Baccalaureate high school diploma?

*

Hi Michaela, Dagmar and GABA,

Like I.B. high schools in many countries' official languages and re, -

"We just returned from 2 years in Germany and our son finished his high school years there. But we sent him to an IB school that is internationally accredited"

- are you considering any universities that are internationally accredited? Are any universities internationally accredited like international baccalaureate high schools?

Where would Stanford or MIT or Oxbridge or LMU in Munich, for example, fit into this concept of universities that are internationally accredited? (I ask with free-to-students' online CC-4 MIT OCW-centric in its 5 languages World University and School in mind).

... for when your daughter gets to applying to Colleges, for example ( https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School )?

WUaS would eventually create too an online German IB Gymnasium / high school in German (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme), and where students could matriculate from this to German Universities (and in all ~200 countries' official / main languages - and which are CC-4 MIT OCW high school-centric).

Presently, WUaS is seeking to matriculate our 2nd undergraduate class to accrediting with BPPE and WASC senior (like Stanford and UC Berkeley and the UCs) in the autumn of 2019.

*
Again, could BPPE / WASC senior - with World University and School - become an online international accreditation model, comparable with the International Baccalaureate degree - each of all ~200 countries?

* * *
B)

Hi Jing, Nelson, Jaume, Dean and All,

Great, and thanks for your email confirming my giving a UC Berkeley TSWG talk this autumn on Friday, October 26th (since the 12th wouldn't work due to World University and School's open Annual Meeting (since 2010!) on Saturday, October 13th at 9 am PT).

"Harbin & Avatar Bots: Robotics & Tourism"  is the working title of my talk. I'll email you with everything else needed in the next few days - http://tourismstudies.org/People.htm#SM . Will update the ongoing calendar of my actual-virtual Harbin hot springs' project talks here - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - as well. This will be the fourth-fifth Harbin talk in the Gifford Room since 2012 - all of which are here - http://bit.ly/HarbinBook .

Visit the Harbin gate in Google Street View here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ where you can "walk" down the road '4 miles' to Middletown and 'amble' around the streets there, if inclined).

Thank you,
Scott

Scott G.K. MacLeod is an American academic and Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology at World University and School - http:// worlduniversityandschool.org. He's taught "Network Society, Information Technology and the Global University" on Harvard University's virtual island, and on Penn State Isle in Second Life as a Penn State University instructor. He's taught both anthropology and sociology in real life at Chatham University, the University of Pittsburgh, and at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received a Master's Degree in anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Diploma of Research from the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on the information technology network society age, the world wide web cosmos, the virtual, and actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs, seeking to facilitate the development of a realistic virtual earth for STEM research, and as classrooms (Think Google Street View with time slider +). He is World University and School's founder, president and CEO. WUaS forked successfully in 2017 into a second legal entity, the WUaS Press / Corp, planned with machine translation in all 7,097 living languages. Wiki World University and School is CC-4 MIT OCW-centric (in 5 languages) and CC Yale OYC-centric and seeks to develop major universities in all ~200 countries' main and official languages, as well as wiki schools in all 7,097 living languages too; WUaS plans to offer online CC OCW Bachelor, Ph.D., law, M.D. as well as I.B. high school degrees, partly in group video.

Hi Tanya,

Brainstorming-wise, here's a possible project that comes to mind with your course, and upcoming project re "The critical role of technology-based, disruptive innovations to a business":

Since you're familiar with the online education industry re WUaS, please consider asking some of these questions - http://www.tanyatomato.com/2018/09/project.html - for your project re WUaS. One possible practical approach might have to do with an already existing relatively robust platform such as edX - and particularly with regard to their use of CC-4 MIT OCW into MITx - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mitx-related-courseware/ - and further how a collaboration between MITx and WUaS might occur around the CC-4 MIT OCW, making this available to students in countries around the world first in English, and also in seeking reimbursement from Ministries of Education per student per year for A) undergraduate Bachelor's degrees (about 40 courses over 4 years), and B) Ph.D. over 6-7 years in all ~200 countries. What further courses would be helpful for students in MITx for WUaS's six majors - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - etc? WUaS and edX via CC-4 MIT OCW into MITx - in ~200 countries' languages?

A realistic virtual earth as classrooms and STEM field site (think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth) could be a further element to this. How to turn this both WUaS and a realistic virtual earth as disruptive technologies into strategies?

You may well have other projects in mind, but this is an interesting relevant one that could lead to further career steps at WUaS, for example.

Cheers, Scott

Dear Professor Hennessy,

Thank you again for your excellent and marvelous Computer History Museum interview with Marissa on Thursday, about which I blogged here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/09/san-francisco-forktail-ischnura-gemina.html - and very nice to see you in the morning at the Stanford Law SVDX event as well.

Very nice to have met you in person first at Steve Denning's "Stanford's What Matters to Me and Why" talk not too long ago as well. And thank you too for considering coming on the World University and School Board, and incubating WUaS as well, when I invited you to do so about 2 years ago, while you were still President of Stanford.

I'm writing to inquire about a possible position at Stanford. I've been in communication with Mark Nelson at the Stanford Peace Innovation Institute about this - and a possible Peace Data Standard / Tokens /  Credits and with regard to SPII. Having attended a meeting with regard to this, and re this agenda doc - with the SPII in August, and in further planning to meet with them again on September 25th, which agenda includes my seeking a position at Stanford to facilitate hiring Stanford graduate students to help develop much of this, for example, I'm now exploring the possibility of developing a joint academic teaching position A) in the Stanford GSE - and also with regard to developing online CC-4 MIT OCW-centric (in its 5 languages) World University and School with teachers trained at Stanford - and B) potentially with a joint appointment in the Stanford Anthropology department re, for ex. - https://ed.stanford.edu/faculty-research-interests/Anthropology%20and%20Education - since my recent actual-virtual ethnographic book explores questions of how to create a realistic virtual earth (think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth, with avatar bots + the Alphabet / Google ecosystem+) as classrooms and STEM field sites.

Having applied for a MIT Media Lab faculty position last December 2017, I'm emailing you those documents for your perusal.

Stanford would benefit from some fraction of the $46,320 per year per student it costs for tuition to go to Stanford/Harvard/MIT/, reimbursed  to WUaS by countries around the world - due to the CC-4 MIT OCW licensing. World University seeks to become the Harvard / MIT / Stanford / Oxbridge of the Internet and by accrediting in all ~200 countries' main languages for free-to-students' Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. high school degrees. And Alphabet would benefit from the WUaS Press / Corp's planned for-profit, general stock revenue streams - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - in all ~200 countries' official languages, and indeed in all 7,097 living languages.

How best to communicate about this further?

Thank you very much, and looking forward to hearing you speak again soon.

Sincerely,
Scott MacLeod

Hi Steven, and Roland (and Angela),

Nice to meet and talk with you at Stanford Law CodeX yesterday and thanks for your presentation, Steven. I also blogged before your presentation about it here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/09/sequoia-sempervirens-reaching-out-to.html - with some further ideas about where World University and School is heading, and even re ~200 online law schools in countries' official languages. Steven Stewart was the actual presenter on Thursday at Stanford Law CodeX, and a computer scientist based in Canada:

CodeX: The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics
129 videos 9,681 views Updated 4 days ago
CodeX is a multidisciplinary laboratory operated by Stanford University in association with affiliated organizations from industry, government, and academia. The staff of the Center includes a core of full-time employees, together with faculty and students from Stanford and professionals from affiliated organizations. The primary mission of the Center is to explore ways in which information technology can be used to enhance the quality and efficiency of our legal system while decreasing its cost. Our goal is "legal technology" that empowers all parties in our legal system, not the legal profession per se. Such technology should help affected individuals find, understand, and comply with regulations; it should help enforcement organizations monitor and/or enforce compliance; and it should help regulatory bodies analyze proposed regulations for cost, overlap, inconsistency, etc.

Mention of Etherium by MIT Director of its Digital Currency Initiative Neha Narula is here -
https://www.preposterousuniverse.com/podcast/2018/09/10/episode-13-neha-narula-on-blockchain-cryptocurrency-and-the-future-of-the-internet/ - with brief mention of smart contracts as well. This is a fascinating interview partly because of Neha's understanding of these technologies, and her focus on the poor, and on voting, plus much more.

Here are some recent Tweets about this, with related WUaS links (to give you a bit of an idea of how wiki WUaS works) ...

WUaS is also exploring the idea of facilitating an Universal Basic Income when we code our upcoming wiki re our "front end" Mediawiki, together with our backend "Wikidata"  for all 7097 living languages and then for all 7.5 billion people, as a cryptocurrency with blockchain ledger - possibly with the backing of ~200 countries' central banks (but possibly not, after listening to Neha) ... but staying in communication with MIT's thinking in these regards (Neha and Joi Ito for too). While this would help an enormous number of people, it's also an entrepreneurial opportunity.

WUaS seeks to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, Medical Degrees, as well as I.B. high school diplomas in all ~200 countries' official languages, but while we're CC-4 MIT  OCW-centric for Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees first in English based on its ~2400 courses, MIT doesn't have a law school or medical school, so hopefully WUaS will emerge out of Stanford for law and medical OCW, again in all ~200 countries' official languages, with lots of smart contract potential, for example.

WUaS seeks to become the MIT / Harvard / Stanford / Oxbridge of the internet, and again in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, for free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric online university and high school degrees.

WUaS may also seek to develop Canada World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Canada -  early on.

Looking forward to staying in touch.

Friendly regards, Scott

Hi Angela and Roland, ... and Steven ... (Wael's email bounced back for me),

Thanks and interesting. Angela, your email's mention of "brain" made me wonder how Neha Narula's mention - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/09/sequoia-sempervirens-cones-stanford-law.html - of Etherium as some sort of computer brain with its smart contracts (in contrast to Bitcoin in Neha's talk) might be germane or helpful here, so I'm adding Steven Stewart, who talked on Thursday, 9/20 at Stanford Law CodeX about Etherium and smart contracts, to this email conversation.

Re Natural Language Processing (NLP) resources, I just searched on and tweeted this morning about "text and Google Street View" - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1043885686565130240 - and your mention of "location" makes me think this and the Google ecosystem might be very helpful and important, since much translation will be based / indexed on text - in a realistic virtual earth too (think Google Street View / Maps / Earth with Translation and TensorFlow etc ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook  ~) ... all for 'place' or 'location' and 'language'. Text with Wikidata / Wikibase / their Lexographical project's labels (think Wikipedia / Wikimedia in ~300 languages) may be something that the Google ecosystem - and many NLP systems - draw on for (parts and sounds of words') data as well.

Algorithms in Google ecosystem could help identify 'parties' and 'fundamental rights' efficiently ... since this ecosystem is robust as a whole, and with TensorFlow esp.

Also John Hennessy is now chair of Alphabet / Google (in blog entry above - it's worth listening to his interview in my blog post above for other reasons) and could be helpful re Google ecosystem and Stanford Law CodeX ... with regard to NLP etc., - and I'm a bit in communication with him, if questions emerge.

I wonder further how a Stanford Law student from Colombia who might be interested in becoming a law faculty member in Colombia in Spanish and other key languages there might be interested in developing a CC-4 OpenCourseWare course about all of the above and Tutelas, since they're low hanging fruit with regard to justice and machine learning in Colombia.

For creating Law open course ware thinking purposes - and academic career faculty positions - (think CC-4 MIT OCW in 5 languages, but where MIT doesn't have a law school or a med school), here are Philippines WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Philippines - and Canada WUaS -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Canada (and Canada has two official languages) - since Colombia and Iraq WUaS aren't yet begun, in terms of nation states' law systems (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States). And re some of these countries' official / main languages, here are the Spanish and Arabic language wiki subjects where people can add open course ware and other resources too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Spanish_language and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Arabic_language and where both are planned in Spanish and Arabic as well - accessible from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages. WUaS's "front end" eg with these too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - is not yet connected with our "back end" of Wikidata/Wikibase (in its ~300 languages), but WUaS is planning this.

So re the Colombia Law System and AI, please keep in mind courses for this, as well as publications in Spanish about this (re WUaS's two wings - A ) World University and School and the B) WUaS Press - planned with machine translation).

Cheers, Scott
