Am not teaching "Society, Information Technology and the Global University" - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - this autumn, but will do so probably in spring or autumn of 2020.


Glad that 501 c 3 World University and School is now listed in Google for Nonprofits which is a ginormous step - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/08/drakaea-orchids-world-university-school.html - and that we became a parallel for-profit legal entity, the WUaS Corporation in 2017 ... which together is a very unique and great opportunity.

And I hope this step into the Google ecosystem is the beginning of building out World University and School further in that Google platform - whereby my course would be listed too there. Hope too to teach a course on Harbin Hot Springs and ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy soon too - and potentially in this new developing Google-centric platform as well.

Getting listed on Google and in Google for NonProfits is momentous - and may or should even lead to monies (which is the point of Google for NonProfits theoretically).

Nicely cool today - mid 70s - where the Fahrenheit 80s, upper 80s and 90s are meltingly hot here on this Canyon-ridge - and unbearable. When I went to Gray Whale Cove state beach yesterday because of the heat here in Canyon, I got another glimpse of the ever so diverse social life in California walking down the steps to beach, on the beach and in the parking lot ... there isn't a vision in the people I saw of a 'comfortable' life ahead, albeit California is rich as a state, and something like - if compared with nation states - CA would be the 7th richest nation state in the world!

 ... with some of these people living at the margins. Me-thinks this is emblematic of aspects of West coast & California / Oregon 'society' ... not sure how much and what kinds of opportunities or cultural vision there are in California, which is quite a melting pot.

I'd like to create online the extraordinary opportunities that a Stanford creates - - -  at World University & School - for both matriculated students and wiki-Universitians (teachers & learners). How to add the best of Stanford's open culture - its learning, talks, thinkers, professors & culture to inform WUaS with parallels to best STEM CC-4 MIT OCW?

Could make sense to check out & explore the Sierra mountains and other mountain ranges in California / Oregon - hot springs too - a fair amount this late summer and autumn ... may do so on my trip to Portland OR for the 14 Sept weekend.

Just connected further with Bruce Maxwell (who went to Haverford and is an architect and kind of an old hippy & Quaker too) and Jane Maxwell (I don't know if they're related or not) both of whom I know through Scottish circles here about Scottish small piping and a bicycling trip Jane took to Scotland this spring where she passed by the Maxwell castle there. And I also mentioned how I'm seeking a partner / wife / mom-to-be ... am getting the word out there. :) Bruce had mentioned a small piping focused group at one Allan Keith's house around Sebastopol (1.5 hours a way) on first Sundays - which is invitation only. Who knows but that I might meet someone at something like this?

Looking forward to the Forum for Advancing Reed - https://www.reed.edu/advancing-reed/ - in September. 

And great to share a table with you at Reed Reunions this past June, Keith and Govind. Konrad and Govind, I'd like to introduce you to one another: Govind is on the World University and School Board, if you don't know each other. And Konrad (https://iris.reed.edu/directory/alum/111574) is a Trustee at Reed, on the left in the picture below. Govind (https://iris.reed.edu/directory/alum/124722), will you be there at Reed's FAR? Keith?  

Re FAR, I'm exploring in writing here how World University and School might be of benefit to Reed - and potentially re careers for Remedies.

First, World University and School would like to explore offering a required - and inspired - Hum 110 course online which we might call Hum 101, and also for developing the conference method online (in group video to begin) at World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning - and eventually in 200 countries' official languages. So WUaS would seek to hire, for example, Reedies who have gone on to graduate school to be graduate student instructors to teach Hum 101 online as WUaS develops.  



Second, WUaS would like to offer graduate school opportunities to Reedies - and for online Ph.D. degrees, as well as online MD and Law degrees, and eventually in ~200 nation states' languages, online. WUaS is in the process of licensing for Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees with the state of CA's BPPE presently. 

Third, WUaS would like to hire faculty and staff eventually from among Reedies. 


Fourth, WUaS also in 2017 became a second parallel legal entity - the WUaS Corporation - which is a for-profit general stock company. And WUaS would like to explore collaborating with FAR in developing this both online and on-the-ground with time. Reed could advance far with this wing, especially - and re collaboration! 



Fifth, coding opportunities at World University and School are enormous for Reedies! (WUaS is quite Google-centric, as well as Wikidata-centric).

In addition to World Univ & Sch seeking the initial ~$5,000 to begin licensing with the state of California's Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), WUaS is sekeing concurrently the initial ~ $12,000 + monies to begin the accreditation process, and then initial monies to begin to hire student interns such as Reedies, to develop WUaS, as well as financial commitments of monies for licensing, accreditation and hiring in 2020 and beyond.

So, am curious about ways to advance Reed by collaboration with World Univ & Sch. There's remarkable FAR growth potential here esp.

Am liking all the flowers and images of natural things I find in Wikipedia which I post in my blog daily - they're pretty. It's going to be a hot day here this afternoon. National Parks are free today too since it's their 103rd anniversary, so I may head to Muir Woods NP (where we walked a few years ago) and the San_Francisco_Maritime_National_Historical_Park
(which museum I've never been in, although I've been on its Balclutha ship which was made in Scotland in 1886) at the far end of Fisherman's wharf - also a NP.

Pink flowering currant
not in bloom,
in Huckleberry Botanic
Regional Preserve,
east of Berkeley,
I hike on
a hallowed tunnel-green
trail way,
nicely level,
in the amazing light
of afternoon.
