The momentous WUaS migration journey to Wikibase.cloud (in Wikimedia's 300 languages, I think) is complete, and WUaS just received this email on Monday June 13, 2022 -

We have finished our work here for this trip, and I want to share a few things with you.Regarding the electricity project, Bill has been working for five days and accomplished a lot. Both the solar inverter power supply boards have been upgraded and are working as expected. The same battery that gave us problems last time is still giving us problems even after a complete rebuild. Bill has contacted the manufacturer and they have agreed to replace it. Bill has set things up so hopefully Godfrey, on staff at the hospital and our local friend, who has been working with us from the beginning will be able to hook up the new battery when it arrives. The replacement solar panel we found in Kampala was integrated into the existing array allowing for three additional panels in total to provide electricity to the Lab, Emergency Department and Ultrasound. Finally, we had shipped 50 LED lighting fixtures back in 2019. So, we have been replacing light fixtures around the hospital. At the request of the hospital administrator we ran a 150 meter circuit, the length of the hospital, with about 15 fixtures to provide security lighting at night. All of this has been done thanks to the donations made beginning back in 2019 when we first started Savanda. Thank you!More thanks for the response to my request for antenatal care sponsorships. We are leaving the hospital with 25 new sponsorships. Over the next few months they will be finding poor mothers for sponsorship and due to your generosity these mothers will receive all the WHO recommended antenatal care and delivery services including an ultrasound, malaria prevention and even a transportation subsidy to encourage the ladies to attend their visits. At our closing meeting this evening, Sr. Flora who directs the ANC Sponsorship program at the hospital specifically wanted to thank all our donors. She said, "We appreciate everything you have done. We asked for electricity, you came and gave us light. We asked for water, you gave a water well. And now you are helping us with the poor mothers. I wasn't sure if the sponsorship program was going to work and I don't know what motivates your donors but we are very grateful. Please thank all who are helping us."Lastly I would like to mention two things that are not directly related to our programs, but kind of demonstrate the importance of what we are trying to do here in Ibanda. First, there is an orphanage on the hospital campus. Though they take children for other reasons, maternal deaths during childbirth are a steady contributor to their population. We hope antenatal education and delivery at the hospital provided by our sponsors will decrease this. Second, while we were here a group of gynecologic surgeons, two were religious sisters, did surgeries to repair complications from birth trauma. Mostly they do fistula repairs and one of their patients had been suffering with a recto-vaginal fistula for over 25 years! One reason Ibanda is an attractive place for this surgical mission now is that they have reliable electricity and water. In fact while they were operating the grid power was out for an entire day. The surgeons didn't notice until I told them that evening at dinner. But also, by providing antenatal care and delivery at the hospital through the sponsorship program, hopefully we will be decreasing the incidence of these kinds of birth related injuries in the first place!Please pray for us as we start the 30+ hour journey back home tomorrow morning. Once again thank you, it is really hard to describe the effects your donations are having here on the ground in Uganda, but trust me it is pretty amazing and I just wish you could all come here and witness it.

the Toyota Proace Autonomous Vehicle Electric Camping Van (the largest of 3 sizes) - probably with all-wheel-drive too for even visiting Hot Springs in winter (like Buckeye hot springs with a good dirt road in winter with some snow cover too) ... Regarding seeking to hire 2.3 million people over the next few years, and re Walmart too, and the sheer number of customers they bring in ... How to possibly target this group of people - with a lost cost, and great value, teaching and learning robotics' university focus too ... since in the US all of these people's kids go to school and while possibly poor they seem to have some resources (I saw a woman, possibly 'poor', leaving Walmart yesterday quite happy with a $20 Mr Coffee Maker in her arms).
