A Living Centre of Excellence in Western Uganda


We are exploring the creation of a Living Centre of Excellence in Western Uganda with a partner institution that brings 48 years of experience working with students, young adults and communities. Its existing ecosystem includes vocational, primary and secondary education, science training, healthcare and around 350 hectares of forest, including a protected chimpanzee sanctuary.


This provides something rare: a living landscape in which education, conservation, enterprise and community can come together. The forest, rangers and sanctuary become places to learn through experience - asking simple but powerful questions: What do we have? What are we protecting? What are we growing? What could this become? What is my contribution?


At its heart, the Centre will help young people develop the confidence, capability and future literacy to understand who they are, where they belong, what they can contribute and how they can shape the future. Through Territory Mapping, the 10 Foundations and 7 Community Capabilities, academic and vocational learning can be connected to the skills and attitudes needed to remain relevant in a changing world.


We see this as more than a programme or a training centre. It is an opportunity to create a living ecosystem for community capability, experimentation and discovery, and to demonstrate what becomes possible when people recognise the value of their territory, their contribution and their collective future. 


What is discovered in Western Uganda can then be shared with educators, communities and governments across Uganda and beyond.

A Living Centre of Excellence in Western Uganda



We are exploring the creation of a Living Centre of Excellence in Western Uganda with a partner institution that brings 48 years of experience working with students, young adults and communities. Its existing ecosystem includes vocational, primary and secondary education, science training, healthcare and around 350 hectares of forest, including a protected chimpanzee sanctuary.



This provides something rare: a living landscape in which education, conservation, enterprise and community can come together. The forest, rangers and sanctuary become places to learn through experience - asking simple but powerful questions: What do we have? What are we protecting? What are we growing? What could this become? What is my contribution?



At its heart, the Centre will help young people develop the confidence, capability and future literacy to understand who they are, where they belong, what they can contribute and how they can shape the future. Through Territory Mapping, the 10 Foundations and 7 Community Capabilities, academic and vocational learning can be connected to the skills and attitudes needed to remain relevant in a changing world.



We see this as more than a programme or a training centre. It is an opportunity to create a living ecosystem for community capability, experimentation and discovery, and to demonstrate what becomes possible when people recognise the value of their territory, their contribution and their collective future.



What is discovered in Western Uganda can then be shared with educators, communities and governments across Uganda and beyond.

As both wiki, and in seeking prospective students from Great Britain, I think it would be best to wait until WUaS is a little farther along, and until WUaS accredits as well.
