Hi Sunheart, Angela and Victor,

Am curious about your thinking re creating World University and School as an online intentional community. How? From your perspectives, what's an intentional community (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentional_community)? If we were to enter into World Univ & Sch here in a realistic virtual earth in Google Street View (to which we could all add resources and help create this) ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg and with avatar bots eventually (~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~) how would we grow this as an intentional community? Beginning with Hippies - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hippies - and - You at World University - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University on the wiki-teacher and wiki-learning side ... Group video conferencing into avatar bots and ... ?

Hi Linda,

I hope this email finds you well. How are you?

Am thinking of heading to take a Yoga course with Angela in Yellow Springs, Ohio - https://angela-victor.com/content/schedule - from Sat 10/19/19 - Wed 10/23. Would you have any interest in heading there together and going to some or all of this? Angela is wondrous - and Yellow Springs is relatively close to Pittsburgh.

Blogged further about some of our May envisionings:) https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/05/cream-spot-tiger-butterfly-society.html

Exploring returning to Pittsburgh in late 2020 or 2021 (and possibly to begin a family and raise kids there as well), - and for teaching Yoga in Pgh too (even as I grow MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch). (First places that come to mind for teaching Yoga in Pgh are the Friends' Meeting House in Shady Side, the (pretty) Homewood Library branch 3rd floor room, where I've taught Yoga before, and possibly the Mellon Park Arts' Center aka the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts ).

to me

Dear Scott,
The world is an invisible concept and as I internalize the world, borders disappear! Countries are no more! And I myself disappear in it. Great fullness is all that remains, which gets destroyed as soon as one of my daily tasks comes knocking. But I am able to go back to that warmer feeling once more, until the pressure of the task makes me come back to the outer world. Sometimes I know that I have several things waiting that expect my attention. That is confusing so I have to go to one and then the other and the boundaries of the present world have returned. When I ask myself : how about Scotty's world university, I get confused for the world is an area just around me and the rest is as abstract as it is when I withdraw into the deeper levels.
When you want me to talk about the external world university, I agree it is a fantasy world, a virtual reality and not real. For me not worth thinking about, for it would drive me into a confusing and paralyzing state of helplessness ....
It seems fine for you though, but do not ask me to join , please.
LOVE, victor

Dear Victor,

Thanks for your worldly email. When I read about it - your writing about your world (in your Yoga Hall school in Eftalou in Greece?) - I enter into your world and learn via these digital communication technologies, which are all external to my inner world of meditation: inner releasing action (relaxation response)~soaking in the Harbin warm pool socially/with people all around~Yogic sitting in warm water. These communication technologies via your writing too open your world to me. When I come to your course in Yoga learning in Greece, I may have read your Yoga web site inviting this 'joining' possibility. The world (work too) of World univ & sch mediated by information technologies just outside people (your "an area just around me"), where we will freely learn & teach (wiki-wise) will include soaking meditation in the virtual Harbin warm pool for learning and undoing ... one can join by typing on the iPad, watching an Angela & Victor Yoga video from Yoga ~ https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Yoga ( https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects ) ~ getting into one's bathtub with digital mask holding smartphone and hanging out at Harbin, and undoing as un-learning & re joining & connecting. The open wiki side of this world school is 'as you like it' (yoga-wise to) ... and make-makey-create too.

For those who study at Uni Amsterdam, MIT, Stanford, Oxbridge and now join in World Univ & Sch online for MIT OCW-centric degrees, their lists of things to do in the world, task-wise, for learning, will be different joining-wise too.

The world symbolically mediated, whether A) learning Yoga from you in your Greek Yoga Hall school or online, B) meditating, or C) visiting Harbin, generates reality - the real - in our bodyminds.

Into sitting in meditation for me here, where these little borders around 26 letters, and the borders surrounding images (like the Twitter bird I see on my smart phone) will soon disappear. Sitting and yogic communication - both good.

Methinks intentional community for me may have to emerge in beginning a family (and not in any emergence from communities' thinking out of the '60s & '70s.

And onto the ongoing creation of our worlds ... painting after painting (vis a vis your art -

https://www.ihanuman.com/sites/default/files/media/victor_cimg1066.jpg) and letter after letter ... thanks to beautiful language & symbolizing!

Love from your friendly Yogic human primate learner, :) Scott

Thanks for your wondrous email-thinking reply to begin, Sunheart,

When I riff with your idea-riff re intentional community online at a virtual Harbin inclusive of soaking in our home bathtub with a digital mask holding our smartphones, the water we might be soaking in at home is the 'natural' and the 'holistic' ...  relaxation response meditation with serene beings (eventually realistic avatar bots ~ virtual people ~ of you and me ... and everyone at Harbin? in real real time?), now virtual is One-Common-Unity, created intentionally via the virtual - voila: community? Not quite for me ... sometimes isolated, sometimes alone-feeling, but then too the digitally-absorbed mind flow-experiences offset the non-connecting ... but how to create virtually 3 soakings per day from home with sociality, and traveling (to Harbin), and connecting online, swimmingly ~ from home?  Power of the mind Dutch yogically? - https://youtu.be/cyobOABtGAE ??? - https://youtu.be/C4E6wtGCOnQ ??? - glad both Victor van Kooten and Angela Farmer  got back to me to same email questions ... may blog today about all of your wisdom.

Besides 'troopbonding' as informing this human primate's reading of community, I suppose this is my vision of community with kind of both thinking/researching/academic and Harbin intentions ...
Best to be able to research, study & teach from virtual Harbin or home @HarbinBook #RealisticVirtualHarbin #RealisticVirtualEarth #RealisticVirtualUniverse #RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics in new WUaS Google platform https://t.co/OgzmltXTNA where John Hennessy is Alphabet's head

Sunheart,

Re community and 'troopbondage' as a kind of principle, I head here - http://scottmacleod.com/anthropology/determinism.htm - and with some further John Money thinking from same book here - http://scottmacleod.com/JohnMoneyConceptsOfDeterminism.html - the other principles in these 'concepts of determinism' being 'pairbondage,' 'abidance,' 'ycleptance' and 'foredoomance.' Appreciating the realism here re community post 1960s, and post India-ashram, beyond a Jacques Lacan MD concept of the 'real' as 1 of 3 registers (in understanding the mind - and who gets into 'desire' as well in these regards), the others being the 'symbolic' and the 'imaginary.' The 'real' for Lacan is hard to define, but as examples could include the 'table' in front of you which your computer is on, or the 'wolf' (at the door) as predator, and predation too in evolutionary biology, for example, - and riffing-wise. My community - my troop bond is pretty distributed in life in general - ie not place or local centric.

Yclepting idea (see John Money above) - to name, call, or style - would include naming the idea of 'intentional community' as well as the idea of awakening or happiness. ...

So how would community as communitas - and in a very positive sense now - manifest itself in a realistic virtual Harbin / Earth i.e. (in thinking communitas, am thinking a Grateful Dead concert, 1965-1979, or soaking serenely with others in the Harbin warm pool, or sitting in silence in Quaker Meeting where centering down meditation emerges that's flourishing with bliss bubbling up? Time to sit intentionally in our bathtubs in Harbin-temp warm water with digital mask visiting virtual Harbin and soaking in virtual Harbin with other eventually realistic - communicating too - avatar bots to soak with, as well as hang out with on the virtual sun deck?

All re riffing with principles of 'intentional community' idea where Money's concepts of determinism came to mind ... .:) ... with love explorations inherent in this all ...

Dear Angela, Sunheart, Victor (and Harbinites),

Thanks so much for your emails. I bring them together here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/08/ox-eye-daisy-intentional-community.html?m=0 - which might make my question about intentional community online at a realistic virtual Harbin re hippies a bit more coherent.

As I see this ~
Harbin has often had "where it's happening" VIBE esp. in summer in pool area - a unique kind of 'intentional community?' How best to do in #RealisticVirtualHarbin in #RealisticVirtualEarth? Nymphea alba (European white water lily): Scottish Small Pipes' "Tune Tutorials" (free and open) played on an A chanter from the College of Piping's Blue Tutor, Volume 3, by Scott MacLeod * * * Co-teaching Yoga in Pittsburgh, Inspiration from Angela and Victor? * * * Intentional Communities ONLINE * * * Sunheart at Harbin - How would we develop virtual Harbin in Street View as an intentional community? * * * A Note from Angela Farmer

Good morning, M,

Per the way you began this email thread:
"Yes, I do think going to meetings, joining a group with a common interest, teaching or taking a yoga class for example, etc. posting a profile on a website (I know a fair number of people who met partners on the internet) - are all opportunities to meet a partner. Get the info out there..."

Am thinking of heading to take a Yoga course with Angela in Yellow Springs, Ohio - https://angela-victor.com/content/schedule from Sat 10/19-Wed10/23 - and although very much pre-mature, brainstorming-wise, am curious if somehow I might even invite Pittsburgh Yoga teacher Linda Meacci. ... After getting WUaS up and running with A) BPPE, B) WASC senior and re C) funding, am exploring heading back to Pittsburgh - to raise a family even. Would you, Ma, like to have an early Thanksgiving together on Thursday, 10/24/19 :)?

Very good piping lesson with Finlay in Glasgow earlier (it's so great to be able to do this via video conferencing) ... (see my email to Finlay MacDonald below as well).

How has your week gone? And what are you up to this weekend?

Love, Scott

...

Finlay (at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow, Scotland),

Thanks so much for the lesson. Glad to get my Walsh Scottish small pipes' Combo Drone working on both its notes (D & E) and with the tuner as a beginning baseline from the High A on the chanter - and in newly exploring playing what I'll call "modal, medieval" harmonies (a la folk rock band Steeleye Span from the late 1960s and 1970s, and Jethro Tull too) which is a sound I'd like to explore further. Appreciating too our generative learning conversation in these lesson regards - and glad to connect too. Thank you.

Glad too to work out my tuning question re differential blowing for high A compared with low A on chanter ... and to focus on the blowing of the high A for tuning as a kind of baseline.

Great too to explore playing the 4 different tunes from sheet music, and potentially in different keys, with the Combo Drone:

The ScotsAire Hornpipe (in the key of A?)

The Streaker (in E?)

The Queen's Own Highlanders Polka (in D?)

Paddy's Leather Breeches (in B?)

... to hear what tunes might work with which 'chord drones' and why.

Was it George MacDonald in 1836 who you said first started to write down bagpiping music on paper (and re the Scottish Small Pipes' new 1) B flat chanter and the 2) A chanter re "Piper's A" which is actually often a B flat on the GHB)?

I'll lay out some further goals to chart development (item 3 - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm) for our upcoming lesson 3rd lesson (along the lines of having recorded all the College of Piping's Blue Tutor Vol 3 tunes on the SSP A chanter for learning - https://soundcloud.com/scottmacleod-com). I may possibly begin to record the tunes - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/gobies-scott-macleods-honey-in-bag-cd.html - for my upcoming "Honey in the Bag" album and am now with exploring the Combo Drone for pretty modal harmonies; may also explore recording the CoP Blue Tutors tunes on the D and B flat chanters. Would love to hear you play some of these for learning from. Seeking to bring them up to tempo, especially the fast ones, and with drive.

And looking for ongoing connections re item 12 in these above Guidelines which I'm learning from:

'12 Look for connections. (Make the social aspect of practicing regenerative - S.M.)
Music washes away the dust of everyday life from your feet.'

Thanks so much - and for the social aspect of playing and learning from you especially.

Cheers, Scott

Hi Ma,

Some further odds and ends re Yoga teacher Linda Meacci and our emailing today below.

What did you think of Quantum's "Looking for Violeta"? Am curious about Linda's misspelling of this "looking for violate" - ...  Linda won't be able to head to Yellow Springs to a course with Angela 10/19-10/23 - ... since there are no Quantum plays scheduled then, I noticed. Could you possibly please inquire with Karla Boos ... would like to invite Linda to this course with Angela Farmer - per you 'odds and ends' suggestions - re taking or teaching a Yoga course :) As you'll see below, I'm exploring too moving to, and teaching Yoga in, Pittsburgh perhaps in the second half of 2020, even while I continue to develop World Univ & Sch, and teach there too. (But it could still make sense to hang onto the Canyon 94516 place ... maybe big Quantum Theatre contributors might even enjoy the reward of visiting the SF Bay Area and staying there for free). And I could also use it as a base for actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic research into the future, as a begin a gradual move back to Pittsburgh ... all possibly contingent upon the potentiality to begin a family. ... Would she be good to explore connecting with? :) Could you possibly please check in with Karla Boos about some of these questions? ... Thank you!

Will probably post in my blog today the "Tune Tutorials" recordings, as well as some about my lessons and learning with Finlay.

Methinks that Linda or Bob Bishop (see below) would make a great organizer re my teaching Yoga in Pittsburgh - and having an organizer (or two) would be invaluable re my previous experience with teaching Yoga! :)

What are you up to this weekend? :)

L, Scott

Hello Scott,

Thank you for the invite to study with Angela in Yellow Springs, Ohio. I will be in Italy from Oct 7- Nov 10 for our back-to-back Yoga Retreats. So I will not be able to attend Angela's workshops. I hope you get to attend!

I think all the places you mentioned to teach are good options. Friends Meeting House is renovating. I imagine it will be beautiful. Their rental charge is reasonable. Homewood Library is also a good idea! I think it would have be donation based in the library. But that can work nicely.

And also the arts center is a good idea. I have taught out of a few Presby Churches through the years and that has always been easy.

I don't know the actress you mentioned, but I just saw Quantum's latest production "looking for violate". The chilean music was amazing!

Keep me posted on your plans and I hope you make it to Yellow Springs. Thank you for thinking of me.

peace

Linda

Hi Linda,

Thanks for your email. Your teaching in Italy sounds very very wonderful! And what a great trip as well! It looks like I'll probably miss "Looking for Violeta" if I were to head back to Pgh for 19 Oct-23 Oct for a course with Angela ... and although my mother saw a Quantum show recently this August, I haven't heard back from my mother Jane about Yoga in Yellow Springs, whom I've inquired about with her. My mother knows Karla Boos, Quantum's director, so will wait re any indications from ma mere in these regards.

Thanks too for the feedback about good Yoga spaces to teach in in Pgh. Am curious - brainstorming-wise - how you and I exploring teaching together could increase people in our hypothetical combined course, and in our individual classes. Will give this some thought - I know of no Yoga teachers that teach regularly together in a city - and flourishingly. Do you? Angela and Victor only seem to be mostly teaching together in Greece these days - and people come a long way to take their courses - and Lesvos isn't a city. And I haven't heard much about Rodney and Colleen teaching Yoga together these days, for ex., but re this Yoga journal article about Rodney and Donna - https://www.yogajournal.com/lifestyle/yoga-couples-donna-fone-and-rodney-yee - it seems that if one of the co-teachers was an organizer, that this could increase attendance in the co-taught Yoga classes, as well as the individually taught Yoga classes. Angela and Victor's organizer is Patricia Schneider who lives in Yellow Springs! And while she too is a Yoga teacher, she gets to study with Angela by bringing her to Yellow Springs, and both she and Angela earn some money, and share Angela's wonderful teaching there. Seeking to give this co-teaching idea more consideration.

Happy Yoga travels, and great to get your email, Scott

Linda,

J is a good actress as you'll see in the 4 minute video at the top here ... http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/08/arctic-raspberry-philosophy-in-this-blog.html?m=0 ...

She also seems like she could dote on kids ... worth learning if she's a good egg, and is seeking to begin a family (from my mother). There is much trickery in the world re the Desiderata - http://mwkworks.com/desiderata.html - and yet finding a great partner for family is worth discerning (to use a Quaker word).

Are you looking to increase your Yoga class size? Do you think acting instruction could help? Angela seems like she's had acting classes in the past - and gone deeply with them. What are you seeking as a Yoga teacher? Are you seeking to co-teach, or what do you envision with regards to what you're seeking (if anything) in your Yoga and teaching?
I've asked my mother about the question of inviting J to Angela's Yoga's course in Yellow Springs - but there aren't any hot springs there! :)

Warmly, Scott

Is Jana a 'good egg'? Seems like she might be.

Am thinking of heading again to the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion - https://www.kswild.org/ksregion - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klamath_Mountains_(ecoregion) - https://www.worldwildlife.org/ecoregions/na0516 - of southern Oregon / northern California on my way north to Reed in September. I actually drove through this vast continental US forested area in June - and was 'wowed.' Would like to explore a bit further. David Rains Wallace published a book called "The Klamath Knot" (Sierra Club Books - 1983 / University of California Press) in the early 1980s while I was at Reed I recall ... about its evolutionary biology, and mythology ... focusing on the unique species that have evolved there due to unique evolutionary and geological history. Echoes of David Quammen's books, Oregon environmentalism / Cathedral Forest Action Group thinking too (non-violent activism, possibly compared with Earth Firsts' sometimes militant activism, for ex). Oregon was a hippie haven / heaven in the 1960s and '70s too. Although it occurred to me on this trip also to explore Hart Mountain Hot Springs, I may instead head to Hart Mountain Hot Springs, Plush, OR 97637 on the way back from Wisdom Creek Ranch to SF Bay Area possibly in June of 2020. Seeking a Toyota camper van hybrid (and there aren't any in the US, believe it or not, but there are 3 in other countries: the Proace, Lerina and Alphard ... go figure) since the Toyota Sienna isn't really a camper van. I appreciate Toyota's design qualities and relative value.

Seeking to record the remaining tunes today in the CoP's Blue Tutorial Vol 3 as Tune Tutorials before lesson with Finlay tomorrow morning. Have gotten some new holes punched in my bellows' arm band strap - so there's no more wiggle room in it, which is good. Recording these tunes creates a kind of recording baseline from which to develop too.

On with World Univ & Sch, next book of poetry "To the Dance or the Pools? - Virtually! ..." piping, and much more!

Is my blog a philosophy, or does it express a kind of philosophy? Possibly. Here's one definition in this sense:

"• a theory or attitude held by a person or organization that acts as a guiding principle for behavior: "don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed, that's my philosophy" " (Apple dictionary)

And some others:
"Philosophy (from Greek φιλοσοφία, philosophia, literally "love of wisdom") is the study of general and fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy

"Philosophy is a way of thinking about the world, the universe, and society. It works by asking very basic questions about the nature of human thought, the nature of the universe, and the connections between them. The ideas in philosophy are often general and abstract."
https://simple.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy

"Philosophy uses the tools of logic and reason to analyze the ways in which humans experience the world. It teaches critical thinking, close reading, clear writing, and logical analysis; it uses these to understand the language we use to describe the world, and our place within it."
https://phil.washington.edu/why-study-philosophy

So, what's wisdom? :)

the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise.
• the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment: some questioned the wisdom of building the dam so close to an active volcano.
• the body of knowledge and principles that develops within a specified society or period: the traditional farming wisdom of India. (Apple dictionary)

And re culture and place? And re Harbin Hot Springs, both actually and virtually?  ... :)

What are you up to today, and this weekend?

Tutti frutti :)

Love, Scott

Dear Ma,

Re meetings and this thread ... glad to have heard back from Jerry Gabay and Quaker friends in Portland OR. He can probably meet there on 9/12. Will see about others.

I emailed Bruce Maxwell about a Scottish small piping group (and Rees and Jane Maxwell - no relation to Bruce, all of whom I know through Scottish circles in Bay) ... and haven't heard back yet.

Your mentioning Karla Boos & Quantum theater in Pgh lead me to find Jana Fredricks -

http://www.quantumtheatre.com/about/staff/jana-fredricks/

https://twitter.com/janakayfred?lang=en
- originally from New Orleans. Do you know her? (Are both Linda Argote and Jean Thomas originally from there too?)

... I need to get BPPE licensing and WASC senior accreditation going with physical address out here ... but while beautiful here, it could be better to raise kids in Pgh.

Have a great week, and welcome home! :)

Love, Scott
