Scottish Country Dancing in St Catherines, Ontario, Canada in the 1970s and now 

Dear Jeanne and Jean, (Susan, whose mother was the 'chaperone' on those SCD balls in St. Catharines, as well as my mother Jane), (resending this with St Catharine's spelled with an 'a'),


Greetings yesterday from the city of St. Catherine's Canada Montebello park (where SCD is held in June and September +). And very nice to talk with you Jeanne on Tuesday August 1, 2023. I called both of you to inquire about where the Scottish Country Dancing hall for about 300 dancers in the second half of the 1970s might have been in St. Catharines. I traveled with high school age friends in around 1976 and 1977 north there to dance twice in RSCDS balls, in a hall that held about 300 people. Any further thoughts about where this hall might be or have been then?

Just drove 2 hours and 20 minutes northeast into Ontario Canada (a lesson in French on the signs) after talking with a Mr Flack at the Canadian border entrance, who asked about Real ID which worked, about weapons, and I told him I was heading toward Nova Scotia and for Scottish bagpiping  there. Many Hostelling International hostels are closed, still haven't seen how to get currency in Canadian dollars. Liking the French and English influences of Quebec and re familiarity of culture sonehow (although America like - there's a bit of fraying at this society's seams too. Glad to have heard this Aug 1, 2023 from David Thurston - that I'm heading back to California: "Hey Scott,

Thanks for your message as well, Ma, just now. Just arrived in Quebec city ... having booked a bed in an Auberge International (Hostelling International youth hostel) in the beautiful old part of town. Lots to see as I drove in at dusk ... full of people too ... Parking on these old European like streets seemed impossible ... but around 9, found some spots, asked some French speakers what the signs meant, and what was allowed ... and it's free from 9pm - 11am ... great timing after driving around for nearly 20 - 30 minutes and getting a GREAT tour of the city while looking for a spot. There is a youth hostel tour at 10am of the town ... have also booked Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at the Youth Hostel on Nova Scotia called HI Wentworth (about $31 / per night, while this one is about $52, both in Canadian dollars and before the 3 % credit card fee for buying in Canadian too) ...
