EdX-WUaS impasse?

Dear Larry, Jim, Henry, Sid, Tym, Rob, David, David, (Ed, Janie),

No word back yet after our 2nd World University and School (WUaS) inquiry (http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/04/forester-pass-edx-wuas-impasse.html?m=0) on Sunday 4/18/21 to edX CEO Anant Agarwal (AND this time with including MIT president REIF, MIT VP of Open Learning, Sanjay Sarma, Alphabet Chairman, and former President of Stanford, and edX's Anant Agarwal's Stanford PhD adviser, John Hennessey, and you, Larry, in the email). Our edX representative Matthew (with whom WUaS has been in regular communication, since September 2020) said about 2 weeks ago they are 'standing by' to launch WUaS - so I emailed Anant asking about a solution to what I'm calling question-mark 'edX~WUaS Impasse?' And we have neither the $50,000 to pay edX to integrate their dashboard (for grades etc) into the WUaS G-Suite for Education, nor the high number of prospective PhD and 4-year Bachelor degree prospective students to make it worth it, at this time.

How best to proceed? Contact our edX representative Matthew to find out what he's heard now from Anant after our last 2 communications with Anant? Proceed exploring collaborating with Stanford EPIC and what it has to offer (here too - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/04/forester-pass-edx-wuas-impasse.html?m=0 - thanks to Ambassador Mike McFaul?) - since CC-4 MIT OCW-centric WUaS isn't at all sure that edX courses, with their business focus especially, would retain our WUaS matriculating students for 4 years or longer (even as the Coronavirus 'pandemic,' not epidemic, is receding, and with what edX founders' Harvard and MIT have learned from this, and regarding the new online learning resources they may have created too).

Beyond edX as a resource for brainstorming re its potential as an online educational platform, I'm not sure edX is the sensible direction to head in further either - since their vision seems to be very business-oriented, and they also don't seem to have excelled, for ex., at translating MIT's MIT OCW into MITx as a fascinating curriculum of online take-able MITx classes for grades (https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mitx-related-courseware/), that would retain our WUaS high achieving students, despite edX's attempt in this collection (and these courses Matthew said aren't available to WUaS either - possibly because they aren't a success as online platform).

A Google-informed realistic virtual earth for STEM,

 - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1383619885171761158?s=19 - and as classrooms, seems to hold much promise here for engaging WUaS students especially. Creating 2.2 million jobs via 200 online major universities, and bookstores, computer stores, Robotics' stores, hospital Technologies' Distribution Centers, in their countries and their main languages, as well as wiki schools in 7139 known living languages, could be an attractive growth story to the edX platform (for grades etc) as well as to Stanford's EPIC - not yet realized. EdX could be a great team for WUaS's team to collaborate with - perhaps if they moved out of their 'lean' organization thinking, and into a growing organization mindset. Engaging edX's founders, Harvard and MIT especially has much merit for WUaS here.

THOUGHTs, ideas, questions, suggestions?

Sincerely, Scott

Then I shift my energy into the top three that are working, and away from the three not working - maybe circling back in a year to take another run at them.

Sorry don't have any great thoughts to share.

Dear Larry, Ed, Janie,

As a follow up on this matter, I just got an invitation, and signed up for this Stanford EPIC 2021 Symposium: Integrating Global Topics into Community College Curricula 2021 - and regarding WUaS (see below). I'm wondering if WUaS could network for a great number of initial courses to offer for credit here, and to build upon the edX-WUaS partnering, as well as regarding WUaS's CC-4 MIT OCW-centricity:

Please describe the reason(s) for which you are attending this symposium:*

In CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School (WUaS) partnering with edX (founded by MIT and Harvard), and seeking to matriculate both 4-year online Bachelor degree students, and 5-7 year online PhD degree students (both of which would be free-to-students due to CC-4 licensing of MIT OCW), first in English then in all ~200 countries and in their official and main languages, WUaS is seeking to network further with community colleges potentially for online courses, (and IT infrastructure too) that WUaS could even offer for credit toward free-to-students' 4-year MIT OCW-centric Bachelor degrees beginning 9/1/21. In addition, WUaS's 2 legal entities in California (1- http://worlduniversityandschool.org/, and 2- http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html) could eventually seek to build out further by hiring California community college graduates for example. WUaS is also seeking to explore collaboration potentials in building out a single realistic virtual earth for everything, including, for example, for tele-robotic surgery and Actual-Virtual Lego robotics - https://twitter.com/sgkmacleod/status/1365419095982702595?s=20https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics?src=hashtag_click- (think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow AI, Translate, - and with realistic avatar bots, think Samsung Neons aka artificial humans, and for Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records for all 7.8 billion people (while planning for coding for 7.8 billion people for other reasons too) on the planet - https://twitter.com/hashtag/AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords?src=hashtag_click).

An updated version & with WUaS course link:

As WUaS waits to hear back from Anant (and Rafael Reif, Sanjay Sarma, and John Hennessey), am hopeful that they can not only plan for WUaS PhD and 4 year Bachelor degrees, but also re-focus on creating enjoyable edX courses - with grades. This would be for edX dashboard integration into WUaS G-Suite for Education. This will help much with WUaS retention in a 4 year free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric Bachelor's degree program for ex. While Charlie Nesson's JuryX, edX, HarvardX course, which I took in 2016, is one model for this for me, much has changed since then. And perhaps Stanford via John Hennessey - as well as even virtual Worlds can help - which could be yet another big change for edX, in addition to planning for PhD and 4 year Bach degrees.

edX-WUaS partnering will likely involve other major (earthquakey) and exciting changes for edX and education, - so I'm glad that edX's other founders, MIT and Harvard, are also involved. This could possibly help focus how edX targets its academic courses for PhD and Bachelor degrees - esp. if they could draw WUaS matriculating students' from Harvard (where more than 50,000 students applied this year, and some 1800 were accepted) and MIT applicants via Bill Fitzsimmons, Dean of Harvard Admissions, for example.

Am interested in teaching 'Society, Information Technology and the Global University' - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html- this year at WUaS and maybe via the edX platform too.

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry, (and Ed),

Following up on these 1) WUaS Monthly Business Meeting emails today, 2) whether John Hennessey might help by coming in conversation with edX CEO Anant Agarwal, regarding the question mark of  'edX-WUaS Impasse?', and 3) re my attending a Stanford Medicine Drug Discovery conference online on Monday and Tuesday on behalf of WUaS  ....

It would be great for WUaS to work with Pfizer on aging reversal genetic drug therapies and even clinical trials (which have had fewer side effects reported than Moderna, for example, I've read) - and even in collaboration with Stanford - and re this Stanford Medicine Drug Discovery conference ...

Clinical trials are unfolding with the Coronavirus pandemic - in a topsy turvy way, since they should have been carried out by the FDA BEFORE vaccine administration, to protect Americans' health. Health issues (e.g. blood clots forming from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson's vaccines) with them, and deaths too, are growing, ... Scary SCEPTICISM-evoking stuff ... Glad I carry a vaccine 'passport' now in my pocket - and as the pseudo-clinical-trials' testing - not by the FDA - unfolds on a large scale, worldwide even, on the public! The internet News' media hasn't been warning about the risks of non-FDA approved vaccines at the molecular level, I think, too.

Hopefully aging reversal genetic drug therapies will undergo extensive clinical trials by the FDA.

It would be great to collaborate with the best organization designing genetic therapies - with their collection of knowledgeable bodyminds - and could Pfizer be this (in comparison with Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson and Johnson)? To be seen.

Talk with you soon in WUaS MBM!

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry,

As we at WUaS wait to hear from MIT Prof and edX CEO Anant Agarwal about this - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/04/edxwuas-impasse.html- am hopeful John Hennessey might come in conversation with Anant to help him think this through regarding CC-4 OCW-centric WUaS (http://ocw.mit.edu/), since there are some complex implications - and even as Anant's former Stanford PhD adviser, and as former President of Stanford for 16 years. John might also be able to think through WUaS-edX partnering developments for (Stanford influenced too?) WUaS PhD and Bachelor degrees, first in English, - AND with Stanford-informed CC-4 OCW-centric MD and Law degrees ahead too.

Are there other avenues here for furthering the conversation with edX CEO and MIT Professor of EECS Anant Agarwal that you can think of?

How can we best announce with a registration link to our prospective PhD and Bachelor degree students - with a link ideally - that they can matriculate on September 1, 2021?

Am glad to be attending an online Stanford Medicine Drug Discovery 2 day conference - http://med.stanford.edu/cvi/events/2021-drug-discovery-conference.html- on Monday and Tuesday in these regards too, and regarding WUaS's planned online 'Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages)' -  https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages)!

Dear Larry, Jim, Henry, Sid, Tym, Rob, David, David, (Ed, Janie),

Thanks so much for your email, Jim, early this morning at 5am, too! With your MIT physics's BS and Yale CS PhD, I'm reminded of how it would be great for WUaS to head in a highest quality educational direction (beyond building upon CC-4 MIT OCW in its 4 languages) - and toward STEAM - and of the potential of collaborating with Stanford Medicine and Stanford Law for online Medical Degrees and Law Degrees in 200 counties, and in their main languages, in addition to with Stanford EPIC. So per Chair of the WUaS Board, Larry Viehland's thinking, in last Saturday's open hour-long Monthly Business Meeting (loosely conducted in the manner of Quakers), am wondering if WUaS will still hear back from edX CEO Anant Agarwal (and Rafael Reif, Sanjay Sarma, and John Hennessey) today or soon over the weekend. I think the value proposition of WUaS is in the trillions of dollars as universities and as a company, and in planning for coding for all 7.8 billion people on the planet (and even re alleviating poverty via a single cryptocurrency & UBI experiments, combined with free people-to-people universal wiki education), so am continuing to wait (Friendly-wise too), and communicate, in this process. Thank you:

1
WUaS Monthly Business Meeting as process (seeking to get the WUaS 4/17/21 Minutes out after hearing back from MIT Professor of EECS Anant Agarwal positively even)

2
Social Media, blogging, idea generation and outreach like Twitter (below)

3
Planning for great Universities in all 200 countries, in their languages, planning for wiki schools in all 7,139 known living languages

And, not working ...
A
Fundraising and developing revenue streams, beginning to hire

Outreach, branding, advertising, and media relations

C
Getting PhD and 4 year Bachelor degree programs operable, particularly for our prospective international PhD students for 9/1/21

Thanks so much, Jim, and I'd welcome any of your further thoughts, ideas, questions, suggestions.
