Dear Edu Administrator,

This is a reminder that we will wind down the Jamboard app starting October 1, 2024. Between October 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024, the app will be placed in “view-only” mode and you’ll no longer be able to create new or edit existing Jams on any platform, including the web, iOS, and Android platforms. During this time you can continue to back up your Jam files.

What you need to know

Jamboard files (Jams) currently saved in Drive will automatically be converted to PDFs for all your users. Starting October 1, 2024, we will begin the PDF conversion process and the PDFs will be placed in the same Drive location as the Jam. Please note the following details about the PDFs:

PDF conversions are done on a best-effort basis. We recommend that your users proactively migrate the Jams to one of our partners to continue working on them.
The PDF will have the same created and last modified dates as the original Jam and it’ll be shared with the same users that the Jam was shared with.
- Once a PDF has been created, any changes to the original Jam file, such as file location or shared list, will not be carried over to the PDF.
If the Jam was transferred to a new user, but the new owner has not accepted, the original user will receive the PDF.
If you use Vault, your retention policies and holds will apply on the converted PDF.

After PDF conversions, Jams will remain in Drive and can still be migrated to one of our whiteboard partners using their import tools. After December 31, 2024, the Jams will be deleted and can no longer be migrated. The PDFs will remain in Drive.

What you need to do

Your institution has users that actively use the Jamboard app or that have at least 1 Jam in their Google Drive. Starting October 1, 2024, the Jamboard app will go into “view-only” mode on web, iOS, and Android platforms and users can no longer create or edit their Jams. They can still export Jams to PDF or migrate it to FigJam, Lucidspark, and Miro.

On December 31, 2024, we will complete the wind down of the Jamboard app and your users will no longer be able to access their Jam files. Before then, we recommend the following:

Evaluate alternatives - we recommend that you evaluate our whiteboard app partners, all of whom are integrated with Google Workspace. To learn more, visit each partner website.
Migrate Jam files - before December 31, 2024, have your users download their Jam files. Your users can also migrate their Jam files to FigJam, Lucidspark, and Miro, well before Jamboard winds down.
