Cuillin, Scotland: Happy Clan MacLeod Parliament on the Isle of Skye this first week of August 2026

Happy Clan MacLeod Parliament on the Isle of Skye this first week of August 2026

Mark and Tammie, All,

Happy Clan MacLeod Parliament on the Isle of Skye this first week of August 2026 - https://www.clanmacleod.org/parliament/parliament-2026/clan-macleod-parliament-august-2026-update/!

Are you on the Isle of Skye at Dunvegan castle now, or on the Isle of Raasay where Norman MacLeod father of James MacLeod, our ancestors, came from, before James MacLeod emigrated to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island - and became a kilt maker and tailor - in the 1820s, I think, n'est-ce pas?

How are you doing? How is your MacLeod genetic genealogy further research going. Mark?

Thanks to Tammie Vawter, Mrs. Pacific MacLeod,

Am recalling a

'MacLeod Piping Stories and Traditions and some of PM Donald MacLeod's Bagpipe Music by Scott MacLeod June 2011'

talk and bagpiping performance I gave in 2011 at the Clan MacLeod Pacific gathering - https://clanmacleodusa.org/pacific.html -  in the SF Bay Area:

Hi, Jeff,

Thanks for the invite. I can't seem to get into the Punchbowl invite (seems to be a phishing scheme for password). When and where is your party? Is this a bagpiping party for music-making even potentially?

I only play the Scottish small pipes with bellows these days (due to an ear condition I developed).

Want to explore playing harmonies / seconds together on the Scottish small pipes, if you have a set?

Gave lessons to Rees Parker (above) some years ago - and he stsrted traching a class at UC Berkeley when he was a student there.

Was taking stock of my Scottish piping generativity and see the PS (above).

Best wishes,
Scott

Dear Hugh (MacLeod of MacLeod, and please forward - info@dunvegancastle.com), Mark and Tammie (all on the Isle of Skye at Dunvegan Castle presently, I think), MacLeod family, All,

Greetings from Berkeley, California -

Just blogged about this email thread and more -

Also, I found too these 3 films about MacLeod history by Paul Murton (on the Clan MacLeod USA web site) very edifying as well - a great way to participate in the Clan MacLeod Parliament 2026 virtually in a sense -

What's a rough timeline to getting to real real-time music making or quasi real-time music making say from WUS World University and School multimedia studios or multimedia rooms in rooms in our houses so that individual players of musical instruments could play in real real-time across the globe and between countries?

Regional quasi real-time music collaboration is already possible today, while true global real-time synchronization is constrained by the speed of light and relies on an evolving 5-to-10-year technology timeline.

Timeline & Physics Breakdown

  • Now (Available Today): Regional Real-Time (< 500 Miles) Using software like JackTrip, Yamaha SYNCROOM, or Jamulus over fiber internet, musicians within roughly 300–500 miles can achieve sub-25ms latency—the threshold where audio delay feels natural and imperceptible.

  • The Global Physical Limit (Speed of Light) Light travels through fiber at ~200,000 km/s. Transmitting raw audio round-trip across oceans (e.g., California to Asia or Europe) incurs an unalterable 100–200ms latency floor, making unassisted synchronous jamming physically impossible across continents regardless of bandwidth.

  • 2026–2030+: Global Quasi Real-Time via AI & Control Signals To achieve global ensemble play from home or World University and School studios, systems are shifting toward:

    • Predictive Audio Models: AI algorithms predicting lost/upcoming audio buffers in real time to mask latency.

    • Control Signal Streaming: Transmitting local instrument control data (like MIDI or spatial parameters) instead of full audio streams, paired with server-side beat quantization.
