Beyond the chips/semiconductors (e.g. http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Chips_-_Semiconductors), just the 3D printers for printing houses, beyond the materials to print are a ginormous market in all countries, for example.

Hi, Jack (Professor Qiu),

Re the following -

Rainy Season: Hong Kong WUaS, China WUaS, CC MIT OCW in Mandarin, WUaS planned in all 7,943 languages, How do you construe the role of "pay for performance" in the context of your analysis of labor vis-a-vis "Digital Methods and Social Development"?, What do/might cross-language and cross-cultural comparison studies show in terms of time-management and digital methods and social development (e.g. theoretically in all 7,097 living languages/identities)?, What would the role of World University and School's universities in each of all nation states' analyses be in improving quality of life and economic prosperity in all countries? (And re questions of "being" too?)

Thanks, Scott  -  how did it work? Must be quite an unusual Saturday night for you. All comments and feedback will be greatly appreciated, as this is the first time we do such live webcast.
All best ,
Jack

Hi Jack,

Excellently. Congratulations on having an Intel representative give your first keynote too. I hope your students find their ways into jobs and careers with Intel, a great company to work with, it would seem. Everyone's English was excellent and the mostly Chinese faculty and students I saw are so cosmopolitan!

As an expression of the network society (per Manuel Castells - I noticed the title of your first 2009 book), thanks for the opportunity to participate in Chinese University of Hong Kong's "Digital Methods and Social Development" conference from the SF Bay Area and listen to all of you in Hong Kong (what incredible I.T. technologies!). I heard the first 2 keynotes, and will check out the others, if available, as well.

While there were mentions of Manuel Castells's theorizing of the digital methods and the information age (in your bio, for example), none of the presenters I heard seemed to have read him (as a great social theorist of the internet), so I'd probably explore adding more Castells-informed perspectives, for one, in subsequent CUHK "Digital Methods and Social Development." I attended Castells' "Society and Information Technology" course at UC Berkeley about 15 years ago - and was captivated and riveted but his lectures. I teach a course now on "Information Technology, the Network Society and the Global University" - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html. I hope this course comes into conversation virtually with expressions of global information capitalism I heard (Castells is great in these regards) in your conference too.
In a related vein and re digital methods, I'm also very glad my actual / virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic book was published in April, with an introduction by UC Berkeley Professor Nelson Graburn - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html. My book comes into conversation with Tom Boellstorff's "Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtual Human" (Princeton 2008). In this book and in subsequent virtual Harbin projects, I hope to build a film realistic virtual Harbin / virtual earth for STEM research, and planned in all 7,097 living languages - something like Google Street View with time slider with OpenSim/SL (and at the neural/cell nano/atomic levels too) This will film realistic, interactive, 3D, group-build-able, all-languages, with avatars earth also become "classrooms" for startup CC MIT OCW-centric World University and School (STEM-wise as well as ethnographically).

On my book's web page, you'll find two talks I've given at UC Berkeley. The slides from the one I gave in November 2015 lay out further a new digital method I'm calling ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy (re Professor Richard Rogers approach to digital methods). The video is from a Berkeley talk I gave in November 2012 re Harbin ethngraphically. I think the building of a film realistic virtual earth/cosmos will further the growth of the web, as well as the chip industry (Intel) significantly.
In what ways did you work with Castells besides being a co-author with him - http://www.com.cuhk.edu.hk/en-GB/people/teaching-staff/qiu-jack-l-c at the University of Southern California for your Ph.D.?

Please keep World University and School in mind re both academic careers for your students - planned in each of all 7,097 languages, each a market ... and in 204 countries' each a major university, the "Harvards of the Web." We'd like to become the Harvard of the internet in all countries' main and official languages offering online free CC MIT OCW-centric, Bachelor-level, Ph.D., Law and M.D. degrees as well as I.B. high school degrees. And WUaS is planning an online academic press in all 7,943 languages - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - as well as a bookstore/computer store, again in ALL languages.

It's possible you could become head of China World University and School, for example.

Your conference was excellent. World University and School will hopefully head toward further complementary excellence - as well as networking for careers for our WUaS students too, in all countries' main languages - even as WUaS also grows as an university organization in all 7,943 languages! My compliments to your co-faculty and to all the presenters!

All best,
Scott

Veratrum: JuryX - Free Harvard Law Class begins Tu Sept 27 asking "What is Citizenship?", Poland WUaS, Friends Association for Higher Education updates for membership - 1) a clear Quaker tradition; 2) reputable accreditation ( or substantial progress towards such accreditation); 3) and a stable, significant student body," some of which WUaS has, and others of which are goals for WUaS.

Dora,

Sounds nice and fun - and it's been a while since you've been home to Guagov (how do you spell this in English) near Rzeszow! (Sorry you won't be the Scottish Country Dancing this Sunday either - due to a shoulder injury, I probably won't go either actually. Maybe Koh, Ants and Scot will come, however, to the free introductory party on Th, Sept 8th - which I'm guessing wouldn't make sense for you since you're heading to Poland for 2 weeks on the 10th).
You might enjoy this JuryX course from inspiring Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Charles Nesson - https://www.edx.org/course/juryx-deliberations-social-change-harvardx-hls3x-0 - in MIT UnHangouts (similar but different from Google Hangouts). Since you're all but a lawyer in Poland - with its two kinds of law :) ... civil and religious - this course might be interesting to you too re Creative Commons' licensed Poland World University and School http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Poland (planned in Polish, and accrediting on MIT OpenCourseWare - http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/) - and with planned online law degrees (in addition to undergraduate BS, Ph.D., M.D. and high school I.B. degrees - all in Polish too). JuryX begins September 27th, a few days after you return. CC is yet another form of law - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Creative_Commons_Law ! :)
I'll probably take this JuryX course for the second time. Charlie Nesson's course are really well designed, internet-centric, inspiring, conversation- and idea-centric and can generate a kind of flourishing in learning ... Might you be interested in this inspiring online course?
Bon voyage, Scott

Hi, Guilford President Fernandes and Friends at FAHE,

Thanks for your prompt email, Donn. I've enjoyed the Friends'Association for Higher Education conferences at both Haverford College, and George Fox University in Oregon - (and your presentation and panels there, Jane, especially. I also gave a presentation at George Fox on Friendly-informed World University and School and Growing the Society of Friends -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_qhi-ehBdkdSWtPMXpvTVJPVGM/view). Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the Woodbrooke FAHE conference on behalf of World University due to insufficient finances.

Thank you for the updates, Donn, too on the "three criteria for institutional membership were discussed. They were: 1) a clear Quaker tradition; 2) reputable accreditation ( or substantial progress towards such accreditation); 3) and a stable, significant student body," which we had corresponded about this spring.

Concerning these updates, in exploring institutional membership for World University and School in FAHE, startup WUaS will be a pro bono "client" in a UC Berkeley Law class this autumn for the 2nd semester in a row, where we'll develop further in a number of ways legally. Creative Commons' licensed (CC) WUaS is already a 501 c 3 with plans to accredit on CC MIT OpenCourseWare in its 7 languages and CC Yale OYC, to offer online CC Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and M.D. degrees (as well as I.B. high school diplomas eventually) first in English but planned in all 200 countries' main and official languages. WUaS also is seeking to be incubated by the University of California for accreditation in a developing WASC senior / BPPE policies. I'm attaching last month's WUaS minutes from WUaS's open monthly business meeting conducted in the manner of Friends. All of this has bearing on item 2) "reputable accreditation" in your FAHE update, as well as possibly developing a stable student body (of highest achievers, which is a WUaS goal).

Concerning FAHE's item 1, I could share a recent blog post of mine laying out WUaS's clear Quaker traditions, for example, but I wonder if you could please let me know what FAHE might look for here in terms of criteria for this, etc. The only outreach / advertising WUaS has done is in Western Friend Quaker magazine interestingly. Check out too the outreach video to FGC young friends that a SF Quaker Friend and I did together here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org.

Dendrobium: World Univ & Sch and its F/friendly-informedness, 1947 Nobel Peace Prize Address

https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/08/dendrobium-world-univ-sch-and-its.html

In terms of 3) "a stable, significant student body," WUaS is seeking our first online applicants this autumn from around the worldfrom all 204 nation states (as if applying to Stanford or MIT) to matriculate online for, in a sense, free CC MIT degrees, in the autumn of 2017. If possible, WUaS will matriculate 2000 undergraduate students. Part of our business models' planned revenue streams involves reaching out to Ministries of Education in all countries, both national and local, as if their students were applying to MIT or Stanford which costs $44,000 per year per student; public K-12 education in this country is free to students, as WUaS would like to be at the University level (like some non-US countries are).

Jane, do you think Guilford graduates would be interested in accrediting CC online Ph.D., law and M.D. degrees at WUaS eventually, as well?

Thank you again for your email, Donn, and looking forward to communicating further about this.

Best, Scott

Hi, Donn and All,

Thanks for the calendar information re WUaS potentially applying for FAHE institutional membership. Let's stay in touch as WUaS develops our accreditation and student body. It would be great for WUaS to receive applications from students from all of FAHE's Quaker colleges' for free best STEM CC MIT OCW and Yale OYC planned Ph.D., Law, and M.D. degrees (with WUaS accrediting on CC MIT OCW, for example, with WASC senior). Are there any non-English speaking colleges which are FAHE members?

Glad Quaker / Friend Burl Amsbury of Colorado (with 3 MIT degrees, including a Master's degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management - which course ware is also available for free at MIT OCW) may be coming on as WUaS Chief Operating Officer.

Here, by the way, are WUaS's two main blogs -

including

"14 WUaS Planned Revenue Streams" (as an example blog entry here) -

It would be great to communicate further about growing WUaS's student bodies (in many languages) at the Ph.D. and professional degree levels (law, M.D.) in collaboration with FAHE Quaker colleges.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Scott

Wildlife of Zimbabwe: Interspecies' Communication and Veterinary Medicine at WUaS, Elephant-seeks-a-verterinarian-after-it-was-shot-story heard after online Quaker Meeting, Here is the beginning "Veterinary Medicine" wiki subject at WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Veterinary_Medicine - planned in all countries' main, official and AGRARIAN languages on the web, which should help many farmers, and their governments too!, In what ways could and are non-human species going to the internet, similarly, and asking for medical assistance? In what ways could farmers in remotest areas of all 200 nation states - with smart mobile phones - doing this too for their livestock as well as their own/themselves? In what ways can f/Ffriendly-informed WUaS help with this?

Hi, All,

Thanks, Mary, for Western Friend's online Quaker Meeting again yesterday, and nice to meet some of you therein.

Per our after-Meeting conversation today, and Mary's elephant-seeks-a-verterinarian-after-it-was-shot-story, here's the Interspecies' Communication wiki subject at World University and School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Interspecies_Communications - an example of a wiki subject for open teaching and learning, before CC WUaS moves to a new wiki emerging out of CC Wikidata (developed for CC Wikipedia's 358 languages). How to understand this episode of elephant-human interspecies' communication, in knowledge terms, reasoning even? And check out the ~2 main Quaker wiki subjects / schools on the main Subjects' wiki page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects (only in English so far) - where we can all create subjects about what we love for open teaching and learning, and which is planned for all 7,097 living languages. Many WUaS pages have CC MIT OCW in 7 languages and CC Yale OYC at the top, which courses WUaS will offer for credit (in group video conferencing, for one) for free CC accrediting university degrees planned online in all countries' main and official languages.

I blog daily and some about Friends with much about WUaS; here's a recent blog post on WUaS and "Quaker" - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/08/dendrobium-world-univ-sch-and-its.html

Please teach to, add to, edit and create at WUaS's wiki especially after we move to a new wiki, if inclined as well as invite your f/Friends to do so as well! :)

Friendly cheers,
Scott

Hi, All,

As a followup, and re Mary's elephant-seeks-a-verterinarian-after-it-was-shot-story in Western Friend magazine's Quaker Meeting today, here too is the beginning "Veterinary Medicine" wiki subject at WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Veterinary_Medicine - planned in all countries' main, official and AGRARIAN languages on the web, which should help many farmers, and their governments too! (While remaining wiki schools in all 7,943 languages, WUaS is planning to offer free online best STEM CC OpenCourseWare Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. as well as I.B. high school degrees - in all countries' main and official languages).

Friendly cheers, Scott

Japanese macaque: Harbin Hot Springs' alternative "culture" and World University - All in one film-realistic culture-generating virtual earth "classroom", F/friends "culture" has helped me navigate Harbin's alternative culture, and Harbin's alternative culture has helped me keep Quaker culture in perspective, Focus on culture here :), Would also like to represent / model / create experimentation of brain research in a film realistic virtual earth, something like Google Street View with time slider with OpenSimulator/SL conceptually

Hi Mart!

Thanks too for your email again. Here's more about F/friends and WUaS per your question and my responses - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2016/08/dendrobium-world-univ-sch-and-its.html

In terms of another culture which informs World University and School, which might be more in line with your upcoming geo-spatial informatics (?) studies in Sweden, is our plans to create a virtual Harbin / virtual earth for STEM wiki researchers in all 7,943+ languages to add their own research.  See the slides here from a Berkeley talk I gave last November on my book's web page - http://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - re ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy. Harbin's alternative culture (counterculture), in many ways emerges from a kind of "hippies to the hot springs" California emergence out of the 1960s and 1970s (Stanford still has some of this faintly too). WUaS would like to create film-realistic interactive 3D group build-able virtual earth with avatars and a universal translator - think Google Street View with time slider with OpenSim - as classrooms (and at the cellular and nano-scales too!).

F/friends "culture" has helped me navigate Harbin's alternative culture, and Harbin's alternative culture has helped me keep Quaker culture in perspective. But per my above email to you (now in the blog), it's STEM CC MIT OCW's culture as well as wiki culture, and also Stanford's culture (excellence with a kind of California laid back-ness, I'd say) - and Reed College's conference method and approach to thinking and undergraduate education - that I'd like to bring online into WUaS's group video Hangout cultures. (I'm an anthropologist - and with regard to Quakers too - hence my focus on culture here :).

Looking forward to getting your email, and welcome home soon!

All the best, Scott

Nathan (Jim and Dianne),

Thank you - and great presentation, Nathan (which I'll revisit)!!!

http://www.nathanwilson.com/work
http://cognitive-science.info/community/weekly-update/

CC World University and School, which is like CC MIT OCW in 7 languages (and CC Yale OYC) with CC Wikipedia in 358 languages (and planned as universities/schools in all 7,943 languages), would also like to represent / model / create experimentation of brain research in a film realistic virtual earth, something like Google Street View with time slider with OpenSimulator/SL conceptually ... re my questions (and possibly Jim's too) - and your research, and at the street view, neuronal (cellular) and nano (atomic) levels to begin - but for STEM research in all 7, 943+ languages (with a universal translator - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/WUaS_Universal_Translator - think Google Translate with Wikipedia's ContentTranslation, and at the written word, syllable and phoneme levels to begin).

WUaS would also like this film realistic virtual earth/cosmos (re the Smithsonian/Harvard's Illustris too) to become a "classroom" - and hopefully to become an augmented reality 15 foot cubed "classroom" around us which we could even bioengineer, again planning for all languages (7,097 living languages).

How the biological neuron will relate to a computational neuron (re, for example, the Google Brain project's working computational representation of a neuron) and then find form in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Machine Translation, for research, modeling and experimentation - in a film realistic virtual earth with avatars (both realistic and fantastic) will/could help address some of the questions you're asking, as well as address some of the questions I'm interested in re all languages and what these can help us learn about nano, neural as well as sociocultural linguistic communication processes. (The sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org address and G+ profile is where I'm following speakers of many different languages, and is WUaS's language-focused email).

Re "loving bliss neurophysiology elicitation," i.e. neural cascades of pleasure of certain qualities, and your film-neural processes' "matching" questions, I'm particularly curious about feedback mechanisms for eliciting this brain chemistry when and as we want it, and how to explore an expanding array of qualities of this brain chemistry. Music and films would offer many avenues into marking brain chemistry in terms of such qualities.

I'm going to revisit your presentation, as well as re-listen to your verbal response to my question from your IBM CSIG talk (I've given a talk on a universal translator in this series too) about my question (and look at Jim's resources), and I know you are busy, but any further off the top of your head thoughts would be appreciated!!! (to reiterate Jim too :).

Thanks, Jim, too, for your great resources and questions!

Thank you, Nathan!

Best regards,
Scott
