I think there is a parking lot right on SR 51. Then we drive the other car to the trailhead on Green Ridge Road. It's about a 10- mile hike altogether with the last part on the beautiful canal and through the tunnel

Sounds great ... I think I found the very trail we hiked afterward in AllTrails (and shared this with you too above) ... which was great to see on a Topographic where we had hiked (May bring my walking poles ... and for upper body strength, in addition to possible unanticipated steep trails like on that first path down to the C&O) ... Glad you know these places much ... will learn further where we might hike around SR 51 in the days ahead!

(My waterproof - amazing re bicycling in Portland Oregon back in the day, slip in Merrell Jungle Mocs with some tread still and no lift actually bloodied my right 2nd toe the other day ... a bit too small for this Birkenstock wearer ... May well wear sandals but wonder about moisture deep in the Paw Paw tunnel ... Glad for your progress in the Arabian peninsula, Tym!

Tym, still haven't learned how Jackson Shannon former resident here at 210 East End Avenue died, after new person in front porch room said he was deceased having moved in with co-resident Karen, to replace Jackson Shannon. I saw Lisa Ximei Peng, owner of KK Rentals' management company showing these new people the front porch room (as she had shown me my abode) ... and there was a cop in uniform hanging out on the front porch room for a whole afternoon leaning his back against Jackson Shannon's front porch room ... Am hoping the owner of the actual house and Lisa Ximei Peng didn't somehow arrange to have Jackson Shannon murdered, and in collaboration with a corrupt policeman ... please stay tuned with eyes wide open regarding our getting together. I wouldn't want anything that might emerge from such a possible murder here to affect my departure to meet you, or our getting together ... A new MD resident at Shadyside hospital who might be seeking somehow? Went into the cafe in Shadyside yesterday where 3-4 weeks ago I asked some questions of an attractive CMU student about iPads. A fairly tall man was there again yesterday whom I have seen before with his black lab, a bit older than me ... As we chatted, sort of, Daisy was her name - and could he be this woman's father even possibly - and on his pullover was an image of the state of Michigan. This man has a connection with sweet Daisy, and seems nice and somehow 'released' (speculatively, could he even be a Quaker 'meditator' from the nearby Friends' Meeting and retired professor sim who might have known my father, and knows my mother? ) Who knows ... but the Michigan pullover reminded me a bit of a broken criminal UC Berkeley law instructor MI alum in a possibly corrupt Cal law school) ... I don't think I'll meet this CMU student again, and maybe not anyone in Starbuck's cafe ... but how, I wonder? There's a lot of second hand smoke in the air here which is causing me to be a bit short of breath even (and possibly metaphorically too) ... and regarding my ongoing inquiry into the cause of Jackson Shannon's death (re the murder industry and its latent networks of violence) after he was moved out of the front porch room and Lisa Ximei Peng moved a new couple moved in there, the man of which told me that Jackson Shannon is deceased ... One option is to pick up the trail in the woods that continued as we emerged to take that left onto the dirt road and head uphill. You remarked on going straight. That also takes us down to the canal, at which we could turn left and reach the Paw Paw parking lot. For consideration!
Also the Tuscarora Trail awaits us in the vicinity of Hancock, MD. A little longer drive for you but that trail continues many miles in both directions and also crosses the mighty Potomac.

am marveling at how the planners got great expanses of forests right in the Green Ridge state forest possibly 2 centuries before the planners got it right regarding the EAST BAY MUD large open lands in the SF Bay Area making our communing in the woods yesterday possible! Thank you Tym for our great hike once again in those C and O forests! More food for thought!
How would a World Univ & Sch academic medical center with warm water cure and for Physical-Digital field site generation (ethnographic, archaeological, geological etc) work out 2 centuries into the future planning-wise I wonder?:) ... and will we be soaking there then? (the US govt is old, Harbin Hot Springs since 1972 is young :)
Put another clothing-optional Hot Springs with great ethos (heart consciousness church-wise, out of the box, but different) inside that blue tarping at the Paw Paw trailhead where we met yesterday and all legal at federal and state levels to protect people brainstorming wise :)?

In talking further - thanks, Tym - with the (not attractive) Pgh woman (sounding a bit like high school SCD friends' Rob Byrne and Sue Davis Claus even, in this staid city), behind the counter wearing a mask, in a quiet near empty possibly radical appearing bookstore, that had seen some turmoil since 2002, and with no founders around any longer, she later came over to a bookshelf near where I was sitting, and while I was skimming the not purchasable library book above on Shay's Rebellion, ... and she could have been showing me her ring finger indicating she was not married in this out of the way bookstore ... women are around who are seeking partners (and she seemed fairly traditional and in mid 30s-40s, somehow) ... And I mentioned I had a relative written about in the book, and as I left she asked who it was, and I said Lincoln, Benjamin ... And did she turn slightly red behind ger mask? ... So am not sure about the wisdom of leaving the WUaS sticker and Harbin anthropology bookmark ... but thanks for texting yesterday evening while at your Dad's suggesting saying hi to some people at the Phipps' cafe ... glad I said hi here at the empty Big Idea cooperative bookstore and cafe ... as I continue to circulate
(And as I came into the bookstore, and left it too, a large black woman across the street was dancing outside on the sidewalk happily, Anomalously in this gritty urban neighborhood, and in listening to music on headphones). ...

Am amazed, Tym, at how the "grand ditch" aka C and O canal seems so transformed - in the parts we've hiked - from 1831-1924 when it was operational with boats ... but, possibly a bit discouragingly, was this Big Idea bookstore bad news, empty, & possibly involved even in the illegal sex industry, and the woman on the street a kind of lookout or waiting for somehow business ? ... And/ or could this part of Pgh town be moving toward or away from a somehow comparable C and O canal culture and open vast expanse of forest of western MD, with not seemingly many people or activity or ghosts even from the C and O Canal time 1831-1924 ... Staying alive, worried about my father's subdural hematomas, and somehow possible law breaking in 3 ways - internationally, PA state law, and US federal law, in his head injuries, ... as well as concerned about how 210 E End Avenue Pgh PA 15221 former front porch room tenant Jackson Shannon died ... Or could that black woman dancing also have keeping an eye on an unscrupulous Big Idea Bookstore owner, and hired via a somewhat new strategy by govts., to dance to keep warm, be happy, and keep an eye out, regarding illegalities etc.?

Or could that dancing black woman (Hare Krishna-like, sometimes craven, too) be a government paid 'tute ready and available for any john who might want to get laid, in the the Big Idea Bookstore upstairs ... but perhaps possible historical johns here in the Big Idea, might be racist even, and into the future too ... and so the place is possibly kept a bit free of prostitution somehow ?
