Thanks for your email, Lacy,
Did you ever hear "Robbie Basho - A North American Raga (The Plumstar)" - https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=8Ezp0WMTAzc ? There's a bit of Reed in it, a bit of Harbin, a bit of the '60s too, and India as well ... and it's creative and visionary ... thought you were a bit of a a hippie chick too (or at least the daughter thereof :) and a Reedie wimmin as well .. :)
If one raditional educational setting is a Reed Hum 110 conference with thinkers sitting in a circle around tables, talking face to face about great ideas - as a conversation {see: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Conference_Method_of_Teaching_and_Learning} - having read and processed with "nose in a book" {not necessarily a MacBook computer} the "inputs" for the week, then classrooms rock traditionally ... virtually ... but what if in a realistic virtual earth there was a classroom that looked like a duck, and walked like a duck, but was a classroom, and not a duck :)? (It could still be a duck too :) ...
What are you thinking about studying in grad school? And where, Lacy?
MIT OCW is very traditional "settings" of MIT's courses into what I'll call online sheet music (i.e. musical notation) ... and I was amazed to learn that one grad student in Anthropology a few years ago was able to get ~ $40,000 / year I think (probably toward the top end of this continuum) to study "yellow cake" (e.g. the Nigerian nuclear industry and related) anthropologically, so if possible it could make sense to pick your "traditional educational setting" with a mind toward teaching/researching as a grad student with good remuneration (Stanford's? MIT's? ... would probably be among these best remunerators, different from other mathematical formulators ... and with WUaS as an outsider ?) ... :)
You who grew up at Harbin might find it interesting to study and think about a realistic VIRTUAL Harbin Hot Springs with TIME SLIDER ... ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ... accessible from the Harbin Book Twitter, and check out this MIT Science one - https://twitter.com/ HarbinBook/status/ 910225475682803712 (think Google Streetview/Maps/Earth with time slider and group build-able at the cellular, atomic and subatomic levels, and for all 7,099 living languages) - and especially for brain science / research linguistically. While Harbin isn't a nuclear site, in some people's minds it can vibrate in remarkably fascinating ways (like nuclear sites can in other people's minds) and so studying at WUAS for a Ph.D. or a law degree, for example, might be something that could become remunerative for students along the lines of studying in the Humanities at Stanford in specific situations. Not sure how my "Naked Harbin Ethnography" book will inform this exactly, but it might in a variety of ways.
In seeking to become the Stanford / MIT / Harvard of the internet in all ~200 countries' official languages, WUAS may be able to collaborate further with these great universities as well - and for realistic virtual whole earth / universe creation, as well as possibly with Stanford for Law and Medicine OpenCourseWare.
Hoping to get up to Harbin soon-ish, and to give Ish my Harbin book.
Am an appreciator of Basho, Robbie Basho's music, raga, innovative music, and '60s guitar music, Lacy!
Just some ideas and possibilities here, and nice to hear from you. Greetings to your Mom.
All the best,
Scott

Hi Scott!
Enjoy your time in Middletown and visiting. I am living in Bellingham, Wa and going to school (prepping for grad school). I'm still a traditional educational setting kinda girl.Thank you for the invite! Enjoy your time and all the best with your project,Lacy

Hi Lacy, (Ann! and Heartsong),
I've been emailing a bit with Sunheart after getting his email this
morning, and wondering whether you Lacy, your Mom, and Sunheart, got
the emails (below) that I sent a few days ago to you.

Holy moly, Heartsong ... and we missed celebrating your birthday too!
Will have to explore this (and our own versions of " [ quantum
physics, anti-particles , blah, blah...] " in a realistic virtual
earth at cellular, atomic, and subatomic levels ...

the brain chemistry of {loving} bliss while soaking and hanging out -
either at home in our bathtubs or in the pool area, where the latter

Not sure what it means but this pic just popped up in Twitter and I
posted this picture of MIT Chemistry grad student Grace Russell -
https://twitter.com/ScienceMIT/status/909867911124340736 - rappelling
down sheer rock face to get to a waterypool which looks to be about
the size of the warm pool but I'll bet it's cold ... just posted this
photo here https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ... could be nicer for her
just to check in at the gate, or the upcoming kiosk ... Did you hear
that it's the anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's od passing (with news
report just below Grace)
Your warm-watery Taoist friend (which words I just added here ~

To Lacy, Ann and Sunheart (from a few days ago after a bouncback)
Wondering Lacy too whether you might be interested in an online MIT
OCW-centric Ph.D. or Law degree with a focus on the Chinese language
at World University and School in the next year or two (with potential
career opportunities at WUaS, and in numerous other areas). Approaches
to learning for free MIT OCW-centric university degrees at WUaS
(probably in all ~200 countries' official languages!) will emerge out
of Reed's thinking too.
Just checking too whether your Yahoo email addresses work from this
email. And hi Ann! How are you? (Is this Harbin Pubs email you best
email address?)
And can we celebrate your birthday Sunday (a few days early)
afternoon, Sunheart?
Regards and Namaste, Scott
