Do Human Rights Actually Exist?


I see much, much relevance in this "Do Human Rights Actually Exist?" (Human rights are/have been a key issue for Quakers for centuries) for the SF Quaker Meeting, I'd suggest as well. 


And I recently came across this in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, main newspaper ... with possibly interesting relevance for atheists in the text:

"After court ruling, state House to resume faith-based prayer

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania House of Representatives will resume opening its sessions with faith-based prayers, more than a month after a federal appeals court said the practice comports with the U.S. Constitution.

Republican Speaker Mike Turzai of Allegheny County announced those plans on Thursday, after a federal district court judge ended an injunction.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-to-1 in August that a prohibition against atheists and other nonbelievers giving the opening invocation didn’t violate the Constitution’s Establishment Clause.

Mr. Turzai’s office says he hasn’t selected the person who will give the next invocation, when the House returns Oct. 21.

Since the guest chaplain policy was blocked, Mr. Turzai has been assigning the invocation to House members".


Why is the Pennsylvania House of Representatives resuming opening its sessions with faith-based prayers - especially given the US Separation of Church and State? I've shared this article in Friends' Journal from 2008 by long-time Pittsburgh resident George L. Alexander MD before - https://www.friendsjournal.org/separation-church-and-state/ - but I appreciate George's reasoning focus on the following: 


What is the historical background of the First Amendment, which established the separation—what was it meant to achieve, and why? How can we understand the current struggle over the “wall of separation”? Is there a way to ameliorate this conflict? And how do Friends relate to the separation?


It seems both Alex O'Connor and George Alexander take far-reaching reasoning approaches to new developments in religion and legal questions in very edifying ways. And it seems like 'outgrowing God' and especially developing new language like 'nontheist f/Friends' offer potential F/friendly openings for the future idea-wise. der Link zum YouTube Video hat nichts mit Tabletopia zu tun. Tabletopia ist eine virtuelle Plattform auf der du fertige Brett- und Kartenspiele oder deine eigenen Spiele mit anderen online spielen kannst. Für Spiele, die du selber entwickeltst, stellt Tabletopia Würfel, einfache Kartenspiel-Sets, Spielsteine, virtuelle Spieltische und vieles mehr kostenlos zur Verfügung. Du kannst auch deine eigenen Spielbretter, Spielsteine usw. hochladen.

Wir haben gestern mit Georgy und Florin mein neues Spiel ausprobiert und ich habe es gleichzeitig auch über Lightstream gestreamt. Lightstream hat eine sehr gute Audioqualität, Screen Share ist manchmal ein bisschen eigenwillig und auch die Videoqualität ist auch OK. Mittlereweile klappt es auch mit dem Umschalten zwischen den Szenen. Ich habe fast  1 Stunde gestreamt und die gesamte Aufnahme war durchgegehend von guter Qualität. Einzigster negativer Punkt bei Lightstream ist, dass du aufpassen musst nicht mehrere Audioquellen für das Mikrofon zu verwenden. Manchmal benutzt Lightstream Studio mehr als eine Mikrofonquelle und dann erzeugt dieses natürlich einen verzerrtes Audio (Echo u.ä.).
