Hi Catherine,

Nice again to get your emails. I found this helpful that coronaviruses "cause mild-to-moderate respiratory illnesses."

Yale New Haven Health: Coronavirus (COVID-19) vs. Influenza (Flu):

"Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that are common in both humans and animals that usually cause mild-to-moderate respiratory illnesses."
https://www.ynhhs.org/patient-care/urgent-care/flu-or-coronavirus#

And here is a great Stanford interview with former Secretary of State Condy Rice saying there are inklings that SARS was involved in the Wuhan, China genetic event - https://www.hoover.org/research/condoleezza-rice-covid-19-and-national-security -
"Condoleezza Rice: COVID-19 and National Security | Hoover Virtual Policy Briefing"

Cheers, Scott

Ma,

And how can we transform the media landscape away from the fear generation that US media seems to be creating to a healthier, more reasoning, and somehow to better media generation (am thinking the Swedish newspaper dn.se or the German press, for example)? Voting the b...... out in Nov election could be a significant part of such a change! :)

Am appreciating your sensibleness in the coronavirus pandemic, Ma, and appreciating much your being my wonderful mother!

By the way, the last time Ed, who's a MD as you know, called me, he called me on the way back from work (Kaiser Permanente in Richmond, near Berkeley), possibly the Sunday before last - and even with the "Stay home except for essential needs' directive in CA - https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/ - Ed has seemed very unconcerned about the novel coronavirus in CA. Am thinking that the knowledge generation state-by-state - and our readings of this - would be very important (and am wary of cultural ignorance too in interpreting novel coronavirus effects!).

Also, many, many people in their 90s are recovering from Covid-19, and the main issue is that we don't have any data about this (in a Boston Globe article from yesterday) - which lack of data is a real deficit.

Am very glad, Ma, you're taking great precautions, nevertheless - and also because of the lack of knowledge and potential for misinterpretation (even misuse???) of so many diverse readings of novel coronavirus Covid-19 even among the medical doctors, and others (and in the Pittsburgh area), for example. And reliable data and medical knowledge is so diverse that it's not a simple process for all of us to analyze it for ourselves. Am continuing to hypothesize that it's some kind of "fire drill" - either overblown, or not so overblown (or addressing multiple complex issues in society - in all ~200 countries).

And per the German press, it looks like there is at least one drug that is effective already, Remdesivir -
https://www.fr.de/multimedia/brasilien-ort28441/corona-pandemie-studie-macht-hoffnung-medikament-remdesivir-zeigt-wirkung-covid-19-zr-13668822.html - but that it has side effects (even fatal ones) - https://translate.google.com/ ... steps in the right direction, I'd say ... as the US sorts out its epidemics in 100 different cities during this pandemic!

Stay safer, Ma! Thinking about you!

Much love, Scott

Hi Ma,

How are you this day? It's beautiful here today again (but supposed to get too hot in the next days in the afternoon! :). Nice again to get your emails.

Hi Ma,

Just got a message from Elliott after what seems like years:

Hi Scott. I'm well. I've been laid off since March 9. Fortunately I always keep a cushion. I've been busy with house projects. Been missing tennis since the local cities have closed tennis courts. But I did find a wall in my local park to hit against, so I can get a good work out there.

the Oakland ashram is closed, of course. Luckily there have been several live stream events from the ashram in the Catskills. So that's been great.

I hope you are staying healthy. Fortunately, the latest studies, such as the one in Santa Clara County, seem to indicate that the mortality rate is much lower than previously thought. Good news.

... and shared this with Elliott too :)

Hi Elliott, nice to hear from you, and glad you're well. House, tennis, Ashram sound good in this coronavirus pandemic time. Seems sheltering at home/ self-quarantine - then testing, vaccine development, and potentially contact-tracing can be strategies for new norms in a changed world where genetic risks are low.

Playing my Scottish Small Pipes in preparation for my 1st upcoming album I'm planning tentatively titled 'Honey in the Bag' - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/western-honey-bee-re-my-upcoming-honey.html. Am both giving and taking Skype Scottish small piping lessons presently as well! My student lives in SF, and has played Highland Pipes since around 2006, and I'm studying with Connor Sinclair at the National PIping Centre in Glasgow, who recently at around age 23 won the Glen Fiddich and Northern Meeting, and from whom I'm learning much. MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch is growing - writing letter to MIT president Reif soon re collaboration ; please remember that when our wiki front end and back end come together, the wikis are and will be for open wiki-teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - much like editing or reading a Wikipedia article. (On with my 5th book, also Harbin-inspired, in the autumn - https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity! ... and seeking to facilitate a realistic virtual Harbin / realistic virtual earth for STEM research and as classrooms!).

A virtual something in coronavirus pandemic time?

Thanks for your text this evening, and invitation, Koh:

Niana was talking about us all having a socially distanced walk soon when you're in town. Urine town, ha ha. Is that happening? We can talk well then! Thoughts?

Koh

Scott: Hi to your kids, Koh! What a nice invitation too! I think, however, I'd like to lower the risks to you and your kids, and moi, re visiting P-town:) at present, and continue to shelter at home / self quarantine until we learn more, and also per the state of California's directives - eg the "Stay home except for essential needs' directive in CA - https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/ ( mentioned here -  http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/sea-squirts-ascidiacea-yale-new-haven.html?m=0 ) and re emergent Google-Apple contact tracing projects too ... Skype or Google Meet meal together with Ants and your kids, since we can't yet go for a virtual walk together in the Golden Gate Park together in digital masks / in the back of our round-rim hippie glasses? :) how is everyone?

Stay safe, Fujinagas!

Cheers, Scott

Koh,

Was this text - "Niana was talking about us all having a socially distanced walk soon when you're in town. Urine town, ha ha. Is that happening? We can talk well then! Thoughts?" - actually from you? (Or could it have been from a troll even? The urine humor doesn't sound like you, Koh. Urine town has a logic for SF, in a curious way ... so, Pee-town, or P-town SF, ... Stump-town Portland, Oregon, has a logic too (all those poor old growth trees over the past 150 years or so ... )) ... Searched for the nicknames for Seattle, SF and other large west coast cities and there are many, and yes, Stumptown is one for Portland, but neither Urine-town nor Pee-town / P-town are nicknames yet for SF, although P-town is for Provincetown, Massachusetts! :)

New norms in a changed world where genetic risks become low through thought / thinking, or at least mitigated (given the unpredictability of genetic mutations) ... as a consequence of coronavirus pandemic?

Seems sheltering at home/ self-quarantine - then testing, vaccine development, and potentially contact-tracing can be strategies for NEW NORMS in a changed world where genetic risks are low.

improving quality of life after coronavirus

https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/26/life-after-coronavirus-pandemic-change-world

https://newrepublic.com/amp/article/157102/imagining-better-life-coronavirus

... cleanliness / hygiene re coronavirus ... but I'm also wondering a vision for quality in a diverse democratic online America ... and behavior-wise too ... language-wise too ... what new norms, quality-informed, and culturally too - will emerge, I wonder? (Wanna stay away from the elites of Europe, and the elitism of a Harvard or the 'ivy league' Universities in think about existing cultures where the idea of 'quality' has some history). New norms / vision of quality ahead in USA after coronavirus, you two?

Cheers, Scott

The text message putatively from you came just as I was walking in the beautiful valley next to where I live ... am wondering if this text message on my smartphone did come from you or not ... did it? ... and, either, way, whether there might be a tracking already going on re Google-Apple's Contact-Tracing emergent project regarding coronavirus 'pan'-demic prevention.
Cheers, Scott

Dear Larry,

The card addressed to you which came here to Canyon 94516, is still unopened, but is visible through side slots. It says something about Wells F not being able to reach you by email, which issue I think is solved, since I gave Wells your email, for example.

Looks like the May 13 CA BPPE licensing workshops (leading to accreditation), in Sacramento, is cancelled.

May explore including in a draft to MIT's Rafael Reif something about monies for BPPE and WASC senior, annually.

There are these new videos however, I've just seen -
" The Bureau is proud to present our new video which aims to guide prospective licensees through the application process for Approval to Operate for an Institution Non Accredited. Check it out! https://bppe.ca.gov/schools/comp_tools.shtml "
https://www.bppe.ca.gov/schools/comp_tools.shtml
https://twitter.com/CaBPPE/status/1181947133076705280?s=20

... which should suffice in lieu of a workshop on May 13, if we have the money.

Minutes are almost done, as are the now 15 planned WUaS Revenue streams, but still am planning to update the WUaS Corp Business Plan

WUaS Minutes

15 planned WUaS revenue streams - both wings - April 2020 - Updated

WUaS Corp Business Plan

How could people best first hear about World Univ & Sch this spring through edX first (per a "Hear it here first" email that just came in from edX)? Perhaps by offering their MIT OCW > MITx courses for matriculating WUaS undergraduate students? With MIT Rafael Reif's encouragement too?
Hoping you have a good Sunday and week!

Sincerely, Scott
