Greetings from the SF Bay Area's East Bay, having become a member of the RSOF in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2004, first started attending unprogrammed Quaker Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in around 1975 or 1976, about an hour and a half away from Olney Friends School Barnesville, OH, (and having transferred my RSOF membership to the SF Quaker Meeting possibly 15 years ago. Great to meet and talk with you Bob (Brockwell) on December 27, 2025 (and see my email to Bob in the PPPPS below), as I was driving west from Xmas in Pittsburgh with my mother, and having been in asylum on the eastern seaboard of the US for 2 1/2 years though December 10, 2024, and in returning to the SF Bay Area (thinking it has become safer, and it has to some degree). I know Lloyd (Guindon - and did you graduate from Olney in 1977?) from Pendle Hill Quaker Center for Study and Contemplation from about 1987-1990, when I was first a student for a year, and then worked in the Pendle Hill Bookstore / Publishers for about 2.5 years, before heading west to the SF Bay Area to study Yoga at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of SF (in a 2 year CA certificate teaching program I completed in a year); it was great to connect with my uncle Bruce MacLeod, a member of Abington Friends' Meeting while in the Wallingford / Media / Swarthmore / Philadelphia area while at Pendle Hill.
I'm writing to you, Christian, and to Olney Friends' School, about Friendly-informed free wiki World University and School building on MIT OCW in 7 languages, and planned in Swahili, and in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya, for free WUaS degrees online from home, in Swahili, with many STEM WUaS degrees. (WUaS is also planned in each of all 200 countries online, and in their main languages for free online WUaS degrees from home). And WUaS is accrediting, and would seek to offer our free WUaS degrees online from home to Olney graduates especially too.
A Friendly Quaker query :
How best to grow free World University and School in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya and in Swahili and with a significant STEM focus emerging from WUaS building on MIT OCW in 7 languages - https://opencw.aprende.org/courses/translated-courses/? How best to begin to offer free online WUaS Bachelor, PhD, Law, MD, IB high sch / similar, AA/AS and Master's degrees in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya and in Swahili ? And how best to grow WUaS free schools in all the languages in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya in these languages and for people-to-people wiki-teaching and wiki-learning and as WUaS develops free universal education wiki, MIT, and highest quality in Swahili regions?
Christian, how best to communicate further about this too? I recently updated the beginning Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya WUaS universities (in the PS below), and the Swahili language wiki subjects / schools. from which major online world class WUaS teaching and research universities will emerge (in all 200 countries and in all 7159 living language), but the Swahili language wiki subject page is not yet in the Swahili language for example, and WUaS seeks to grow too potentially from these countries and in communication with Tanzanians, Ugandans, and Kenyans and related people there. IN the PS a and in some TwitterX posts, I inquire about the Quaker Yearly Meetings in these countries, and contacting them, but WUaS is also in a #GrowWithGoogleWUaS program (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2026/03/ypsilopus-zimbabweensis-orchid-great-to.html - and potentially in communication with James Manyika a Senior Vice President at Google-Alphabet, who is a Zimbabwean-American - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Manyika & https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesmanyika/) and is exploring growing in Swahili and in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya independently of these Yearly Meetings too ... and potentially in a #RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM (and think Google Street View with time slider, GMaps, GEarth, TensorFlow AI Gemini AI and at the GCellView and GMoleculeView levels too).
Christian, I noticed that you may have been Executive Secretary of UNAS, The Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) as recently as around 2022 ... Is this the case? And might MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch somehow develop in collaboration with UNAS in Uganda - with WUaS's science and STEM focus, and in Swahili, and in Tanzania and Kenya too?
I'll bring these questions to the World Univ & Sch WUaS Weekly Business Meeting this Monday April 6 2026 at 10 am Pacific Time, 1 pm Eastern Time, for further consideration. Christian, Bob and Lloyd, might you like to join this open WUaS Weekly Business Meeting (loosely conducted in the manner of Friends), or meet online at another time?
universities taught in Swahili in Tanzania Kenya Uganda?
Key universities teaching Swahili in East Africa include the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) in Tanzania, Kenyatta University in Kenya, and Makerere University in Uganda, which offer comprehensive Kiswahili studies, research, and linguistics programs. These institutions serve as primary hubs for both local and international students focusing on Swahili studies.
Tanzania (Center of Swahili Studies)
University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM): Houses the Institute of Kiswahili Studies (IKS), known for B.A. and postgraduate programs in Kiswahili linguistics, literature, and research.
State University of Zanzibar (SUZA): Hosts the Institute of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages (Taasisi ya Kiswahili na Lugha za Kigeni), a key site for intensive language training in Stone Town.
Kenyatta University: Offers comprehensive Kiswahili programs, often hosting international students for study-abroad terms.
University of Nairobi: Provides extensive study in Swahili linguistics and literature.
Uganda (Regional Expansion)
Makerere University: Known for training Swahili teachers and offering specialized language studies.
These institutions also facilitate cultural immersion and are popular locations for international researchers and academic programs as highlighted by Go Overseas
Friendly greetings! Very nice to meet you Bob at Olney Friends' School on Saturday December 27, 2025 (as I was passing through from Pittsburgh, PA, where I first started to attend Quaker Meeting in around 1975 or 1976, and in returning to the SF Bay Area near Berkeley), near the Stillwater Friends Meetinghouse. (I was a student at Pendle Hill Quaker Center for Study and Contemplation in 1987-1988, and worked in the Pendle Hill bookstore / Publishing house for about 2.5 years following this - where I know Lloyd Guindon from - before returning to the SF Bay Area to study Yoga at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of SF, where I completed a 2 year state of California teaching certificate in a year; I also have a Bachelor's degree from Reed College in Portland OR, in Religion (and German), a Master's Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a DR from the University of Edinburgh).
And glad to share with you too about Friendly-informed wiki (for people-to-people idea sharing) World University and School, like Wikipedia in 342 languages, and building upon MIT OpenCourseWare in ~7 languages. While WUaS isn't yet accredited yet for free online WUaS degrees - Bachelor, PhD, Law, MD, IB high school/ similar, AA / AS and Master's degrees are planned, and in all 200 countries and in 7159 living languages if helpful - I hope free-to-students' MIT OCW-centric World University and School - in a #GrowWithGoogleWUaS program - will be of help to Olney Friends' School, and students, and re college counselors, and for all Friends' Schools, eg from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School (accessible from https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects and see too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends).
More later, and will add you to the open WUaS Weekly Business Meeting emailings ...
Friendly regards,
Scott
