Hi Traci (and Laura),

Thanks so much for your email, and thank you for coming and hosting this Friends General Conference / FGC event at Laura's in Berkeley for SF Bay Area Quakers. (I blogged about this here - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/03/commelina-communis-friends-general.html)

I hope you also had a good vacation as well afterward. (I just reached out over the weekend to 3 British Quaker Members of Parliament re Friendly-informed World University and School - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/03/cupuacu-techcom-rfc-review-wuas-has.html and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/03/amblyopsis-rosae-worldunivandschs.html - partly via the NtF email list).

I don't have plans to attend FGC this year; if Walter or you, however, might attend and could host a "Quaker Colleges' Event," that would be great. While World University and School has about xxx in the WUaS bank account, I could inquire with our Treasurer, L.V. (in P, P.) (who is also the Chair of the Board) about your sending any receipts to him to cover expenses for this. If Friendly-informed WUaS could get 10 or 100 Quaker students online (both attending the FGC Gathering and in its wider community, and both in and out of the US) to matriculate in August 2018, that would be really great. Having gone to FGC in 2012 in Rhode Island, with which Larry was in agreement - i.e. this was an agenda item in our electronically-mediated WUaS Monthly Business Meeting (loosely in the manner of Friends/Quakers) in which you are welcome to participate - and since I hosted a World Univ and Sch table (12 inches of one) at FGC, it seems like the wider FGC community, approached well (I think you and Walter, Chris and Robin would have great ideas for this - what are and have been the pathways from the Quaker world into Haverford and Swarthmore?), would see the benefits of online, accrediting free CC-4 MIT OCW-centric college education for their young adults. (Please remember that these young adults would be living at home, or on their own for 4 years, since WUaS doesn't have a physical campus, and who might benefit from some online "shepherding/care." They'd also be taking about 40 courses for free MIT OCW-centric WUaS Bachelor degrees; WUaS would also explore the possibility of transfer students FGC matriculating online at WUaS). Perhaps even Henry M., Chris and Robin, could help with this, since he now attends Haverford, and is only a year or 2 older than seniors in high school? WUaS is eventually planning to offer online Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, M.D. degrees as well as I.B. high school diplomas - and online in all ~200 countries' official languages ... potentially helping many f/Friends/Quakers.

I look forward to hearing about your thoughts in these regards; I'd be especially interested in exploring potential questions of development with regard to FGC, Quaker students+, and World University and School. (As I mentioned at your FGC gathering at Laura's, the Ramallah Friends Schools / RFS, which is I.B., Quaker, taught in Arabic and English, and is one of the best high schools in the Middle East to which many families in other countries there send their kids is a great model here. Many of these young adults also go on to colleges in the US. And FUM / Friends United Meeting's role in relationship with RFS for over a century, and potentially re FGC / Friends General Conference's role in collaboration with WUaS, might offer interesting development avenues here; please remember that CC-4 MIT OCW, while a kind of gold mine or motherlode, is non-commercial (but does allow for sharing and adapting), so WUaS can't ask for tuition, but WUaS is planning to seek reimbursement from governments and agencies at the nation state, federal and local levels - eventually in all ~200 countries' languages - which is ok with MIT OCW. And this could be a great way to reach out to and grow un-programmed liberal Friends/Quakers / the wider FGC community). Thank you.

Friendly regards, Scott

lessons from yoga for westerners? meditation is beneficial (& warm water deepens the releasing). what is this "ecology" of inner releasing action neurophysiology re the human body as an ecosystem? Hoping my yoga blog label will explore this further soon https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Yoga … ~

The human body is also an ecosystem. There are trillions tiny organisms living in and on it. These organisms are known as microbes and include bacteria, viruses, and fungi. ... There is no other ecosystem like your body.

I'd posit that this "ecology" has something to do with people being human primates ... and living in cultures, and that body mind's benefit from meditation / inner releasing action ... relative to the symbolic "earth house holds" (another word for ecosystem) of living in modernity and newly with the internet ...

So what about an ecology of goodness here? If people cultivate centering in their lives, which for example Quakers do in Friends' Meeting - and like Friends/Quakers who witness conscientiously to what's right as activists for peace and social justice, and potentially what's legal if just - perhaps they / we as group can navigate the stresses of conflictual modernity / internetity (information age) with a kind of new understanding of inner body ecology which includes a kind of easing that leads to a kind of morality {thinking Taoism here as well ... where non-action or "wu wei" can lead to a kind of virtuous action} ...

Inner ecology re Yoga? let's study this with science / STEM ... and even brain wave headsets at a virtual Harbin from a bath tub, and at the cellular and atomic levels eventually? :)

Hi T,

Thanks for your email. I may seek to reach out to W. I continue to be curious about how a Quaker/Friendly Haverford (high achieving academically) could emerge online around a CC-4 MIT OCW curriculum - and for Ph.D. Law, M.D. and I.B. high school diplomas in all ~200 countries' main languages, in addition to Bachelor degrees. (Blogged a bit about this here too -
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/03/theobroma-cacao-world-univ-sch-and.html).

Let's meet for tea next time you're in the SF Bay Area, or I'm in the Philadelphia area.

Thanks,
Scott
