Hi M,

Your email came when I was in the amazingly beautiful Stanford Memorial Church listening to yet another very beautiful concert - Stanford Baroque Soloists: 17th Century German Masters - The Wild West of Western Music ... https://events.stanford.edu/events/817/81741/ -  under the guidance of Anthony Martin ... This ensemble of Stanford students more than any other musical group there I can think of, consistently makes very lovely music. Claire Xue on violin particularly made the music fill the space above and all around - wow.

So glad you're making music with your recorder group (having left the flute behind for the time being :) ... You may well play beautiful Baroque recorder music in the vein of Arcangelo Corelli's - https://youtu.be/0RzxzTmIpyc - but am curious whether you'd ever explore blues' recorder (if not blues' flute:) ...

https://youtu.be/0RzxzTmIpyc -

Seeking to play a bit with a metronome, and daily from home socially though (so in a Google Hangout?), ... as I develop my Scottish small piping CD ... and find a way between a perfection-focus, a vision of playing technically  perfectly, and, say, this High Level Ranters' album of 1964 highlighting Northumbrian piping - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1101004484019277824 - and possibly from a folk ethnomusicology perspective containing much more re northern British Isle's musical idioms +++ - and creating my own moving music (Grateful Dead made lots of mistakes from some perspectives, for example, but I also listen to them among the most because their music is moving, by way of comparison:). Re playing and listening to moving music (which I do a lot on internet streaming radio channels these days - and re 'folk' music), one way of saying the above is I think I'm seeking to develop not classical music approach to this piping CD (and I'm not planning on playing any Piobaireachd on this), but rather a musically MOVING kind of folk approach.

& re ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/gobies-scott-macleods-honey-in-bag-cd.html ...

Are you able to go walking today re snow?  Thanks again for your email. And I hope your weekend goes swimmingly (if the snow melts :).

L, Scott

P.S. Am suggesting that Harbin Hot Springs, and Lake County, even in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, were a bit like the wild wild west touched on in Anthony Martin's concert title above ... culturally (a different world re 'norms' too) .. and even more so in the 1960s and '70s ... and it takes a shift in understanding to comprehend this (and am hoping we can co-create this in a realistic virtual Harbin for ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy as well) ....

"a Northumbian traditional musical group founded in 1964, best known for being one of the first bands in the revival of the Northumbrian smallpipes" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_High_Level_Ranters … > https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Northumbrian_smallpipes … ~@WorldUnivAndSch ~

Although the 'The High Level Ranters - Ranting Lads' above is interesting ethnomusicologically, I much prefer musically the bagpiping music in yesterday's post here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/gobies-scott-macleods-honey-in-bag-cd.html - as inspiring, musical, lyrical, and music I'd like to come into 'conversation' with in creating a new Scottish small piping CD I'm tentatively entitling "Honey in the Bag".
