Dear Larry,

Another interesting aspect about the Modesto Public High School's International Baccalaureate IB degree  - https://mhs.mcs4kids.com/students/programs/international-baccalaureate - is that it's probably free to students, dovetailing with WUaS's CC-4 MIT OCW-centric free-to-students' degrees' focus.

And although WUaS may first license with CA's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education BPPE for online Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees, first in English, and would therefore be considered a private university in US terms, WUaS could also conceivably collaborate somehow with CA public schools at the high school level - and to offer the IB degree online, first in English - and thereby offer the IB degree online.

And if this were possible, then the state of California could help design the online information technologies to make the IB degree online real, and for STEM subjects especially.

Please remember that the Quaker woman I talked with some years ago near the Berkeley Friends' Meeting House, who taught in Quaker/Friends' and IB schools in Maryland (another synergy that already exists in the IB world), said that the IB at its minimum is 3 lower level classes and 3 upper level high school classes.

And I think that the IB degree offers academic and intellectual opportunities to students that might not exist otherwise in a public high school, that it's therefore a standard, that it's known all over the world, and that it's already in multiple languages.

Am not sure where the IB stands in going online with its related Pamoja Foundation, but the above collaborations suggest that collaborations here are possible too, such as between WUaS / state of CA / and Pamoja, for example. Look, just found some already existing online IB courses - https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/dp-online/diploma-programme-courses-online/ - via Pamoja. Let's connect state of CA with Pamoja through WUaS!

And WUaS might get a lot of our high school graduates into great universities (eg Harvard / MIT / Stanford ), compared to building something just from MIT OCW High School resources - https://ocw-origin.odl.mit.edu/high-school/ ...

Sincerely, Scott

See, again:

Dear Larry,

1) Glad to see that Ashish Thakur is going to an IB high school - in Modesto, CA, which is a Public High School - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1190334557523828736 (see my Tweet text below re this) - so the CA govt in Sacramento presumably might have a licensing or similar relationship with Modesto High School and re it being IB as well - and CA could conceivably develop a similar relationship with WUaS, only we'd like to develop our IB High Schools online (and WUaS is licensing with BPPE, so as a private school). Ashish is a high achieving Calif high school student and scientist who may be heading to a great college, and I think his sister is a Harvard undergraduate already. And I think both of his parents may be MDs.

Excited Ashish @kids_who_code to see that your California high school is International Baccalaureate  https://mhs.mcs4kids.com/students/programs/international-baccalaureate & public!

He's also engaged World Univ & Sch much in Tweets recently.

2) And he's published 2 scientific papers in his junior year of high school -

3) And I've invited him here to participate in a Monday morning WUaS Q & A and News in a Hangout, but he may be in school - then

https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1191500067003195392 .

(Text: Thanks Ashish @ashisht1122 @kids_who_code @Edu2EradDMII for your great
@WorldUnivAndSch Tweets! Would you like to join a WUaS Monday 10 am Hangout (with @Peter_Bothe) to brainstorm about your College applications & re https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School & in #RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM?

4) Looks like he could have a whole class full of fellow students on their trip to China -

https://twitter.com/ashisht1122/status/1192293802335260672 - who could possibly be interested!

Am curious to build on, at WUaS IB high school, Ashish's Modesto IB HS relationship with the state of CA eventually. And it would be fascinating if he chose WUaS for college.

Sincerely, Scott

Here are some of the online IB International Baccalaureate courses they offer:
https://pamojaeducation.com/programmes/international-baccalaureate/
https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/dp-online/diploma-programme-courses-online/

Diploma Programme courses online

Online courses delivered by Pamoja Education are developed under the IB’s rigorous quality assurance standards, cover the same course content and prepare students for the same assessments as a traditional face-to-face IB Diploma Programme course.

DP courses currently available online*

Language acquisitionIndividuals and societiesMathematicsThe artsDiploma coreStudies in language and literature

Film SL
* The full Diploma Programme cannot be completed online, only select DP courses are available for online study.
Diploma Programme courses online:
  • are two years in duration
  • follow IB course guides
  • meet IB course requirements
  • are formally assessed in the same way as face-to-face courses
  • are taught in accordance with The Diploma Programme: From principles into practice
  • embed theory of knowledge (TOK) into the courses
  • feature practice examinations to prepare students for IB external examinations
  • are taught by experienced IB teachers, who have special training in online pedagogy
  • require approximately the same amount of study time as face-to-face higher and standard level courses.
Empowering the learner is a key feature of the online courses. In online classrooms of approximately 25 students from around the world, teachers introduce weekly lessons, guide discussion and provide feedback to stimulate critical thinking and promote “lifelong learning” habits. IB Diploma Programme courses online offer a truly international, interactive model of teaching and learning.

These IB courses could become even more high quality, as well as interesting

in a realistic virtual earth for learning ...

if WUaS could dovetail CC-4 MIT OCW High School courses with this ...

if WUaS could develop Chemistry, Physics and Biology IB courses in realistic virtual earth for learning, from home ...

Glad Ashish Thakur just Tweeted to the great Anthropologist Nick Seaver (in response to Nick's Tweet - https://twitter.com/npseaver/status/1192835166915506176
"Nick Seaver @npseaver "Anyone have a PDF of Healy’s “Cyberspace and Place: The Internet as Middle Landscape on the Electronic Frontier”?"), and World University and School, that as a high school student he's published a book on Diabetes Mellitus 2 (DM2), which has now been translated into Spanish, Hmong and Chinese, the communities that suffer the most from this:
