Many countries' central banks would probably accept robust Google infrastructure NODES, I'd think ... if after being set up, if it all worked, and was secure etc and could even end poverty for example through Universal Basic Income experiments.

Each coin has got a mainnet but tokens that are pegged to a coin shares the mainnet. There is a difference between the two.

There is a difference between the two." . . . I did however look up "Stanford Mine Pi" and blockchain - which I think is a KEY to understanding cryptocurrencies - and found: 

"As with other public blockchains, the Pi blockchain will allow external wallets to hold Pi coins and transact with them by submitting transactions directly to the blockchain."


Thanks too for the links to what Bitcoin can apparently do - e.g. buy things from these companies, and the way one could pay for things too; Stanford Mine Pi doesn't have anything comparable. 


In the academic course I teach about information technology and its history and how it works (as a Manuel Castells' Castellian) - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - the internet is a distributed system of networks, infinitely extensible by adding new nodes (eg devices such as smartphones, or supercomputers etc.) ... and as such, I'm not clear how a 'mainnet' would work. Blockchain ledgers - which are part of cryptocurrencies - work in ways you can find here -
