picture of photons

We've already found that people can see flashes of about 30 photons, and we think only three of those photons actually make it to the retina on average.

*

Why can't we see photons?

In order to see a photon in the same way you see a chair, you would have to have a bunch of photons bounce off of the one photon you are trying to "see" and then have this bunch enter your eye. However, photons never directly bounce off of each other, so this could never work.Sep 3, 2015

Dear Nandini - "celebrating International Mother Language Day" in Pgh W 2/21/24

Dear Nandini (and Sati, Mainak and Mazumdars all), All,

Very nice to meet you at the "celebrating International Mother Language Day" in Pgh W 2/21/24 - and great to learn that you, as a Point Park University professor of dance, and Mrs. Mazumdar, an emeritus Univ Pitt professor of biostatistics and public health (like Mr. Mazumder is an emeritus professor of engineering I think at UPitt), know each other well.

About MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch, planned in the Bengali language (which is many of your mother's tongues) -

I thought there was a Classical Indian Dance wiki subject or school at MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch for open teaching and learning, but only find https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Classical_Indian_Music (and there's a Raga wiki subject and some further related wiki subjects too). Let's explore wiki-making, with time, a WUaS Classical Indian Dance wiki subject or school not only in English but also in the Bengali language, as well as in Hindi too (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Dance).  World Univ & Sch wiki is a work in progress. Thoughts, questions, ideas, suggestions for this, as WUaS grows with Large Language Models generative conversational AI ?

See too the Bengali wiki school or subject - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Bengali_/_Bangla_language (planned in Bangla) (from https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages) for free MIT OCW-centric WUaS degrees from Bangla students' speakers' homes.

Best wishes, Namaste, thanks,
Scott GK MacLeod

and perhaps I'll meet some prospective students for MIT OCW_centric Wiki World Univ & Sch interested in studying at WUaS in non-English languages even ... or similar ...

Then back to continue writing "Society, Information Technology, and the Global University" (Academic Press at World Univ & Sch 2024)

There is light at the end of the tunnel, and see the PPS below ...

Fondly, abolitionally (and see the PPPS below a mapper's 'slave' Tweet), best regards,

Dear Michelle King,

Very nice to meet you at the "celebrating International Mother Language Day" today in Pgh W 2/21/24 and thanks for organizing this.

More later, and in an email to the Classical INDIAN dancer Nandini whom I met there today as well, about how MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch works. WUaS is planned in all 7168 known living languages as wiki schools for open teaching and learning (and as Large Language Models generative conversational AI as well) from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages. WUaS is also planning online MIT OCW-centric free WUaS degrees in all ~200 countries and in their main languages - as WUaS accredits with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education with offices in the greater Philadelphia area (and has received authorization from the state of PA's department of education with authorization for this too).

Let's stay in touch about possible careers for your International Mother Language Day participants for example with time. I'll add you to the World Univ & Sch Monday News and Q&As' emailings.

Best wishes, (in asylum on the eastern seaboard of the USA from the SF Bay Area, as I hope that US federal and states' laws begin to work effectively together ... such that I can move to a 2024-205 Stanford Law CodeX Fellowship position which I've applied for), thanks,
Scott GK MacLeod

Indonesia is the world’s third most populous democracy. Indonesians will vote to elect a president, vice-president, and national and local legislators on 14 February in the world’s largest election held on a single day. If none of the three presidential candidates receives more than half of the total popular vote, the two with the most votes will compete in a second round on 26 June. Leading in the polls is Indonesia’s current minister of defense and former army general Prabowo Subianto. Implicated in human rights violations, he was dishonorably discharged from the military in 1998 and later denied entry into the US, a ban lifted in 2020. Opposing him are Ganjar Pranowo and Anies Baswedan, former governors of Central Java and Jakarta, respectively, and both younger than Prabowo. The panel will discuss the impact of the election on Indonesia’s democracy and the country’s domestic and foreign policies going forward.

Thanks much for this conversation about the recent Indonesian elections. Regarding the economic and political arguments, is there any communication or consideration of a single possible main worldwide cryptocurrency, such as Stanford Mine Pi cryptocurrency (https://minepi.com/sgkmac) in the Indonesian government circles or media pre-elections? And what kind of influence would  former army general Prabowo Subianto have, do you think, in Indonesia regarding possibly adopting or even the Indonesian central bank purchasing such a potential single main worldwide cryptocurrency - if taxation came under the President's office?
Thanks, Scott GK MacLeod (MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch, and planning a free-to-students' MIT OCW-centric wiki Indonesia World Univ & Sch online - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Indonesia - in Indonesian, for ALL Indonesians, and for free online WUaS degrees, and regarding your technocratization argument).

Re Prabowo's international orientation, do you think Prabowo would seek companies’ investing and setting up foreign businesses in Indonesia on Indonesian soil, or in Indonesian cyberspace (re technocratization)?
