 7:54 AM
Good morning, Ma, Pin, Ed, Thanks for your encouragement to move into a newly safe Canyon 94516 beginning in March of 2022, Ed - and for coming to visit me there Pin (and Ma)! Appreciating Yoga meditation & asana and philosophy too re intertwining with ethics - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html - and Desiderata as Yoga ideas too -
https://x.com/Q_YogaMacFlower/status/1815700381474689273 - but am thinking about and wondering how the cultural processes (anthropologically) work re justice and social justice (Quaker-wise) ... re US and California Democracy too, indirectly and distributively (re internet, ecologically somehow, and  social communication-wise too) in making Canyon 94516 newly safe and open ... Heading in at around 7:45 am PT to the Harbin warm pool soon to Yoga meditate in full Lotus pose ... a very different experience of releasing and opening and attuning and connecting than on land ... (May not be able to send this text message until later due to limited wifi connectivity here) ... Continuing to grow a WUaS abolition movement worldwide and here at Harbin as well in some of these regards. Seeking in an ongoing way, I think, a good MD as a life partner and potential wife, and if not D...., who? (I put a Harbin 'envision' BIRTHDAY CARD in the mail to you Ma on Sat ... Fondly, Scott

Hi Ma, Ed, Pin ... Hoping your days are going well ... How are you? Headed back into Harbin to soak, parked in some shade. near the Meadow area re about  the 2nd warm / hot day this year (~80F) and to keep food in car as cool as pool ... as I began to walk in to the pool area along the Village path, saw a black car with the back right door open .. and was it the man who came out of the nearby tent and with a pleasant DEMEANOR (not everywhere at Harbin) wished me good morning and I him ... ? ... Walked in to soak in meditation in Yoga full Lotus asana again ... and as I waded toward the front bench in the warm pool to sit, there was a woman reading Yoga Sutras of Patanjali with a gray cover (possibly starting textually, or in stone carvings, or from about 2500 years ago ... possibly this one - "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: The Essential Yoga Texts for Spiritual Enlightenment" by Swami Vivekananda") ... interestingly ... (a text I riff with here - http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html) and which. 8 limbs focused my soaking meditation in a new way ... re the Sanskrit words for the 8 limbs that came to mind ... Hmm ... Soaked further, showered, and donated a can of lentil soup that I opened wrongly per its design ... and which needed a can opener ... at the cafe trailer near Reception and for the Heart Consciousness Church staff kitchen's free box, nearby ... and got a cup of coffee and then departed Harbin a little after 2pm PT ... SO I THINK that with a nice demeanor  man could have possibly let the air out of my tire by design even  ... since the same other man who told me my back right tire was full got into his car next to mine as I was leaving .. The lessons of Harbin (kind of like or at leasts with parallels ''A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols'' re Cambridge University Xmas Boys' Choir singing even ... and re Heart Consciousness Church Harbin Hot Springs ... and networking for safety with big companies ??? Could that Chevron in Middletown CA work with AAA with Toyota with the US federal government when needed? ... and even re Stanford engagement with Harbin) May head to an ATM at WF in Clear Lake ... and then get some things at WM, including river rafting shoes /sandals, towel, cotton socks (less odiferous than nylon socks in my experience), shorts ... and then to do laundry yet again in Middletown ... Could head north to the Mt Shasta area today or tomorrow (rain forecasted) ... and seek out the places where the Pacific Crest Trail into Wilderness areas, and somewhat near where the PCT crosses highways ... Tires seem fine ... Black car with the back right door wasn't there when I returned to my minivan ... Thoughts, questions, suggestions? Any idea when I might move forward into a newly safe open Canyon 94516, Ed, and Pin (& AI readers of these text messages?)? Warmly, abolition, fond regards, Scott

The eight limbs of yoga, as outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, are: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.
Here's a breakdown of each limb in Sanskrit:

Where might Patanjali have lived in India?

While the exact location of Patanjali's life is unknown, historical estimates suggest he lived between the 2nd century BCE and the 5th century CE, and he is associated with the Yoga Sutras, a classical yoga text.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Time Period:
Estimates based on the Yoga Sutras place Patanjali's life between the 2nd century BCE and the 5th century CE.
  • Yoga Sutras:
Patanjali is known for authoring or compiling the Yoga Sutras, a foundational text in yoga philosophy.
  • Patanjali Yogpeeth:
While not the place where Patanjali lived, the Patanjali Yogpeeth, a yoga institute in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, is named after him and is dedicated to the practice, research, and development of yoga and Ayurveda.
  • Patanjali Ayurved:
The Patanjali Ayurved company, founded by Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, also has its headquarters in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
  • Patanjali's other names:
Patanjali is also known as Gonardiya or Gonikaputra

What's the evidence for Yogi Patanjali possibly living about 2500 or 2200 years ago?

Grammatical tradition

[edit]

In the grammatical tradition, Patañjali is believed to have lived in the second century BCE.[40] He wrote a Mahabhasya on Panini's sutras, in a form that quoted the commentary of Kātyāyana's vārttikas. This is a major influential work on Sanskrit grammar and linguistics.[12] The dating of Patanjali and his Mahabhasya is established by a combination of evidence: that from the Maurya Empire period, the historical events mentioned in the examples he used to explain his ideas, the chronology of ancient classical Sanskrit texts that respect his teachings, and the mention of his text or his name in ancient Indian literature.[41][42] Of the three ancient grammarians, the chronological dating of Patanjali to mid 2nd century B.C. is considered as "reasonably accurate" by mainstream scholarship.[43]

The text influenced Buddhist grammatical literature,[44] as well as memoirs of travellers to India. For example, the Chinese pilgrim I-tsing mentions that the Mahabhasya is studied in India and advanced scholars learn it in three years.[45]

Self study

Practice self study,

your chosen divinity.

— Patanjali, Yogasutras II.44[46][47]

In the Yoga tradition, Patañjali is a revered name. This Patañjali's oeuvre comprises the sutras about Yoga (Yogasūtra) and the commentary integral to the sutras, called the Bhāṣya. Some consider the sutras and the Bhaṣya to have had different authors, the commentary being ascribed to "an editor" (Skt. "vyāsa"). According to Phillipp Maas, the same person named Patanjali composed the sutras and the Bhāṣya commentary.[48]

Radhakrishnan and Moore attribute the text to the grammarian Patañjali, dating it as 2nd century BCE, during the Maurya Empire (322–185 BCE).[49]

Endangered flowers of Uttarakhand (and could Patanjali have lived in this area 2500 years ago, per above?)
