How do I migrate my home page - scottmacleod.com - to Google Sites (e.g. from GoDaddy / Hostway / Hostsave / Gate.com) ... AND cool artificial intelligence chat bot suggestions from Google AI in the * * * * ?

1:58 pm (from the nearby Claremont Public Library in Berkeley)

Dear Kelsey,

Thanks again for your ideas in this migration of web sites ... Some further thoughts and brainstorming ...

1
In that I couldn't seem to get into my DNS settings in GoDaddy / Hostway / Hostsave / Gate.com website hosting ... I think I'm going to wait for #GrowWithGoogleWUaS further ...

2
Brainstorming, how about just a single workshop class - 1-3 hours long - on how to build a beginning website with Google Sites - https://sites.google.com/ -  taught by a Google Sites' expert eg with header and footer (AND then maybe further workshops how to publish it live on the web by getting one's own domain name for example?

3
It's a great idea to focus MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch free Bachelor or AA degrees to Berkeley High School students ... potentially coming into the BPL computer laboratory, with a Berkeley High teacher, for an introduction to WUaS, as soon as WUaS is accredited and can further develop our first term's courses for these undergraduate degrees. Thanks!

Migrating scottmacleod.com to Google Sites from GoDaddy: a YouTube video guide
To migrate your website, scottmacleod.com, from GoDaddy to a new Google Site and connect the domain, you'll need to follow a series of steps involving both your Google Site settings and your GoDaddy DNS settings. Several YouTube videos provide step-by-step guidance for this process:
  • Connecting GoDaddy Domain with Google Sites: This video offers a walkthrough on how to connect your GoDaddy domain to your Google Site, covering the necessary DNS record changes.
  • How To Connect Google Sites To GoDaddy Custom Domain: This tutorial focuses specifically on the process of connecting a custom domain (purchased from GoDaddy) to a Google Site.
  • How to Connect a GoDaddy Domain to Google Sites (2025): This video provides a more recent guide on linking your GoDaddy domain to Google Sites, possibly reflecting any updates to the process.
General steps involved
While the videos provide detailed instructions, here's a summary of the general steps involved:
  1. Create your Google Site: Design and build your website on Google Sites.
  2. Access custom domain settings in Google Sites: Go to the settings of your Google Site, select "Custom domains", and initiate the setup process.
  3. Verify domain ownership with Google Search Console: You'll be redirected to Google Search Console to prove you own scottmacleod.com.
  4. Add a TXT record to your GoDaddy DNS settings: Google Search Console will provide a TXT record that you need to add to your domain's DNS records in your GoDaddy account.
  5. Verify ownership in Google Search Console: Once the TXT record is added, return to Google Search Console and click "Verify".
  6. Add a CNAME record to your GoDaddy DNS settings: Go back to your GoDaddy account's DNS settings and add a CNAME record that directs to ghs.googlehosted.com.
  7. Publish your Google Site with the custom domain: Complete the setup in Google Sites and publish your website, now accessible through scottmacleod.com
Important: It may take up to 24-48 hours for the DNS changes to fully propagate and your website to be live with the new domain

How do I migrate my home page - scottmacleod.com - to Google Sites particularly my domain registrar (where you registered scottmacleod.com) which I may no longer have access to e.g. in GoDaddy?

Migrating your homepage (scottmacleod.com) to Google Sites, especially without direct access to your domain registrar (GoDaddy in this case)
Migrating your website involves several steps, especially if you no longer have direct access to your GoDaddy account. Here's a breakdown of the process and how to address the access issue:
1. Regaining access to your GoDaddy account
  • Try account recovery: GoDaddy likely has options for recovering access to your account if you've forgotten your login details. This typically involves verifying your identity through email, phone, or other security questions.
  • Contact GoDaddy Support: If standard recovery methods fail, contact GoDaddy's customer support and explain your situation. They may require proof of identity to grant you access.
2. Transferring your domain registration to a new registrar (if necessary)
  • Unlock the domain: Before you can transfer your domain, it needs to be unlocked at your current registrar (GoDaddy). You can usually find this setting within your GoDaddy domain management panel.
  • Obtain the Authorization Code (EPP Code): This code is essential for transferring your domain. You can typically find it within your GoDaddy account settings or request it from GoDaddy support.
  • Choose a new registrar: If you want to transfer your domain from GoDaddy to another registrar (like Google Domains), you'll need to create an account with your desired new registrar.
  • Initiate the transfer: Start the domain transfer process with your new registrar, providing the domain name and the authorization code.
  • Approve the transfer: You will likely receive emails from both GoDaddy and the new registrar asking you to approve the transfer. It's crucial to confirm these requests.
3. Creating your website on Google Sites
  • Create or select a Google Site: If you haven't already, create a new Google Site or select the existing one where you want to host your homepage content.
  • Add your custom domain:
    • In Google Sites, go to Settings ⚙️ > Custom Domains.
    • Click Start Setup and select the option to use a domain from a third party (GoDaddy in your original setup).
    • Enter your domain name (scottmacleod.com).
  • Verify domain ownership: Google will require you to verify domain ownership. This usually involves adding a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings. You'll be provided with specific instructions and the TXT record to add.
  • Add the CNAME record: After verifying ownership, you'll need to add a CNAME record to your DNS settings. This record points your domain to your Google Site.
4. Transferring your website content (images, text, files)
  • Manually recreate your site: Google Sites doesn't offer a direct migration tool. You'll need to copy and paste content, upload images, and recreate the layout and design of your old homepage within the Google Sites editor.
  • Consider migration tools (if applicable): If your old site used a platform with export capabilities, you might be able to export content in a format compatible with Google Sites or use third-party tools to assist in the migration.
Important notes
  • DNS propagation: DNS changes can take some time to propagate across the internet, typically up to 24-48 hours. Your site might not be immediately available after making DNS changes.
  • Test thoroughly: After migration, test your new Google Site to ensure all links work, images display correctly, and your site appears as intended.
  • Back up your old site: Before making any major changes, back up your current website and its content to avoid data loss.
By following these steps, you can migrate your scottmacleod.com homepage to Google Sites, even if you need to regain access to your domain registrar account in the process

How do I migrate my home page - scottmacleod.com - to Google Sites particularly the DNS settings which I may not find easily?

Migrating your homepage (scottmacleod.com) to Google Sites with custom domain
Here's how to migrate your homepage, currently at scottmacleod.com, to Google Sites and properly configure the custom domain:
1. Create your Google Site
2. Initiate custom domain setup
  • In your Google Site editor, click the Settings gear icon (⚙️).
  • Select Custom domains.
  • Click Start Setup.
  • Enter your domain name, scottmacleod.com.
  • Google will likely indicate that your domain is not verified; click the link to Verify your ownership
3. Verify domain ownership (Google Search Console)
  • You will be redirected to the Google Search Console.
  • Choose the Domain property type and click Continue.
  • Follow the instructions for "Any DNS Provider".
  • Copy the TXT record that Google Search Console provides.
  • Open a new browser tab or window and go to your domain registrar (where you registered scottmacleod.com).
  • Log in to your account at your domain registrar.
  • Locate your domain's DNS settings (this might be under sections like "DNS Management", "Name Server Management", or "Advanced Settings").
  • Create a new TXT record.
    • Name/Host: @ (or leave it blank)
    • Record Type: TXT
    • Value/Answer/Destination: Paste the TXT record copied from Google Search Console.
  • Save the changes to your DNS records.
  • Return to the Google Search Console and click Verify.
  • Google will attempt to verify your domain ownership. This might take a few minutes or longer.
4. Add the CNAME record for Google Sites
  • Go back to the Custom Domains settings in your Google Site.
  • Click through the setup steps again. This time, after entering your domain, you should be able to proceed.
  • Note the CNAME record details Google provides – it will typically involve pointing the "www" subdomain to ghs.googlehosted.com. (including the period).
  • Go back to your domain registrar's DNS settings.
  • Add a new CNAME record.
    • Name/Host: www
    • Record Type: CNAME
    • Value/Answer/Destination: ghs.googlehosted.com. (include the trailing period)
  • Save the changes to your DNS records.
5. (Optional) Set up HTTP redirect for the naked domain
  • If you want people who type in scottmacleod.com (without "www") to also reach your Google Site, you'll need to configure a redirect with your domain registrar.
  • Consult your registrar's documentation or support for the specific steps to set up a URL redirect or HTTP redirect.
  • The redirect should point scottmacleod.com to www.scottmacleod.com
6. Publish and wait for propagation
  • Go back to your Google Site editor and click Publish.
  • DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate across the internet, so it may take some time before your custom domain correctly points to your Google Site.
Important notes about DNS settings
  • You don't need A records or IP addresses for Google Sites custom domains, as Google Sites uses subdomains and won't work purely on a naked domain.
  • The CNAME record pointing to ghs.googlehosted.com. is crucial for directing traffic to your Google Site.
  • If you encounter difficulties locating DNS settings, consult your domain registrar's help documentation or suppor

  • Review DNS Records: Ensure there are no conflicting DNS records that might interfere with your Google Sites connection.
  • Domain Registrar Support: Your specific domain registrar may have slightly different steps for editing DNS records. Consult their support documentation if needed

How do I add ai to my home page - scottmacleod.com - as I migrate it to Google Sites (eg from GoDaddy)?

Adding AI features to your Google Sites homepage (scottmacleod.com)
As you migrate your website to Google Sites, you can integrate AI to enhance its functionality. Here are some options:
1. AI-powered chatbots
  • Implement a chatbot: Use a chatbot platform like Elfsight or Common Ninja to provide automated customer support and answer user queries.
  • Benefits: Offer 24/7 support, reduce the workload on your team by handling basic inquiries, personalize customer interactions, and potentially capture leads.
  • Integration:
    1. Choose a chatbot platform and customize the chatbot to fit your needs.
    2. Train the chatbot with your website content, FAQs, or specific knowledge bases.
    3. Copy the generated embed code from the chatbot platform.
    4. In your Google Sites editor, go to the "Insert" tab and select the "Embed" element.
    5. Paste the embed code and click "Insert".
  • Customization: Many platforms offer templates and customization options for design and tone of voice.
2. AI-powered content creation (with caution)
  • Generate website content ideas or drafts: Tools like Gemini can help with creating outlines, drafts, and alternative text for website content.
  • Enhance existing content: AI can refine content, improve readability, and generate images or designs.
  • Important Note: While Google does not penalize AI content specifically, manual action can be taken against websites using spammy, low-quality AI content that offers little value to users. Always edit and customize AI-generated content to ensure it is original, natural-sounding, and helpful to your audience.
  • Compliance: Be aware of Google's guidance on using generative AI content and ensure content meets the standards of the Search Essentials and spam policies.
3. AI for search and user experience
  • Personalized Search: Google's AI in Search offers personalized suggestions based on past searches and can connect with other Google apps like Gmail for even more customized results. This could potentially enhance the user experience for visitors who are signed into their Google accounts while browsing the site.
  • Improved Search Functionality (CogniVis AI): By connecting Google Sites with platforms like CogniVis AI, it is possible to enhance search capabilities and provide more precise search results to users by leveraging AI to understand user intent and context.
4. Considerations during the migration
  • AI website builders (like GoDaddy's AI tools): While migrating from GoDaddy, some AI website builders can generate a website quickly based on business information. However, since specifically migrating to Google Sites, the integration methods above would be more relevant.
Steps for migration and AI integration
  1. Migrate website content to Google Sites.
  2. Explore AI tools and platforms that integrate with Google Sites: Research different chatbot providers, content generation tools, or other AI services that offer embed codes or integrations compatible with Google Sites.
  3. Implement chosen AI features: Follow the instructions provided by the AI tool/platform to generate the necessary code or configure the integration.
  4. Embed the AI element into the Google Sites homepage (or other pages). Use the "Embed" feature in the Google Sites editor.
  5. Test and refine the AI integration to ensure it functions as intended and enhances the user experience.
By carefully planning and implementing AI features, the new Google Sites homepage can be made more interactive, efficient, and user-friendly

Here's a guide to adding AI features to your Google Sites website (scottmacleod.com) after migrating it:
1. Plan your AI integration
  • Define your goals: What specific problems do you want AI to solve on your website? Do you want to generate content, assist visitors with questions, personalize recommendations, or something else?
  • Research AI tools: Explore different AI tools and services that align with your goals. Many AI chatbot services offer free trials, allowing you to test out different options before making a commitment.
  • Consider potential use cases:
    • Chatbots: Offer 24/7 customer support, answer common questions, collect feedback, or provide product recommendations.
    • Content generation: Streamline content creation by using AI to generate text, video clips, or images for your website.
    • Personalized content: Customize content for individual visitors based on their preferences and history.
    • Automated site analytics: Track site traffic patterns, user engagement, and content performance to optimize your website design and content placement.
    • Compliance checks: Scan your site content for compliance with organizational policies or legal regulations.
2. Implement your chosen AI solution
Most AI tools integrate with Google Sites through the "Embed" feature:
  • Obtain the embed code: Once you've selected an AI tool, locate the embed code or script for your chosen AI solution (e.g., from your chatbot provider).
  • Add the embed element in Google Sites: Navigate to your Google Sites website editor, select the "Insert" tab, and choose the "Embed" option.
  • Paste the code: Choose the "Embed code" option and paste the AI tool's embed code into the designated field.
  • Adjust placement: You can customize the chatbot's placement on the page and resize it as needed.
  • Publish your changes: Click the "Publish" button to save your changes and activate the AI feature on your live website.
3. Optimizing for AI Overviews and Search
Google's AI features, such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, aim to provide comprehensive and concise answers to user queries, surfacing relevant links to help people find information quickly and explore content they may not have discovered before. To increase your chances of appearing in these features:
  • Focus on helpful, people-first content: Create clear, concise, and helpful content that answers questions effectively.
  • Structure your content: Use proper formatting like headings, bullet points, and short paragraphs to make your content easy to digest.
  • Optimize for technical SEO: Ensure your website is crawlable and indexable by Google Search and meets technical requirements (e.g., fast loading times, mobile responsiveness).
  • Add keyword-rich FAQs: Include FAQs to address common questions related to your content.
  • Consider adding AI or automation disclosures: Make it clear to readers when AI is part of the content creation process

Proposed Automated LMS for WUAS ... Learning Management System from Rifai at Freedom College in Sri Lanka (southeast of India)

Hi Rifai,

Nice to hear from you after quite a while. I hope this email finds you well too.

I filled out your form and got a certificate too.

I've also attached the Certificate of Completion

to Mwende Evande WUaS Certificate of Completion CS First with Google at World Univ & Sch Spring 2022.pdf

for your reference, but the "CS First with Google at World Unv & Sch" course, learning the Scratch programming language (which interoperates with Lego Spike Prime robotics' kits), has been turned down - https://csfirst.withgoogle.com/s/en/home - so WUaS is no longer offering it.

And as you know, WUaS seeks to offer our free for credit courses by building on and adapting CC-4 licensed MIT OpenCourseWare  - https://ocw.mit.edu/ - in 7 languages - https://opencw.aprende.org/courses/translated-courses/

And WUaS doesn't have any students currently, or applying yet (as WUaS accredits and potentially in collaboration with a #GrowWithGoogleWUaS program, for accreditation, and WUaS Educational Services' Stores for books, computers, robotics, groceries, too).

Here's the Bangladesh World University and School newly in the Bangla language as a start -
https://sites.google.com/view/bdworlduniversityandschool/ - and in Google Sites, in which I'm building WUaS's other website today and migrating toward for AI & ML too.

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks!

Hi ! Hope you are in good health.

I designed a simple LMS in an old domain I had. If you are interested in using this to launch a real course and eventually a degree, please let me know.

You can test it out at freedomuniversity.eu.org/intro.html and provide me a feedback. You simply need to keep track of enrollments and certificate ids for verification purposes. Other than that learning, testing and certificate issuance are all automated.

Rifai
