World Univ & Sch is seeking to begin matriculating undergraduate students
Sun, August 9, 2020
I am hoping a) writing creatively in English, b) studying English literature and c) teaching English as a second language will be part of the upcoming 4-year free-to-students' online CC-4 OCW-centric English Bachelor's degree at WUaS. I hope too this may include using the Scratch programming language - https://twitter.com/LEGO_ Education/status/ 1292460756513034248?s=20 - and Lego robotics even too! How best to begin 'reading' English literature from the computer too while listening to it? Have a look at "Tom Jones" here in particular - https://scott-macleod. blogspot.com/2020/08/malabar- parakeet-bishopton-scotland- dog.html - which can be so funny it may bring tears of mirth to your eyes :)
Friendly regards, Scott
(You'll find some of our recent correspondence here - https://scott-macleod. blogspot.com/2020/08/indian- rose-chestnut-world-univ-sch. html - if that's alright).
World Univ & Sch is waiting until August 14 to hear back from Open edX regarding their invitation to WUaS to work with MOOCit France as a service partner, since WUaS doesn't yet have any (MIT?) graduate student instructors to help adapt the MIT OCW (with MIT professors) into WUaS Open edX.
Regards, Scott

Foreign Policy Engagement with African Artificial Intelligence & Response ...

Dear Kate, and Phillippe,
Thank you for this publication, and your email.
As a Castellian (i.e. Manuel Castells), who some would say theorized the
information technology age (comparable with Weber and Marx), I
contextualize questions about artificial intelligence in the history and
innovations of the internet and computing. Have you read Castells? In
his "The Information Age: Economy, Society and Culture" trilogy,
beginning with "The Rise of the Network Society" (1996), he also focuses
much on questions of feminism (which I note is an interest of yours,
Kate). In your broader thinking, how too do you address the advantages
of hacking AI (as in Pekka Himanens' book "The Hacker Ethic and the
Spirit of the Information Age," - with reference to Max Weber - but
regarding all of the hacking that gave rise to the internet and the
Information Age so incredibly?) Here's a related course I teach in this
field -
http://worlduniversityandschoo l.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobal Univ.html. I
hope to teach this course again this autumn, and perhaps I will give
further explicit thought to AI adn ethics questions toward its close.
For your interest, here's a talk (relating to this course) I did about
The Information Technology Revolution - History and Geography - Scott
MacLeod
https://youtu.be/FJIy6LpZLeI
and this whole series of talks (Castells-informed) addresses ethical
questions -
https://www.youtube.com/playli st?list=PLof6LHEpLfwrYnYlQfwU1 19jDpOwfnZuN
- in a different way than you are, but still might be informative or
helpful.
MIT on Twitter too is developing a significant focus on AI and
anti-racism for example, eg -
https://twitter.com/techreview /status/1291364040510509057?s= 20 .
The history of the internet has been remarkably 'un-policied' I would
also argue, but perhaps your publication is marking a new development in
the history and growth of the Internet - and from a German perspective.
FYI, as the founder and president of CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World
University and School, planning major online universities in all ~200
countries - and especially Africa - and in these ~55 countries' official
languages, if possible WUaS's AI will emerge via a Google platform, with
TensorFlow AI, and potentially with courses on the Open edX platform,
with AI. An academic press - with AI machine translation - is also part
of WUaS's plans.
Would you and some of your Stiftung Neue Verantwortung (SNV)
think tank colleagues - https://www.stiftung-nv.de/en/ team - enjoy
helping to build out World Univ & Sch in Germany in German, and in
Africa perchance, and with AI too, - and regarding ethical AI and human
rights, and in so many other ways? Please wiki-add your publication to
the Human Rights' wiki subject at WUaS -
https://wiki.worlduniversityan dschool.org/wiki/Human_Rights (
https://wiki.worlduniversityan dschool.org/wiki/Subjects ) if inclined.
Freundliche Grüsse (Ich habe ein Jahr lang in München in 1981-1982
studiert (durch ein Reed College / LMU programme), und kann ein bisschen
Deutsch).
And please let me know who we might come further into conversation in
these regards, if helpful.
Kind regards, Scott

Asked in a Stanford talk - https://www.hoover.org/events/liberty-and-federalism -
The Human Prosperity Project Speaker Series: Liberty and Federalism
Searched on “democratic socialism and pew internet research,” found “In Their Own Words: Behind Americans’ Views of ‘Socialism’ and ‘Capitalism’
Socialism’s critics say it weakens work ethic; those with positive views say it fosters equality” - https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2019/10/07/in-their-own-words-behind-americans-views-of-socialism-and-capitalism/ - With regards to this Pew data, how does federalism (the constitution) strengthen the work ethic (the economy), and foster equality (legally)?
