Viola lanceolata: Bluegrass festival in Golden Gate park, Another hippie festival, My goodness ... Lift off ...

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival - Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

Yo, the Golden Gate Park - hardly strictly bluegrass festival ...

another hippie festival in san francisco ...

traveling thru time

*

earl scruggs is playing ... people dancing freely ... a LOT of people ... tweeting ... 'rolling in my sweet baby's arms'

scruggs & company are MOVING forward with the ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL ...

my goodness ...

lift off ...

now landed

*

hardly strictly bluegrass is a free festival. Crowd control has been honed to an art for GG Park festival. Too many cordons in this one, though :)

but they do allow a lot of people to sit

*

Up after Earl Scruggs et al - Doc Watson, then the Del McCoury Band, then EmmyLou Harris ... great musicians :)

*

Special Contra Dance this evening in San Rafael in Marin at 7:30 ... they're fun :)

*

Foggy Mountain Breakdown - a song Scruggs played in 1949 - they're moving deep into the fog now - breaking down ...banjo ... flight ... over

*

'Give a kid an ipod & you make him/her happy for a while. give a kid a banjo (Scruggs) & you make him happy for 70 yrs. Drop the electronics & pick up strings' and make music & happiness with people .... Stage wisdom ?

*

Doc's up - Doc Watson & friends, that is - lives in Deep Gap, NC, Little Sadie, Freight Train - 87 yrs he is ... such fine, soaring, lyrical pickin' - just a series of tones - 3 musicians - but what a series of tones :)

Deep river blues ... 'give me back my old boat, i'm gonna sail, boys, if you let it float..'

Doc's grandson comes up to play with ... 'Tea for Texas, Tea for Tennessee' .. fog is rolling in ... yodeling ... she's got eyes like diamonds ... O, sweet lips

*

Del McCoury band - great vocals and picking ... connecting ...

*

Then, at the end of the Del McCoury band, a bunch more bluegrass musicians come out ... all playing together ... traditional-looking (straight, clean cut, nice bluegrass suits) bluegrass musicians are all in front ...

and, all of a sudden, in the middle of the musics - long-haired, hippie-bluegrass musicians, come forward ... :)

*

Another hippie-cum-bluegrass festival in the park?

Looks like it, this year ...

(I blogged about this last year, too - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2009/10/kentucky-bluegrass-daja-vu-too-in.html:).
