(I was just mentioning Jen Basarab-Tung MD who was singing in the Unitarian Universalist choir in 2006 and 2007 when I was living here in Pgh, and my father was impaired from his two subdural hematomas: she had gone to Cornell, then to Pitt Medical School, her mother is/was a MD in the Harrisburg area, I think, and she met and married a MD last named Tung ... possibly here ... and now Jen is a Stanford anesthesiologist interestingly ... she takes paper tests well, I think I remember her saying too) ... Not sure if they've had any kids ... And I didn't really connect with her in the UU choir, wearing some Bohemian-like clothes ... but just that it's interesting that such attractive high-achieving women MDs come through Pittsburgh on interesting trajectories ...  "substantial" was a word brilliant George Alexander MD used re my seeking a life partner, too, I think ... so not 'airheads' :) ... So where will you be in Western PA? I think I remember your mother (regards to her by the way) is in Oakmont. Near there, then? 


We are all fine. Our big preoccupation right now is Louis, who is in Rajastan, India, working for a nonprofit that teaches disabled people so they can get jobs. He is supposed to find people to hire them. He is well suited to that but there is a big culture gap. And he is disorganized so we are afraid he will
lose his bank card. But I tell myself it will be ok and he is learning a lot. Guess I need to relax.

Alice is about to finish college, Victoria and I are learning the Lindy Hop (surprisingly difficult) and I am studying Arabic. It is hard but I think I can learn if I stick to it. I imagine how cool it would be to take the train from Rome to Sicily and then a ferry to Morocco. Don’t hold your breath for that one.

Congratulations to Alice (and you two too)! Your email is inspiring in a number of ways to me, Henry: maybe it would be fun to learn a new form of dance and to meet a life partner, who could also be a MD to be, for example, and with some Scottish background too .. And to improve my German, with a 22-25 yo German who might be studying at a University in Pittsburgh - ('The best way to learn a language is on a pillow' ??, ... rather than Scottish Gaelic, or French), and whom I might meet possibly through Peter Koehler, a retired Pitt physics' professor, and also former neighbor of my parents' on Juniata, 2 houses away, and now also at Longwood - or possibly online with someone in Germany, and not re pillow learning either. Great to hear from you, and greetings .. How are you?

Greetings! Was just exploring the Sewickley, Pennsylvania, area just west of Pgh, and particularly its Quaker Valley sites, which was its name, and found the following Quaker names: Quaker Valley Middle School, Quaker Valley High School, a Quaker Valley police pickup truck parked in the Quaker Valley high school parking lot, very visibly, "Camp Meeting road,' and similar. I talked with a man on the side of the road whom I had asked regarding the Quaker history in the area, and he said his wife was working on a film on African Americans in the Sewickley area, and I mentioned a #RealisticVirtualEarthForHistory to which they could potentially add this film in some years if interested, and regarding licensing questions too. I also mentioned Brown University library archives as a source for AI data for a realistic virtual earth for history (eg of Quakers from 1683 forward, and of the 1960s and 1970s a time I'm interested in), for example, as well as local historical societies, of which he mentioned there is one in Sewickley. As I also drove into the back woods of Sewickley, I saw the name Leet a couple of times (again) and thought of a  ..... .... .. in the SF Bay Area, affiliated with UCSF, who may be living a wigged out existence possibly too. He also mentioned  that people had built summer homes in Sewickley during the steel mills' time in Pgh to get away from the air pollution. He reminded me of David Thurston a lot. 

And I also just called David Thurston in the DC area, and Ed Smyth MD in the Berkeley area, while I was hiking on a new trail I found, called Devil's Hollow trail in the Sewickley area, and mentioned some of the above. 


Having called for US federal protection recently for myself, my mother around here, and my brother in Maine, I just had an interesting experience while hiking: the trail markers on this Allegheny Land Trust parcel of great woods disappeared, about .5 miles into the hike, and fortunately, I had downloaded the topo maps for this hike while using AllTrails'  and the leaves had fallen for winter ... and I was able to orienteer in a sense easily another 1/4 to 1/3 of a mile to refind the trail. Had some property owner's removed them, I asked, wondering, in the phone messages I left with David Thurston and Ed Smyth (who gave me 'All Trails' App some years ago as a birthday present)? I walked on and I soon spotted what looked like some hunters in the forest, in camouflage, with weapons even, but it was a little difficult to tell from the distance for sure ... and at that time my Stanford Mine Pi cryptocurrency 24 hour reminder to mine it came up ... and newly with sound effects after one mines it for 3-4 Pi coins daily ... of what appears to be a first person shooter game (a surprisingly to me successfully video game format) ... so with rapid fire gunshots going off on my smartphone, and the possible hunters down below, I wondered what to do ... Should I call down to the hunters? Not sure, and still using topo maps for a very poorly marked trail now ... I walked on (and Peter (Norvig), all, how please to turn off these sound effects and gaming scenarios from the Pi Network? ... will look closer too to see if there's an option to turn it off) ... thinking in terms of somehow internet ecology sociocultural (re the karma word) dynamics ... and found, too, some large largely worded No Trespassing signs to my left as I followed the trail down to the parking area. And there the hunters appeared to be: as I walked up the 3 vehicles there, I said to the one on the passenger side ... don't want to surprise you ... and taking off his camouflage jacket and wearing a 12 inch knife by his side, and now a black shirt, he looked like he was about 20, like he and his compatriot had just put their weapons (crossbows, or rifles?) in the back of a sealed black pickup, and were heading on ... and did he say "Oh, ok" or similar, touching his nose, and they pulled out ... but I was able to write down their license plate fortunately I think - ZPT 8516. Were they licensed to carry weapons, (there was a hunters be careful sign posted, and possibly re Allegheny land trust lands, law wise too) ... and were they there also somehow symbolically ... and re even GPS possibly? In asylum on the eastern seaboard, having just signed a year long lease for Pgh, and in a wigged out time, which I've written some about ... read on:

Also texted my mother the other day as I was moving in ... 

"Hi Ma! I signed the lease (ON PAPER I chose to get out of DotLoop), got the keys ... and as I sat meditating this morning, I noticed above the heater, and to the left of the front door, a fuse box, and recalled in the flurry in the office of signing the lease, paying the cashiers check for 10,905.00, and getting the keys, including to a laundry in the Bryant Lofts' Apartments' building with office w blocks away ... and getting to watching the 3 presentations in Stanford Law CodeX about 15 minutes late, I turned on the fuses and the refrigerator turned on I heard ... Also it appears I had hot water yesterday evening too ... (and also intend to sign the water/sewage lease, which I didn't sign yesterday in the hurry to get to Stanford Law CodeX) ... but now need a shower curtain, which I have a new one in storage ... Then a woman and her daughter just came out of the woods, and her daughter who goes to Sewickley academy her mother said, had a young person's BOW AND some ARROWS and in speaking with her for a minute or two I learned that it might be legal to have a bow and arrow with a permit ... but my impression was that her daughter didn't have this.
