Daer Larry, All,

Attached again is the 'Confirmation of Payment' to the state of CA FTB for $2930.98 tax bill for 2018, 2019 and 2020, having just received a first tax bill for this.

Nice to talk to you last night, Larry. With regards to receiving nothing further on paper from the CA Franchise Tax Board in the WUaS Corporation Canyon 94516 PO Box 442 yesterday, and with its Mr. Robert Morgan saying on the phone last week that he at the CA FTB would send something on paper (after also saying to disregard the 3 duplicate, in one way or another, FTB tax bills), I'm wondering whether WUaS Corporation even possibly could begin (sooner than later) listing on the new Silicon Valley long-term stock market and whether this might be a developing conversation at the CA FTB - with a number of different organizations. Might WUaS, brainstorming-wise, even hear about something like this from the CA FTB that would lead to such a possibility by the end of the week - and from a Robert Morgan at the CA FTB, in one way or another? Seems unlikely in that it took 4 years, after incorporation in 2017 to get the 2018, 2019, & 2020 tax bills, and pay $2,930.98 last week, but am hopeful.

Thanks especially for sending in $1500 to the WUaS Corporation, Larry, - and for getting 150 shares of the WUaS Corporation stock. (I also got 293 shares in paying this tax bill). Am seeking for WUaS on both wings to become more cash oriented, so your contribution is especially helpful as a next key step! And I'm wondering if the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the Silicon Valley long-term stock exchange might emerge soon-ish, and whether the WUaS Corporation could use the $1500 you sent in to list the WUaS Corp, with some part of which as a registration fee. Am seeking for the WUaS Corporation to potentially list - in addition to the WUaS Press in 7k languages with machine learning, and its bookstores/cafes, computer stories, robotics' stores, hospital technologies' distribution centers in ~200 countries and in their main languages  - something like Stanford Mine Pi cryptocurrency free money daily (https://minepi.com/sgkmac) as planned revenues (from countries and companies potentially buying Stanford Mine Pi as their central banks' single cryptocurrency, with other cryptocurrencies continuing to trade like NUMISMATICS, old coins, but for the 21st digital century) on the Silicon Valley long-term stock exchange, and in WUaS planning to code for all 7.8 billion people on the planet, each a Wikidata Pin # (and for 7.8 wiki teachers and learners for free universal people to people education too, and see, too, these other reasons - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html).

The open WUaS Monthly Business Meeting is this Saturday at 9am Pacific Time (hour long only) and welcomes all of us further thinking about this - with the above as an emerging agenda and news item.

Grants Innovation ExchangeNew Unique Entity ID (SAM)Thursday, November 18 at 12pm EST

The November Grants Innovation Exchange will feature updates from OMB and the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Integrated Award Environment (IAE) on the new System for Award Management (SAM) Unique Entity ID.  This session is targeted towards the recipient community and we will walk through everything a recipient of Federal awards needs to know in preparation for the transition, including a demo of how to request a new Unique Entity ID (SAM).

By April 4, 2022, the Federal government will transition away from the use of the DUNS Number and toward the new Unique Entity ID as the primary means of entity identification for Federal awards government-wide.  If you are registered in SAM.gov, you’ve already been assigned a new Unique Entity ID!  It’s viewable in your SAM.gov entity registration record.  Go to fsd.gov and select the green Help on UEI Transition button to learn more.

Registration link: https://nov-grants-exch.eventbrite.com

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Zoom Webinar.

Hi Larry and Sid,

World Univ & Sch just received this about 25 minutes ago, from Grants.gov, which WUaS continues to renew our password and login information for, for years now, but curiously this event seems to be sold out -

It looks however like one can view past video recordings - "To view recordings of previous sessions, please visit https://www.cfo.gov/financial-assistance/resources/innovation-exchanges.html," however.

Someone is thinking about World Univ & Sch but I'm not sure who it is. Is it you Sid? :) Thank you if so.

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry and Sid,

Since World University and School and the WUaS Corporation now seem to be having some trouble getting going financially, after about 14 or 15 years, - and observing that this Grants.gov grant opportunity says it's sold out, - whatever all this may mean (ethically too), - am wondering, Larry, whether there might be an opportunity regarding the CA Franchise Tax Board's communications with a number of organizations, hypothetically, and possibly re the WUaS Corporation and the new Silicon Valley Long-term Stock Market as two of these - for WUaS to begin to get going financially and in working with the state of CA. Could the industrial WUaS Corporation then begin to fund and endow chairs in, say, Quantum physics, or Home Robotics, or realistic virtual earth development wiki-studies for tele-robotic surgery, etc., on the Academic Side at World University and School, per an ISSIP workshop idea, which I attended yesterday morning from 9a-12 noon?.

Perhaps we can talk about this further in WUaS Monthly Business Meeting on Saturday as well, Agenda (this too) to come ...

Sincerely, Scott

Thanks, All, for an excellent ISSIP "Industry Best Practices for Skills Screening" workshop just now.

I'm posting the text transcript below for your further consideration.

I didn't notice or see if the 'breakout sessions' from November 10, 2021, if these occurred, were recorded and shared, or not, here -  https://youtu.be/_rK9IANvjQg- from - https://issip.org/events-news/issip-nsf-workshops-2021/. Will the breakout sessions from today, 11/17/21 be posted, by any chance (& possibly please)? Thank you!

All the best, Scott

PS

I'm fascinated that CC-4 OCW.MIT.EDU-centric, wiki 1) World University and School, and its 2) WUaS Corporation, straddle both sides of the Academia-Industry divide, and in planning to hire 2.3 million people (about the size of Walmart), would seek to build out the 'Industry Best Practices for Skills Screening' platforms further for many of the questions we addressed today, with time - and in ~200 countries' major online universities for free-to-students' degrees, and in the main languages, and in ll 7,139 known living languages.

What role, for ISSIP, could Google Workspace for Education play (and regarding CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch, which is in WUaS Workspace for Education)?

from Scott GK MacLeod to Everyone:    9:38  AM

3

What role could CC-4 MIT OCW play, as well, for ISSIP and "Industry Best Practices for Skills Screening," where Creative Commons 4 licensing allows for 1) sharing for free, 2) adapting (transform with AI?), 3) non-commercially - and as World Univ & Sch builds out our wiki side (and especially regarding 'skills' per https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects#Skills), - and in all ~200 countries and in their main languages?

from Kelly Ryan Bailey to Everyone:    9:44  AM

Thanks Scott! I believe we'll be getting into Q&A shortly.

from Scott GK MacLeod to Everyone:    9:48  AM

Great, Kelly, further, what role does a company's culture play in 'bounding' their hiring practices regarding training and universities, and how could this change? (Brainstorming-wise, I have Google's culture and hiring practices, and even its relationship with Stanford, for example).

from Scott GK MacLeod to Everyone:    9:49  AM

... in mind as a reference).

from yassi@issip.org to Everyone:    9:51  AM

@Gonzalo - nice comprehensive programs!  What attributes make a school a target school?

from Martha Russell to Everyone:    9:52  AM

@Gonzalo. What does "industry friendly" mean?

from Kelly Ryan Bailey to Everyone:    9:57  AM

Amazing Gonzalo!

from Jim Spohrer to Everyone:    9:57  AM

https://degreed.com/

from Martha Russell to Everyone:    9:59  AM

The time cycles of feedback loops for skills needs (indusgtry) and curriculum change (education) are not the same. How can they be aligned?

from Mary Crowe to Everyone:    10:00  AM

thanks Gonzalo -it's hard to trial and error with many schools. It would be better if we could ID what schools need to do to be industry friendly would be welcome

from Randy to Everyone:    10:12  AM

Sukanta- You showed statistics indicating 71% of jobs at >40k per year require a bachelors degree; however, your "jobs that count" prioritize non-degree jobs.  Can you speak to this mismatch?

from Terri Griffith to Everyone:    10:30  AM

I think Dave's comment about tools generalizes across industries and jobs. Univ tend to use tools (and software languages) far after industry has moved on.

from Jim Spohrer to Everyone:    10:30  AM

Thanks to all the presenters - my take away: (1) Scaling up the “try before buy” to give students industry experience (UK has a 1% tax, that industry gets back in intern hires), (2) better feedback to job seekers when they apply for a job (intermediaries appearing to fill this role it seems) - “you didn’t get the job, but if you learn X,Y,Z you would be a better fit”

from Jim Spohrer to Everyone:    10:30  AM

Great presentation - many thanks!

from yassi@issip.org to Everyone:    10:34  AM

To all panelists: The advent of online education and ubiquity of course content online is believed to pose a significant threat to traditional 4-year degree education.  In your hiring practices today what are your requirements for traditional degrees for entry-level jobs? And do you see the need for a traditional BS degree going away?

from Terri Griffith to Everyone:    10:38  AM

Question for all -- when we say "five years experience" what do we mean? I can understand 1 year in standard settings, you see a full cycle of the work, have multiple chances for feedback. For "5 years" is that short hand for "multiple projects," "enough time to make some mistakes" ?

from Dave Alpert to Everyone:    10:38  AM

Do virtual interviews without video promote DEI goals?  We live in a society with so many kinds of endemic discrimination that it might be beneficial to not actually see what the applicant looks like.  I recognize that face-to-face provides valuable body language info.

from Terri Griffith to Everyone:    10:39  AM

Love Martha's point about time cycles. It takes years to bring up new programs, at least a year for a new class. SFU speeds up the process within our executive education practices that aren't as constrained. (Exec ed is business-school speak for non-degree programs)

from Terri Griffith to Everyone:    10:42  AM

Re:Dave's video point -- perhaps skip the video and also focus on projects-to-hire https://hbr.org/2014/04/the-ceo-of-automattic-on-holding-auditions-to-build-a-strong-team

from Jim Spohrer to Everyone:    10:46  AM

We know what works, and scaling internships seems to be the key

from Terri Griffith to Everyone:    10:48  AM

I'll add to Jim's - and, at least in business schools, going back to the founding: creating programs in partnership with organizations. We have an MBA customized to Teck (mining). A data science program with KPMG. Otherside of the coin is when you have the pleasure of having people like Gonzalo as faculty within the regular programs.

from Sukanta Nag to Everyone:    10:49  AM

Thank you everyone. I'd love to connect with you more and share more about OneTen. I kindly invite your organization to join OneTen Coaliation

from yassi@issip.org to Everyone:    10:50  AM

Great panel! Thank you Gonzalo,  Dave, Kelly, PK, Sukanta, Utpal!

from Sukanta Nag to Everyone:    10:50  AM

www.oneten.org

from Terri Griffith to Everyone:    10:50  AM

Thinking about Gonzalo's point -- we'd love to team teach. Schools typically don't as they can't pay two people to teach one course. Maybe the companies could cover the cost for their employee to team teach.

from yassi@issip.org to Everyone:    10:57  AM

Building on what we learned from the panelists, there is a prevailing view amongst industry experts that building bridges between industry and academia to better align pedagogical practices with industry skills requirements leads to better students' skills matching to industry requirements, and a stronger pipeline of qualified entry-level STEM job-ready candidates.

1-What are the barriers for academia and industry to co-create and strengthening such bridges?

2- What is needed to remove the barriers so that those who want to change are aided in doing so?

3- What can academia do? What can industry do, what can the government do to remove these barriers?

As a follow up, I've updated the following questions I asked in the ISSIP workshop, and added them also to this blog post - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/11/camel-dromedary-camelus-dromedarius.html - for future reference. I'll check out the recording of your thoughts about college courses regarding skills' screening (when it's posted), as well as am curious about your thoughts about internships (per Jim Spohrer's thinking).

What role, for ISSIP, could Google Workspace for Education play (and regarding CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch, which is in WUaS Workspace for Education)?

It was great to e-meet you too, Kelly! And talk with you soon!

a new Scottish music-making band - "The Rock blues' Piobaireachd lament" (open?) band?

Thinking I'd like to begin a new Scottish music-making band - "The Rock blues' Piobaireachd lament' (open?) band - much online at first, practices at 5:45 pm PT on Mondays, for an hour or so, (perhaps before Open Band gathers physically at St. Clement's for 7;30 PMPT Scottish Country Dancers ...) ... While this might be way way too late to all play together if Stuart wants to join in, perhaps if some music emerges from those 8 Piobaireachdys (with emergent new sheet music from these esp.), as well as some version of real real time music-making on the Google platform, we can figure out a better time for the extraordinary piper and teacher Stuart Liddell in Argyllshire, Scotland to make music with, and share your thinking too!:) Could we play for different dancers, rock and roll and blues' people who wait for the music to dance them? :))

Noodling away,

Scott

(regarding distributed-ness across the SF Bay Area, East Coast, and Scotland, - how best to bring in 1970's Allman Bros' '73 / Grateful Dead + musical energizing rock and roll oneness happening energy as well?:)

Patti, Stuart, Taylor, dear All,

'Piobaireachd Blues' Laments, Not Rock & Roll'

... is a new working title for the next (2nd) album I'm creating, and this autumn afterall (after thinking I would postpone this 2nd album until 2022, having published my first 'Honey in the Bay' Scottish Small Pipes' 'Light Music' album in December 2020 ) ... much in the way of my learning Piobaireachd  ... May do more pictures of me in kilt, if it still fits, with Prince Charles' Doublet this time, and with shorter hair than last December, with Golden Gate Bridge et al., in distance coming into conversation with last album - https://scottmacleodhoneyinthebagscottishsmallpipesbagpiping.bandcamp.com

New tentative name for the following album -

'Rock Piobaireachd classical Blues' Laments' may become the following album, if I can invent this new genre, with machine learning accompaniment (as musical instrument itself).

"Beloved Scotland: I leave thee gloomy" Piobaireachd tune recording last night -

The title of this first Piobaireachd is a bit dreich itself. :) ... Lots of leaving Scotland story ghosts in its past :)

Not perfect, but I kept the last recording of this tune I made last evening, and listened again to all 11 minutes of it afterwards, also. For learning and something to build on. Hints of cello-like sound in the Scottish small pipes.

And here are the very beginnings of my next album - https://scottmacleodpiobaireachdscottishsmallpipesbagpiping.bandcamp.com/ :)

Will probably record it again today, and the next day, before sharing it with Taylor, and on my album's new website.

Am I hearing Stuart's MIND when you play so perfectly, perfectly steadily ... Meditating ? Perhaps ... Nice focus for playing Piobaireachd (my mInd in this "Beloved Scotland" Piobaireachd has some blips:) ... in playing this Scottish blues:) Stuart, who else has explored playing Piobaireachd as a form of meditation, Scottish meditation - and explicitly?

I imagined you had a good turn out of dancers last night at St. Clement's Scottish Country Dancing, OPen Band musicians too!

As Aye, and friendly regards (the WUaS Corporation is still afloat ... albeit I didn't gone over to Canyon 94516 again from this safe house to pick up the CA FTB letters on paper regarding the WUaS Corp paying the ~ $3,000 in taxes for 2018, '19' and '20, and Robert Morgan's saying to disregard the curious other 3 tax bills, all of which were duplicates of this, in one way or another:),

Not clear to me yet how to turn the attached 8 Piobaireachds into sheet music for playing the blues, let alone 'Rock Piobaireachd Blues' Laments' and even for playing with adapted Allman Bros' '73 at Cow Palace in 1973 energy ... https://youtu.be/DNAmXz8kc6I  ... and with machine learning, but am noodling away:)

Happy travels, Patti, on the next 2 Mondays' Scottish Country Dance Open Band St. Clement's Episcopal Church hall evenings when you'll be away! :)

Friendly greetings,

Scott

Patti, Musicians, All,

Here are 8 Piobaireachd, classical bagpiping sheet music in PDF format.

Parsing-wise, how to play these each a 'rock blues' Piobaireachd lament' - Patti or Lucy or ... on piano - such that anyone with a chanter, on its 9 notes, could riff with you, and even take the lead, playing the sheet music as written in one way or another, and at first as slowly and meditatively as Piobaireachd as its traditionally played? (And then could machine learning interpellate a recording of what you create such that a piano or violin or guitar accompaniment might could be expressed in new AI ways, with similar energy to even the Allman Brothers or the Grateful Dead playing in the 1970s:)?

Musical creativity cheers, Scott

Hi Taylor,

Sounds good (regarding your plans for heading to a gym too especially). Am deliberating about when to return to playing with Open Band, and that time on Mondays could work for me.

A little folksy, and not perfect like Stuart's piping (re Piobaireachd classical Scottish Bagpiping music too), but I've attached a recording of 'Beloved Scotland' Piobaireachd on the A chanter (which version I won't add to my upcoming 2nd album), such that you could play with it in tune on your Scottish Small Pipes' A Chanter for learning to play Piobaireachd further (and in tune). I come a bit into conversation with Beloved Scotland - Piobaireachd · Mike Cusack

https://youtu.be/A7gxuooZa64).

I haven't heard back from Stuart about my inquiry about my next individual lesson with him (and am seeking still to transcribe some past lessons for my own learning), and thus haven't heard back yet re asking about the Topical lesson and your joining this. I don't know his thinking in all this.

(Am seeking here to get back to walking for at least 30 minutes per day, and eating a Very low fat diet, with 5-15 fruits grains vegetables legumes and an egg per day. It's an hour and 20 minutes up to the UU CHURCH OF KENSINGTON which I often walk at twilight (beautiful). My father's family has a history of heart disease (Boston diet?) and the proof that Heart Disease is reversible (Ornish MD from a Yoga perspective, AND Caldwell Esselstyn MD from a medical perspective too is compelling). My father, a MD too, had us drinking skim milk from a very young age (having read the evidence probably in the 1970s and in medical school regarding fat and cholesterol - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/heart%20disease%20reversal - back a few years may have papers or books with the evidence ... https://www.ornish.com/proven-program/the-research/ and http://www.dresselstyn.com/site/articles-studies/). Appreciating the harmonizing vision of some Yoga, UUs, Friends, Harbin's warm pool re Heart Consciousness Church, and even the benefits of the walk up the somewhat steep hill to the pool area re gyms & movement).

See you Monday,

Scott
