Rwandan Hyrax: Can we introduce that system in Rwanda & Burundi?, which system?, computer languages,e.g English, Yes, via WUaS, & in languages there

CM:

can we introduce that system in Rwanda and Burundi

SM:

which system?

CM:

computer languages,e.g English

SM:

yes, computer languages and World University and School are available for learning around the world

WUaS is planning schools in Rwanda and Burundi and in languages there, and is looking for volunteers

CM:

will they consider me?if yes, could you please connect me there and introduce me please?

SM:

World Univ & Sch is wiki (editable web pages) focused ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University ...

and one learns by editing, reading, ...

or teaching what you'd like ...

all via your computer from home ...

consider yourself introduced.

What would you like to begin to focus on or learn at WUaS?

Do you want to start an online school / university in Burundi / Rwanda?

In what language?

CM:

English

SM:

Would you like to teach or learn? What kind of school would be helpful there?

CM:

colleges, does this teaching also applicable for the churches?

SM:

World Univ & Sch is like Wikipedia (now in 281 languages) with MIT Open Course Ware - for open teaching and learning, with an academic focus ...

The WUaS Subject pages - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects -

allow you to add new subjects for open teaching and learning resources (such as church related ones).

Here's an example of the Quaker page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Quakers_-_Religious_Society_of_Friends - at WUaS.

And here's an example of the Computer Programming page - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Programming -

and you could start your own subject

or kids in Rwanda could learn the Scratch programming language on this WUaS Programming page

Inviting people in your town to help build this online school would help it grow, and be about what's helpful, or focus it ...

CM:

will try and see how it operates, although wanted you to teach me how it works practically before l do it.

SM:

Much is already in English ... to teach or add resources, simply click 'edit this page' ... and to learn what you'd like, watch some videos, read some resources, or take a class ... what would you like to teach or learn?

CM:

would like to teach youth programmes

SM:

Ok ... teaching youth about digital technologies in a youth programme, in particular, is great ... and teaching singing is fun, as well.

Here are WUaS 'Singing' links:
http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Singing#World_University_and_School_Links

CM:

give me some topics to teach youth in the churches please

SM:

I would suggest creating a group for teaching and learning the Scratch Programming language at church ... http://scratch.mit.edu/ ...

WUaS is really for college and university levels, but if you have some topics you already teach to youths at church, we could create a new Subject page for this ...

CM:

giving, loving, caring, acting is better than saying.waiting upon the Lord.

SM:

:)

How to extend F/friendly process to World University & School, as wiki,

since it's already peace-oriented,

a f/Friendly 'leading' in so many ways,

Deer Isle: New, wiki, WUaS, "Massachusetts Institute of Technology - MIT," subject, MIT Videos, Technological Innovations, Generating Overachievers?

MIT Media Lab looks to have innovative research projects in abundance

The Media Lab at World University & School ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Media_Lab_at_World_University_and_School ... plans to be in 3000 - 8000 languages and 200 countries, and would like to focus on innovation, digitally especially.

How to facilitate a kind of wiki-flourishing here?

*

is presently in the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge ... just learned of MIT-originating FabAcademy (not free) - http://fabacademy.org/ - wondering how, wiki-wise, to extend the innovation here at the Media Lab into 3,000-8,000 languages at the Media Lab at World University & School ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Media_Lab_at_World_University_and_School ... will add FabAcademy to the references ... Eubalaena glacialis: Innovate with free public education at the University level, FREE Syllabi & WUaS, Washington DC and Internet Law, Corporations

How to innovate with free public education at the University level? ... UC Berkeley and U Michigan are expensive, for example, and it's open to debate whether they are innovating. How to innovate with a MIT OCW, free-degree, online, university, public education here - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University - with the developing internet, is a fascinating question ... Aaron Shaw's "A modest academic fantasy: free syllabi" (http://fringethoughts.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/modest-academic-fantasy/)

Please check out World University & School's main Subjects' page ... with its many, extensible, academic subjects: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects. Each subject has a 'Select Syllabi' section, - see, for example, the WUaS Subject Template - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE - which is also how anyone can begin their own, new subject at WUaS. (Wiki http://webnographers.org/ had a number of "Society and Information Technology" syllabi but it was possibly trashed (censorship) and has seemed to move away from the Creative Commons side of things, now wanting monies to start up again). Wiki World University and School is like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware, with free degrees planned, accrediting on MIT OCW.

If you know of already existing syllabi projects, WUaS is another good place to link their URLs.

Thanks for initiating this great idea and project!

Best regards,
Scott

Western bluebird: "Will Free Benefit the Rich? How Free and Open Education Might Widen Digital Divide," What's Learning? Symbols. Singing as learning?

Harvard talk, recently: "Will Free Benefit the Rich? How Free and Open Education Might Widen Digital Divides" ... http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/events/luncheon/2012/01/reich ... (interesting implications for WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University).

What's a general, fruitful definition of learning at the high school level that you engage? ...

possibly

... doing 'cognitively difficult work'

... so, possibly, symbolic problem solving?

World University and School would particularly like to develop this WUaS page ... "Proof of Educational Information Technologies' Effectiveness" ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Proof_of_Educational_Information_Technologies%27_Effectiveness ... with great evidence ...

*

For students we most care about, according to Justin Reich ... we may want to think about technologies that are "more structured, designed and targeted" ... makes sense

*

Thanks, Justin Reich ... I wonder about your last comment that upper class people, drawing on the idea of the Atheneum, for example, helped create the free public library system in Boston ... I'm wondering if a reading of the free American Public Education K-12 system would suggest that it emerges out of American history/socioculture (as place), with its "We the People ..." trajectory, rather than from an 'upper class" ... What do you think?

"Singing" what you learn might be another fruitful definition ...

Honeycreeper: "Big Study Links Good Teachers to Lasting Gain," WUaS longitudinal research approaches with live MIT OCW, WUaS Great Universities-focus

"Big Study Links Good Teachers to Lasting Gain" - http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/06/education/big-study-links-good-teachers-to-lasting-gain.html - WUaS hopes to incorporate such longitudinal research approaches into its offering of free Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and MD degrees. Let WUaS know if you're interested in designing such studies. WUaS plans to offer its first, free MIT High School class for credit this fall, as a feed in to its matriculating Bachelor's degree class in 2014.

*

And, ideally, World University & School in its early years of matriculation (2014 for its first Bachelor's degree class), would choose to stream MIT professors live into virtual spaces, like G + Hangouts with group video chat, with WUaS-hired graduated students, as online instructing aides.

Orchids?: Looking for Sal Khan informed-approach to Remedial Math & English drawing on MIT OCW High School, Growing WUaS Music-Making, flourishingly

… looking for a Salman Khan informed-approach (http://www.khanacademy.org/) to Remedial Math and Remedial English drawing on MIT OCW High School ... (that would help students become MIT overachievers - probably not this last bit) for the fall, for C.U., and in general.

WUaS would like to offer one MIT OCW High School (http://ocw.mit.edu/high-school/) course this autumn, as a kind of 'feed-in' for its first, matriculating Bachelor's class in 2014, and to start facilitating teaching, as well. I don't think WUaS will seek accreditation at the high school level, at least early, but will do so for Bachelor, Ph.D., Law and M.D.

And looking to grow music-making, flourishingly, online and interactively, as well (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Music_School).

Nice to be in touch.

Best regards,
Scott

Rainbow lorikeets: Remembering the Rainbow Gathering, How to generate love?

Remembering the Rainbow Gathering, in this not so bleak mid-winter, ...

'Lovin' you, sisters & brothers' ...

is something you hear a lot in those woods,

and a lot of people FEEL the love there, in my experience -

maybe it's just the gathering/communitas/(counter)culture.

Curious how to generate cultures of love,

vis-a-vis World Univ & Sch,

an online, startup university,

which hopes to come into rich conversation with MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Cambridge and other great universities, especially.

It's possible to generate cultures of love

(e.g. my earliest years thanks to my folks, Grateful Dead concerts, Scottish Country Dancing, Ceilidh, etc., all, in some ways).

In what myriad ways is this possible, building on MIT OCW & wiki?

See, for example, the Loving Bliss Neurophysiology Eliciting wiki subject at WUaS - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Loving_Bliss_(eliciting_this_neurophysiology) ...

as one starting place, or perhaps the WUaS's "Singing Harmony" wiki subject, - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Singing_Harmony - or add a new subject, or develop an existing one, here - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Subjects ... :)

How to generate love?

The Quaker - Neopithecops zalmora zalmora: A Stanford / Haverford / Swarthmore (Quaker/Friendly) academic excellence ETHOS at WUaS, Quaker Network

How to facilitate a Stanford University / Haverford College / Swarthmore College (Quaker/Friendly) academic excellence ETHOS for World University & School, especially informing WUaS Research (e.g. medicine, computer science, Media Lab, etc.) ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Research ... at WUaS?

Hire Quaker researchers with an undergraduate / graduate degree from these great universities -

esp. MIT, Stanford, Harvard , Yale, Princeton, Cambridge, etc.?

That would do it ...

*

Anecdotally, people I know who have graduated from the Quaker, Earlham College, in Indiana, have seemed to love their experience / time there, more so even than at the other Quaker colleges of Haverford and Swarthmore. I wonder why this is; my sample is very small. But might this be because Earlham creates greater community, and communitas, drawing on its Quaker history, and as a fairly rural school, compared with Swarthmore and Haverford?

*

... would like to 'roll out' wiki World University & School, internationally, especially for accreditation in 50-100 countries, through a network of unprogrammed Quaker Meetings (e.g. in Seoul, Tokyo, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Beijing, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Sydney, Auckland, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Mexico City, Cambridge, Berlin, Paris, etc. ), in conjunction with the great universities, here ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Courses#University_course_listings ...

*

Yea, JR! "Public strength" (affirming public education) - http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/12004/1201049-110-3.stm ... World University & School is public education, worldwide, extending MIT Open Course Ware / MITx ... as well as via wiki ... http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University ... and planned for 3,000-8,000 languages and 200 countries (Wikipedia is in 281 langugages, by way of comparison).

*

How to generate a loving ethos, where students flourish, in an educational environment, a school, online in the case of WUaS, drawing on the histories of relatively relaxed and excellent, easy-going Stanford, Haverford and Swarthmore (due to financial stability and California/Quaker/excellence - orientations?), which seem to draw academically overachieving students?

I'm curious why Friday the 13th resonates superstitiously through history.

Why is superstition part of humans?

I hypothesize that it's a meme - a 'replicating, cultural unit' - which is associated with a number and day in this case, with some kind of negative experience. People repeat this, and talk about, and somehow the idea passes from brain to brain, bodymind to bodymind, possibly making some people feel bad.

It seems best to me to mimimize, or inhibit, its signifiance, if it has any significance, for anyone, (even as a kind of coping strategy).

And why not celebrate such days in a kind of reversal of this curious, negative Friday the 13th meme, as a creative opportunity, and, for example, go to a Dead concert online, and rock out. :)

*

How to learn to create concerts online? :)

Hummingbird: Growing number of 'singing' links for open teaching and learning resources, Singing Harmony & Bass Lines, INTERACTIVELY & ONLINE at WUaS

The number of 'singing' links and resources on World University and School's wiki, 'Singing' page for open teaching and learning resources, (about kinds of singing which are really fun, in my experience), is growing - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Singing#World_University_and_School_Links - and open ended.

I'm interested in helping them 'come alive,' in terms of open and skillful learning and teaching via the web.

For example, I'm facilitating an open Playing / Practicing Music Space (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Practicing_-_Playing_a_Musical_Instrument) on Wednesday evenings from 9 - 10 pm PT - where people can play what they're learning in a Google + group video chat hangout, or simply play, as one example - openly, freely, in a friendly way and easily.

A few people have come so far.

And I'd like to learn to Sing Walking Base Lines skillfully and improvisationally - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Singing_Walking_Bass_Lines - but haven't figured out this one, yet, :)
