There's Kirtan (which is "a group singing and music-making experience, involving ancient Sanskrit chants") at Harbin Hot Springs ... and re my http://bit.ly/HarbinBook too.

How does Kirtan relate to Raga in Indian classical music?

While Kirtan isn't raga, "certain Ragas can be used to sing certain Kirtans or chants for a deeper meditation."
http://www.kaminimusic.com/indianragasforkirtans/

Kirtanis a more structured team performance, typically with a call and response musical structure, similar to an intimate conversation. It includes two or more musical instruments,[43][44] and incorporates various ragas such as those associated with Hindu gods Shiva (Bhairava) or Krishna (Hindola).[45]

Kalmia Latifolia: Cambridge, MA, Society of Internet Friends (including Harvard and MIT, naturally), Is MIT Media Lab's Joi Ito its clerk, in a Quaker sense, and activism-wise, as well?, Glad to have met in person the chair of Stanford Medicine Bob Harrington MD yesterday, Will seek to meet with Bob later this summer re World University and School collaborations

Good day, M,

Curious whether MIT Media Lab's Joi Ito is the clerk, in a Quaker sense, of the Cambridge, MA, Society of Internet Friends (including Harvard and MIT, naturally) is his visionary expressions of what the Internet can do and where it can go, activism-wise, as well (and re - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/06/hanakotoba-language-of-flowers-feel.html - too).

Hoping you enjoy our emailing ... thinking about this broadly, it's an "ecology of attention" perhaps (re http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/05/currumbin-wildlife-sanctuary-online.html - to which I just added this "ecology of attention" phrase and omega 3s, too), and an explicatory coping strategy per John Money (my interpretation of this) perhaps ... and kind of a post-Lacanian approach to language re the mind (G.L.A.-informed too). And my bodymind/neurophysiology keeps writing these ... beneficially I hope ... it's also partly a consciousness-raising way of thinking - something I appreciate (and re Angela and Victor, and G.L.A. - all of whom are / were quite conscious - aware of being aware and very able to communicate this - in interesting enlightening and even healing / therapeutic ways ... all a bit philosophical, I'd say, as well.

Blue suitcase is possibly about an inch shorter than G.K.M.'s but very nice, and wonderfully light and mobile on its wheels... will my small pipes fit is one key defining question?

But the symbolic significance of this blue suitcase resonates re a kind of liberation even ... re bodymind "information technology" I find a bit aggressive and not understanding ... making it difficult to communicate with. (Being Pgh "maled" can feel a tiny bit metaphorically like being gored idea-wise, I think:).

(Seeking to begin a family here ... ).

Glad to have met in person the chair of Stanford Medicine Bob Harrington MD yesterday ... He was at Duke as a cardiologist from 1993-2012, when he came to Stanford, so he probably knows John
Alexander MD (https://medicine.duke.edu/faculty/john-hunter-peel-alexander-md) :) Will seek to meet with Bob later this summer re World University and School collaborations.

L,
Scott

M,

I feel honored that MIT Media Lab Director Joi Ito just got back to the newly emerging WUaS Corporation - we filed the initial Articles of Incorporation on April 21st - about becoming a strategic advisor (although unfortunately he doesn't have time; he is just becoming a strategic advisor at Sony, moving off the Board there, congratulations on having a baby, Joi!). I've posted our emails about this below. It is nevertheless a major kind of approval, as I see this. Invited Stanford's John Hennessy and Harvard's Charlie Nesson to join the Board recently too, but haven't yet heard back.

Talk to you soon.

Sincerely, Scott

Played the Piobaireachd (Pibroch) "The Company's Lament" through entirely yesterday before Scotitsh Country Dancing's Open Band - https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand - in St. Clement's beautiful courtyard sitting on a wee wall (and after playing through the SCD music). It's a very pretty Piobaireachd, and sounds differently on the Scottish Small Pipes, than the Great Highland Bagpipe, and was fun. As I was playing, Ed, a piper (originally from Scotland, I think), and his wife, Lorna (from Berkeley), visiting again this summer from Vancouver, BC (where they live), walked by, and I think enjoyed it - since once inside they opened the window both perchance to listen and for air ... Company's Lament is a fairly long piece - and good to play it in its entirety after not having played a long piece recently. The SSP are harmonious and aren't a strain to play either like the GHB. (Playing this brought again to mind what playing a piece of classical music is like).

*

I may seek to bring my Scottish Small Pipes to Oregon, and play some of this piece at my Uncle Ted Brown's funeral this weekend.

*
Hi M,

Just played through the Scottish Country Dancing sheet music on small pipes (not keyboard) for tonight's Open Band outside in St Clement's beautiful old stone courtyard with lots of flowers blooming all around :) Because this music is rarely taken directly from Great Highland Bagpipe sheet music, it's not scored for my SSP instrument and I can thus rarely play through a whole melody of a tune without a glitch or fluently (although playing bass notes on pipes or keyboard in the key of D or A allows fluency) - another reason to explore taking regular piano lessons with Patti, - i.e. for the backup of a second instrument with joy of playing, and occasionally add the small pipes for learning new workarounds - and to play with her in a kind of chamber music +++ ...

Have put out a lot of invitations to join the WUaS Corporation team ... and should begin to hear back fairly soon from a variety of people. Most focused on finding a startup CEO and CFO now who can make growth happen - since I think we have hopefully at least two Board members, enough for the CA state forms.

Very glad to have arranged an appointment in video with Dr. Sanjeev Arora and some of his Project ECHO team in New Mexico in August - another ginormous baby step, albeit still without a bit of funding. Maybe I'll be able to be a speaker at a Project ECHO conference they're organizing in September even. See his videos here in my blog pist to learn how Project ECHO works on computer and smartphone screens here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/06/bezoar-ibex-capra-aegagrus-stanford.html.

Music making begins soon here. Are you making music this summer at all, Ma? It's fun in a great context.

Dear Sanjeev, (Marilyn and Erika),

Thank you for your email, Sanjeev, and likewise! What a great and inspiring Stanford Grand Rounds you shared. And Project ECHO also seems quite well developed here - http://echo.unm.edu/about-echo/stafffaculty/ - with a huge staff. Perhaps exploring a collaboration with CC MIT OCW-centric World University and School and re our plans to be in each of all ~200 countries' official (and main languages), with online medical schools and teaching hospitals (and for space, ship and wilderness medicine too), would make it possible for us together to help many many people, and for you to achieve your goal of reaching 1 billion people.

Looking forward to talking.

Dear Marilyn, Sanjeev and Erika,

Thank you for your email, Marilyn. (And please call me Scott). I'll be traveling on August 1st, so August 3rd at 1:00 pm Pacific/2:00 pm Mountain Time would be best for me (and August 4th would work for me too as a backup).

As a template or blueprint for planning purposes, and for your information, here are the beginning CC MIT OCW-centric wiki WUaS Medical School - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University_Medical_School - and the beginning WUaS teaching hospital - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Hospital - planned online in all countries' official and main languages; WUaS is moving to a new wiki emerging from CC Wikidata, which is CC Wikipedia's database for its 358 languages, so the data generation possibilities for these are enormous. WUaS is also planning Clinical Trials at WUaS (for all languages - potentially with speakers in all 7,099 living languages) - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages). See the "Select Links" wiki subjects on each of these pages to see further how WUaS will develop as a wiki subjects for open teaching and learning, thus further democratizing knowledge - part of the title of your Stanford Grand Rounds' talk, Sanjeev (as you know).

Since MIT itself doesn't have a Medical School (or a Law School), and hence very few of its ~2300 CC MIT OCW courses in English are in these areas, WUaS is very interested in exploring collaborating further greatly not only with your Project ECHO, but also with Stanford Medicine (and Stanford Law) themselves, in order to create CC OCW in these areas, and eventually in each of all nation states' official languages, in order to help these countries with excellent online medicine and law education. Stanford Law and Medicine already have a fair number of international law projects along these lines actually, but not organized country by country and in their languages.

WUaS is also CC licensed on our non-profit wing which allows us to "share," "adapt" but "non-commercially" CC-4 MIT OCW in its 7 languages, and WUaS is developing a new for-profit wing (for which we've already filed the Articles of Incorporation) which will partly grow out of CC-0 Wikisource (part of the CC Wikimedia/Wikipedia family) and which allows for "commercial" use of this open data for a planned online bookstore (e.g. for textbooks) and an academic press, for example. To recap, CC4 MIT OCW allows WUaS to "share," "adapt" but "non-commercially" and CC0 Wikisource allows WUaS to use this data for "commercial" purposes, as I understand this. I hope all this context and information help.

Please let me know what time to talk works best for you, and I look forward to talking with your further about some of this in early August, Sanjeev. Thank you for your inspiring and excellent Grand Rounds' talk at Stanford recently.

Thank you.

Best, Scott

*

Hi M,

Curious how to further introduce reason into family communication, and, GKM, while successful as a MD and Professor, reasoned intensely, ... he also had an emotional, un-reasonable side, which memes (replicating cultural units) echo through me, and probably us as a family too. GLA was very reasoning and smart in a different way, and understood Dad - and as a MD psychiatrist Lacanian psychoanalyst and family friend - he also had clinical experience in navigating emotional intensities such as Dad's and in relation to others (such as offspring) ... not sure Dad was so sensible with thinking about me in the 1990s ... just an observation (or even in the 1970s, emerging from the 1960s, and when I was in high school ... when career thinking from GKM could have been helpful in retrospect) ... (glad to have heard from GCA today) ...

but it's interesting to think about too how to navigate family generation questions ahead ... and vis-a-vis such dynamics ... and even theorizing all of this ... how to develop new psychological / psychoanalytic theory, generalizable - relevant to most cultures and languages (e.g. Americas and India and China and Asia and Africa, et al.) in these regards ...

Working on open artificial-intelligence technology and brain-computer interfaces, or forming ethics committees, are just part of the solution. We need to consciously build systems that work for the benefit of humans and society. They cannot have addiction, clicks, and consumption as their primary goal. Thekla lark: Beginning to develop CC World Univ & Sch in MediaWiki / Wikibase-Wikidata

Hi Tim, Daniel, Dario, Allen, Luis, Tighe, (Markus and Lydia),

Thanks for your recent excellent WMF talks, Allen and Markus - "Problematizing and Addressing the Article-as-Concept Assumption in Wikipedia," and "Understanding Wikidata Queries"

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2jpKRwPT-Q and https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Research/Showcase#June_2017) - which I found very informative and helpful, and timely for what follows especially.

As you may know, I'm developing CC MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School, which is like CC Wikipedia (in 358 languages) with CC MIT OCW (in 7 languages) and CC Yale OYC, and CC WUaS donated WUaS to Wikidata in October 2015. WUaS seeks to develop major universities in all countries' official / main languages, and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in Wikipedia's 358 languages and eventually in all 7,099 living languages - beginning with this SUBJECT TEMPLATE : http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/SUBJECT_TEMPLATE

Thanks to Wikimedians Lydia, Ryan Kaldari and Jan Zerebecki, World University and School began developing in Mediawiki (but not in Wikibase/Wikidata), in English and German, from January (during the WikiDev conference in SF) to March 2016 but this the stopped working then. Here's a version of this in the web-archive - https://web-beta.archive.org/web/20150324001526/http://worlduniversityandschool.org/mediawiki-1.24.1/index.php?title=Main_Page - which I'd like to begin with again, but now in Wikibase/Wikidata too. Now that both Mediawiki and Wikibase/Wikidata have had one and a half years to develop further, I'd like to begin to re-install and develop WUaS in English and German (which I know at an intermediate level), as well as in Chinese and Spanish, which are WUaS pilot languages, and which were your test languages in your recent talks, Allen and Markus, I heard. Importantly, they are also 2 of CC4 MIT OCW's 7 languages - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/translated-courses/ .  MIT OCW's CC4 licensing allows for "sharing" and "adapting" but is "non-commercial," (while Wikisource's CC0 licensing, by contrast for example, is "commercial").

At a Wikimedia friend's recent suggestion, I'm going to begin to seek to install Mediawiki and Wikibase for wiki CC World University and School using -

But I'm a social scientist (having just written a large actual-virtual ethnographic book) and not too much of a coder, and found Jan and Kaldari's help invaluable in the installation of Mediawiki in January 2016. There are also a lot of potential planning considerations in developing World Univ & Sch in Mediawiki/Wikibase - including anticipating multiple languages and using Wikibase/Wikidata ... and potentially, as I talked about with Lydia this January 2017 at Wikidev, developing a WUaS bookstore using CC0 (commercial) Wikisource in a newly emergent wing at WUaS. (I've been talking with Silke, a German friend who works a quarter time in the Stanford bookstore, who's interested in organizing the online CC WUaS bookstore, first in English, but WUaS doesn't have a "front end" for this yet).

So Daniel (as Wikidata Principal Platform Engineer) and Tim (as Lead Platform Architect on the MediaWiki Platform team), as I proceed with attempting to install Mediawiki and Wikibase, could I please ask you some questions? And as language questions arise, beyond in English and German, could I ask you Allen and Luis about developing WUaS in Chinese and Spanish, please? And, Dario, as WUaS begins to develop our CC0 WUaS Bookstore emerging potentially out of Wikisource/Wikidata, could I please ask you about how this would work (potentially on your Talk pages - mine is Scott_WUaS - or here ... )? Thank you!

CC OCW WUaS is seeking to matriculate students this autumn for free since CC MIT OCW-centric online accrediting Bachelor's degrees, first in English, but soon in Chinese and Spanish, with the course catalog here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/.

Thank you so much.

Best,
Scott
