I nominate Herr Sotak, my German teacher (& if I remember correctly Shawn Flaherty's too) on the 3rd floor of Rowe Hall in the 2nd half of the 1970s. I went on to study German at Reed College in Portland Oregon, minoring in it in a sense, and spending a year in Munich, Germany in 1981. Herr Sotak often said I think "clothes make the man" (which doesn't translate into German very readily - "Kleider machen Leute" and which I don't recall Herr Sotak saying... and which saying may have roots in Homer and Shakespeare's "Hamlet" Polonius too re “The apparel oft proclaims the man”) - {and I write this with my first book, a sociocultural anthropology of Harbin Hot Springs' Heart Consciousness Church titled "Naked Harbin Ethnography: Hippies, Warm Pools, Counterculture, Clothing-Optionality & Virtual Harbin."
