Dear Jeanne, Claire, Os, and Nontheist Friends,

Regarding, Jeanne, your

I have no ambition or even desire to live beyond 122!  However it would be nice to think I could avoid climate disaster if I should live to be 100 (2037).  I hope that Friends can unite to find EFFECTIVE ways to avoid climate disaster, a task which seems at present to be beyond us all, whether politician, scientist or ordinary Friend.

Perhaps this call all find form in further modeling in a single realistic virtual earth for everything including reversing global warming (and also for genetics) ... all in one realistic virtual earth ... for new group knowledge-generation! ...

I don’t quite understand, Scott.  How does creating a virtual earth help?  Is it a substitute?  A model or teaching aid?  What happens to the virtual model if human civilization is threatened or extinguished by ecological change?

Best wishes,

Jeanne

Jeanne, NtFs,

Planning for one ... A single realistic virtual earth for global warming - a whole earth simulation (enormous data-wise) - would allow us to see and generate knowledge of where we've come from and where we could head with ever increasing accuracy (way beyond fragmented simulations of weather on the News or even from Cambridge Univ, for ex. Or a huge national science weather simulation).

Think Google Street View with Time Slider where one could Slide forward to the future (or back) - with ever increasing data (that many can add, even you and I with photos, for example, of rising oceans and stationary land masses, to Street View, over decades ...  I see even a parallel here with the idea of people sharing info & data & 'leadings' in a hypothetical Non-theist Friends' Meeting in the group sharing aspect).

Here's a related article in these regards, with IT and artificial intelligence (which is part of Street View with Google's TensorFlow AI, AND which would probably even learn from the photos and videos of storms we might add to it) -

'Predicting global patterns of long-term climate change from short-term simulations using machine learning'

Not to do with theism, and somewhat a Friendly expression of caring ...

NtF cheers,
Scott

To Sarah, Jim, Scott, John, Joan, Larry, Claudia, Dennis, Stephen, Jim, Matt, Peggy, Charles, Rebecca, Taylor, Ann, Ken, Em4ofa@aol.com, Alex, Janie, David, Henry, Susan, Cathy, Marc, Ed, Charles, Grant, Hugh, Mark, Tym, Pin, Peter, Larry, Nancy, Seth, Patti, Richard, George, Barbara, John, Kate, Robin, Nancy, Alden, Caleb, Mike, david.warr, Jen ...

David, (Jen, All),

David, (Jen, All),

Greetings from Cuttyhunk island ... Some brainstorming here regarding a Realistic Virtual Earth for chemistry and everything ...

Am leaving Cuttyhunk soon ... But it would be great to explore bringing in all of the Dartmouth College and Boston University chemistry departments in developing a single realistic virtual earth for chemistry and STEM.

This would interoperate with a #RealisticVirtualHarbin Hot Springs for STEM,  Social Sciences, and Actual-Virtual, Physical-Digital ethnography
Think Google Street View with Time Slider, Maps, Earth with TensorFlow AI and realistic Avatar Bots - at the cellular and molecular levels too

#RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM -

Beyond chemistry, it might involve dovetailing with projects like the Landsat imaging project (since 1972)

In the Landsat vein, how best to create the #FilmTo3D App for chemistry at the molecular level
(https://youtu.be/oD_8aU7HDag) is a fascinating question ... And could it all stream into a single realistic virtual earth so we could play around with these 3D objects and simulations for research in brand new developing (post Google Poly, a library of virtual objects') ways?

Nice to have talked with you at the Fishing Club, David at Jim Lovell's memorial! Have a great summer and see you next year on Cuttyhunk, All :)

Cheers, Scott

A Realistic Virtual Earth for history too - and the chemistry of genes for genealogy! ...

Hi David, (Jen),

Would you be interested in talking, brainstorming-wise, further about how a realistic virtual earth for chemistry might work, (moving on from Labster which you've used and mentioned at Jim Lovell's memorial service) at some point. Here's the idea in my blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2021/06/alpine-lily-lilium-parvum-how-would.html - and from MIT's Scott Greenwald -
Am thinking of a prospective WUaS Moroccan student, Imad Zalmat (who got a Bachelor's degree there in French, not in the Moroccan dialect), who's expressed interest in a PhD at WUaS in computer science, in English, but perhaps with a focus on computational chemistry. Could he help begin to build out a realistic virtual earth for chemistry (#realisticvirtualearthforchemistry ) as part of his PhD work ? Am also thinking of a realistic virtual earth for chemistry at the atomic, molecular (cellular and street view levels too) ... and even as new digital tools (way beyond Crispr CaS 9) - for aging reversal genetic (drug too) developments; eg see http://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2021/07/wuas-minutes-for-61921-monthly-business.html

All of the above would involve a tremendous knowledge of chemistry, which you have, as well as an educational focus.
It could be interesting brainstorming-wise to simply chat further regarding your experiences with virtual chemistry laboratories at the chemistry level ... and as WUaS seeks too to create a #FilmTo3D App at the molecular, cellular and street view levels for adding data INTO a single realistic virtual earth for everything (think Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow AI, Translate ... and even for avatar bot electronic medical records for 7.8 billion people).

Am curious what works and what you'd like to see newly regarding your previous experiences with online digital chemistry labs and tools. Tea sometime or a chat in the road on the Cuttyhunk?

Friendly regards,
Scott

Hi Jen and David,

Hoping you are well. Nice to see you at the CYC yesterday.

David, did you ever know Jonathan Lovell? He came to Cuttyhunk on a boat in the '50s with his father, the '60s, and possibly 70s+. He was also a Scottish Country Dancer in the SF Bay Area, a cheery friend too, a San Jose State University English Professor, and with Amherst College, Oxford and Yale degrees. He died not long ago, under slightly mysterious circumstances to me ... Could this have been from California experimenting out of the 1970s and beyond ? - Could it have been during the coronavirus pandemic? (Am not sure exactly when he died but there are some obituaries online I think). Just a heads' up in what may be an ongoing quiet witch hunt during the post coronavirus pandemic time - and re those who may have experimented sexually in the past ... I wonder if it might make sense, even regarding your Dartmouth networks (and I've been a whistle-blower about the SF Quaker Meeting and ethical wrongdoing with kids, and even tragically the international illegal sex industry - where the treasurer of this Quaker Meeting has 2 Dartmouth degrees, and was a junior CYC instructor, and may be a bit sick or mentally ill too) ... to be careful around CYC kids, and even avoid them in some ways ... for one's own safety potentially ... Am missing Jonathan Lovell's kindred Massachusetts' spirit and don't know how he died, but wonder about unjust foul play even, and sadly.

Friendly regards, Scott
