This is a reminder that Sophia Dandelet (Cambridge) will be speaking at the Moral Sciences Club this coming Tuesday, 28th of February, from 4:00–5:45 pm. Her talk is entitled 'Epistemic rationality and the value of truth' and the abstract is as follows:
Veritism is the view that what makes epistemically irrational belief epistemically irrational is that it constitutes an improper response to the value of truth. This idea promises to serve as the foundation for an elegant and systematic treatment of epistemic rationality, one that illuminates the significance of epistemic evaluative standards without sacrificing extensional adequacy. But I am reluctantly skeptical that veritism can fulfil this promise---no matter whether it is developed in a consequentialist, deontological, or virtue-theoretic way. In this talk, I’ll go some ways towards explaining why.
The in-person meeting will take place at Newnham College in the Jane Harrison Room, followed by tea and coffee and then dinner in the evening. The talk will also be available to watch on Zoom on the following link:

Imagine you could take a medicine that prevents the decline that come with age and keeps you healthy. Scientists are trying to find a drug that has these effects. The current most promising anti-ageing drug is Rapamycin, known for its positive effects on life and health span in experimental studies with laboratory animals. To obtain the maximum beneficial effects of the drug, it is often given lifelong. However, even at the low doses used in prevention for age-related decline, negative side effects may occur, and it is always desirable to use the lowest effective dose. A research group at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany, has now shown in laboratory animals that brief exposure to rapamycin has the same positive effects as lifelong treatment opening new doors for a potential application in humans.

As I was coming back from Moraine State Park yesterday I saw a big 18 wheeler truck with 'SuperEgo' written on its side, and MD psychiatry+wise, about which I've asked regarding both f.k. and Stephon Owens, - if they are seeing (cmu?) MD psychiatrists, - some months ago, I thought that not the tripartite "symbolic, imaginary/mirror, 'the real' " registers of Lacan but Lacan's "return to Freud" 's 'SUPEREGO, ego, id" tripartite schema would be something for a MD psychiatrist to focus on in working with Lebanese f.k. in psychiatry with him - to protect people if f.k. doesn't 'have' somehow a functioning - metaphorically - 'super-ego,' “das Über-Ich” (in German) from an Arab culture ... This deep dive into close listening will engage participants in a collaborative audio-annotation exercise focused on some of Ralph Ellison's earliest extant recordings, made at Harvard University in August 1953. Attendees will have an opportunity to create their own audio-annotations and learn how to make them discoverable online. They will also learn how to produce individual (or collaborative) audiovisual editions, exhibits, and playlists.

Good morning, and good to hear from you, Ken.
Am curious why the sick soldier? frederic khayat on Sunday morning, whom I hadn't seen in weeks came out of his room and sat at the living room table hood over his head AFTER I put the eggs in the boiling water to soft boil them (am an ovo lacto vegetarian) and had gone into my abode for 5 timer minutes such that I would have to pass by him to get back into the kitchen to get my eggs (or similar). Was he operating even under military orders from a sick Lebanese army officer to stay in some sort of visible proximity to me, since his little symbolic aggressions over months in the kitchen for example, have led me to withdraw from him, and into my abode to do Yoga for example. I'm sorry if he may be tortured and broken 'inside' ... and have yet to learn in these regards how Jackson Shannon and Harold Tyler died and disappeared - eg from the police. Is he seeing a non-extraterritorial uniformed services' MD psychiatrist yet ... eg at cmu, or from the Swiss or Lebanese army or similar?
Regarding my father's first Sea subdural hematoma on Univ Pitt-managed Semester at on 12/30/04 , I wonder if Dad had known he would have posdibly been attacked in Belize off-ship whether he would have gone on this Univ Pitt Semester At Sea trip with its possible connections with international organized crime. Had my father known beforehand - and maybe he did - could he have sought for the criminals to have seen psychiatrists, or could my father have seen a MD psychiatrist eg in 2003 or 2004 to prevent such possible brutality or brutalism suggested by rhe photos I saw, and his impairment for 2 3/4 years, which led to his death on Nov 25 2007 ?
How could developing online World Univ & Sch talk MD psychiatry help - eg with Large Language Models and something like ChatGPT AI conversation - and with possible psychopaths before they perpetrate their crimes or to prevent them from harming?
How could such MD psychiatry have helped my father from being harmed ... such that hypothetically and today with aging reversal genetic Drug Therapies emerging, Gordon might be living for decades into the future, and getting younger?

After returning from the Carnegie Museum Oakland yesterday evening and through a group of who could have been 'gentle' staffers just (standing kind of curiously) outside the gift shop in the museums' center, - which could have been almost a 'mixer' in another setting (where Dick & Lucy Robb, family friends in Brookline MA since I was a baby met in a mixer in DC out of which emerged their 3 children) - it made me wonder if there are 'sober' MD mixers happening in Pgh in one way or another out of which some MDs have married. Ken, Ma, Susan, Larry, All, do you know of any MD 'mixers' happening in Pittsburgh (I think the Robbs' mixer was a Princeton-Wellesley mixer in the 1950s) ?

To obtain the maximum beneficial effects of the drug, it is often given lifelong. However, even at the low doses used in prevention for age-related decline, negative side effects may occur, and it is always desirable to use the lowest effective dose. A research group at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany, has now shown in laboratory animals that brief exposure to rapamycin has the same positive effects as lifelong treatment opening new doors for a potential application in humans.
