Hi All,

New thread here: 'In case of emergency (was: Electricity outage)' re numerous outages in Canyon 94516 ... but this thread could be about a major earthquake in CA, or Coronavirus / COVID 19 or newly MERS coronavirus (MERS-CoV) or SARS (re genes) ...

Have been aggregating some information sources re Coronavirus / COVID 19, beginning here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/easter-island-chile-rapa-nui-report-all.html on Feb 12, 2020, where I think it begins data-wise around 23 Jan 2020.

Here's Kaiser Permanente's web page on this (which health care provider is in 8 US states) - https://healthy.kaiserpermanente.org/alerts/p1/2019-novel-coronavirus-feb-2020 - which points to the CDC - Center for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/index.html) - for information.

Am wary of "Orientalism" (a kind of racism) in the representations of all this data, and here too - Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE
... https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 (where it's big red circles presently center on Wuhan China, South Korea, Italy, and Iran) - but am also appreciative of all these new amazing opportunities for access to information!

Just learned of a new Coronavirus:
'MERS coronavirus (MERS-CoV)
Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus'

from searching and finding this Google map -
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?msa=0&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=2&vpsrc=1&mid=15GjG9LJ3K4LTOcdYPuu2zjJoAPg&ll=29.482620294255913%2C132.57207391774304
(and this and SARS are all mentioned in the CDC website).

In German, here's a recent article on Coronavirus Covid-19 emerging in Italy:
https://www.fr.de/panorama/coronavirus-italien-riegelt-dutzend-staedte-zr-13533315.html (and as an alternative news' source, here are German national newspapers - https://www.deutschland.de/en/topic/knowledge/national-newspapers - https://translate.google.com/ - but search for information online in Google especially). And here's another article regarding Germany's health minister - https://www.faz.net/aktuell/wirtschaft/spahn-auch-deutsche-orte-koennten-abgeriegelt-werden-16649531.html - which suggests that quarantines could happen; and another regarding that the WHO wants the world to prepare for a Pandemic: https://www.welt.de/vermischtes/live205334991/Coronavirus-WHO-will-Welt-auf-moegliche-Pandemie-vorbereiten.html .

I also found the tone of this recent PBS NewsHour LIveStream responsible, informative and helpful:
WATCH LIVE: NewsHour answers your questions on novel coronavirus
Streamed live on Feb 21, 2020
https://youtu.be/0jcT1Ui3Hmc

And here's the World Health Organization's web site: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019

And the web site of:
European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control
An agency of the European Union

Per this 1/12/20 blog entry again, am thinking / planning for avatar bot electronic medical records for all 7.5 billion people could help in this COVID-19 situation -

"Easter Island, Chile (Rapa Nui): . . . Genes . . . Report ALL cases of Coronavirus into a #RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics in #AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords planning for all 7.5 billion people on planet in all ~200 nation states' WUaS Univs & in a SINGLE #RealisticVirtualEarth - and in the ~200 online WUaS teaching hospitals ..."
https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/easter-island-chile-rapa-nui-report-all.html - and per Harvard and MIT Professor of Genetics' George Church's recent Tweet (in blog post too) -

https://link.medium.com/7zL63vauY3    Thanks Ed. Rapid response capabilities needed: molecular diagnostics, vaccines, neutralizing antibodies, and homes easily converted to off-the-grid full-recycling quarantine-biospheres. Not just for this epidemic, but the next one.

https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1227150486320615424?s=20 too.

How to parse all this remarkable information as this situation develops - and between all of us in communication with experts (presumably creating these web site updates)? What information sites would you suggest looking at?

And about CA earthquake preparedness too?

Regards, Scott

Hi, Byron, Ed, MDs, All,

Ongoing thinking and communicating about this impending CoronaVirus COVID-19 virus here -
- and I think that the following Harvard Tweet is a remarkable opportunity:

"Scientists from Harvard will join forces with colleagues from China to improve coronavirus diagnostics, and develop vaccines to prevent new infections and antiviral therapies to treat existing ones" -

And from other countries' presses:
'Drohender Ausbruch:
Deutschland bereitet sich auf Covid-19 vor'
"Impending outbreak:
Germany is preparing for Covid-19"
https://www.spiegel.de/wissenschaft/medizin/coronavirus-wie-sich-deutschland-auf-covid-19-vorbereitet-a-b5739916-9993-4f2b-93d9-8f5a8a8bd884

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_newspapers_in_Germany

"CDC sounds warning, says people should start preparing for coronavirus spreading in US" -
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/02/25/metro/cdc-says-people-should-start-preparing-coronavirus-spreading-us/

I still think the risks of COVID-19 are place-specific, and from what I've read and heard are very very low, and was seeking a bell curve or graph of peak of deaths so far, but couldn't find this. This Johns Hopkins model suggests that 87,000 cases have been confirmed, 2,705 people have died thus far, and 28,000 people have recovered - https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 .

What do people think?

Scott

Hi, Ed, Byron, David, All,

I've also added these two emails to my blog post from yesterday, FYI - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/teak-24-feb-2020-world-univ-sch-q-and.html ...

I'm curious how George Church's 'molecular diagnostics' into electronic medical records would work, and as one approach to deal with the possibility of PREPARING for a global pandemic (and not just a US one) per:

@geochurch
Feb 11
https://link.medium.com/7zL63vauY3    Thanks Ed. Rapid response capabilities needed: molecular diagnostics, vaccines, neutralizing antibodies, and homes easily converted to off-the-grid full-recycling quarantine-biospheres. Not just for this epidemic, but the next one.

And if everyone on the planet had a potential Wikidata PIN # (like a Wikidata Q-item #) - all 7.5 billion people - in what ways could health workers orchestrate response capabilities in all ~200 countries and their official/main languages (and per https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages)? Build out even of the KP system?

Thoughts, questions, observations?

Best regards, Scott

Byron, Ed, Cindy, Maitreyi, Caleb, John, Rob, Robert, MDs, and All,

Am following up on CoronaVirus COVID-19 developments, which appear to be place-based, and with relatively few deaths outside Wuhan, China, yet there are some confirmed cases in California and Boston appearing here - "Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE" ... https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Here's how the CoronaVirus test works:
"Test for COVID-19 often carried out alongside others to determine illness"
https://youtu.be/n7rsP-gNAuw (Test for Covid-19 vs Dengue re Singapore)

And here, in a San Francisco twist -
"SF Mayor
London Breed
declares state of emergency over coronavirus" -
https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/SF-mayor-London-Breed-declares-state-of-emergency-15083811.php

Looks like there are a few confirmed cases of COVID-19 appearing in California on the Johns Hopkins' University mapping web site, if you click on the left by city/state/province at the bottom:

2 confirmed cases in San Benito, CA
2 confirmed cases in San Diego county
2 confirmed cases in Santa Clara, CA

1 confirmed case in
Humboldt County, CA
Los Angeles, CA
Orange, CA
Sacramento, CA

No reported deaths yet in the US ...
(out of 39.56 million people in California presently per Google)

1 confirmed case in Boston, MA too ...

It's difficult to assess the veracity of this data, re consistency of testing processes and data reporting - caveat emptor (buyer beware) ... and skepticism has merit - and yet preparedness makes much much sense.

Am appreciating Harvard and MIT Professor of Genetics' Tweet in an ongoing way in all of these regards (with a Johns Hopkins' map image):

George Church @geochurch

DNA
noun Biochemistry
"deoxyribonucleic acid, a self-replicating material which is present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information." (Apple dictionary)
It's the self-replicating aspect of DNA / genes that makes pandemics or epidemics such a challenge.

Do you know of other informative models or mappings, besides on the CDC and WHO web sites that might be helpful here? Thoughts, questions, suggestions?

With best regards, Scott

Am adding these emails, and our conversation, here -

PS Can we get an electron microscope on a smartphone for molecular diagnostics in the field going - soon? And transmit this data in Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, and beginning in Wuhan China?  (And can we even plan for 7.5 billion people in these regards, each a Wikidata PIN # regarding Wikidata's 300 languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hospital - and build out of Kaiser Permanente's Electronic Medical Records in its 8 US states)?

Dear Peter, Prof. Greely, Rob Califf MD, and All,

As a followup further on Coronavirus, it looks like from the current data here - Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE ... https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 - that a pandemic isn't growing.

It seems too that per MIT & Harvard Prof of Genetic's George Church's Tweet about the next epidemic - https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1227150486320615424?s=20 - that there's much potential in "molecular diagnostics, vaccines, neutralizing antibodies" and with regards to https://twitter.com/Harvard/status/1232116756560465921?s=20.

And thanks to Stanford Prof. Hank Greely for re-Tweeting: "A quick primer on FDA's "Emergency Use Authorization" process" (https://twitter.com/pzettler/status/1232088465657008129?s=20 and https://twitter.com/HankGreelyLSJU ) in these regards.

But I am curious regarding my previous email's PS about planning for all 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata PIN # (for its 300 languages), and this recent MIT Tech Review article this morning:
"Coronavirus and the impact on global supply chains"
https://insights.techreview.com/coronavirus-and-the-impact-on-global-supply-chains/

how we might engage AI, new approaches to #SupplyChain with #Blockchain Ledger and in particular to develop "molecular diagnostics, vaccines, neutralizing antibodies" for all people on the planet:

Prof. Greely, Peter, and All

Following up further on the Coronavirus COVID-19 situation, here's a new mapping from the WHO (World Health Organization), which the named CEO of the WUaS Corp / Press (https://twitter.com/IuliuDumitrascu/status/1233448475309826048?s=20) just shared on Twitter. And it's data looks to be very similar to the Johns Hopkins' modeling:

WHO's Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Situation

Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE
https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

Am wary in an ongoing way of "Orientalism" (a kind of racism) in the representations of all this data, and here too - Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins CSSE ... https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 (where its big red circles presently center on Hubei, mainland China, South Korea, Italy, and Iran) - but am also appreciative of all these new amazing opportunities for access to information! (which I also emailed about on 24 Feb 2020 - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/teak-24-feb-2020-world-univ-sch-q-and.html -

Am reminded of the Next Whole Earth Catalog's in depth exploration of the significance of mapping representations and knowledge generation in these regards.

And am very appreciative in an ongoing way of Harvard and MIT Professor of Genetics' George Church's Tweet regarding 'CoronaVirus COVID-19' -
https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1227150486320615424?s=20 -
and regarding -

"It all boils down to two simple numbers: the reproduction number (R0) and the case fatality rate (CFR)" in Ed Baker's article

'Why I’m concerned about the coronavirus: applying viral growth data metrics to a growing crisis' - https://medium.com/@esbaker/why-im-concerned-about-the-coronavirus-applying-viral-growth-data-metrics-to-a-growing-crisis-7b462c9d7265 - in Tweet.
Let's avoid Orientalism as this CoronaVirus Covid-19 situation develops (the NYTs wrote yesterday as front page head line that COVID-19 could be the issue of the decade!).

All the best,

...
