High Sierra snow pack: Here's the beginning of a new :) story: " 2020 was the year I began hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in a digital mask, and actually in the back of the lenses of my glacier glasses... "

Here's the beginning of a new :) story:

2020 was the year I began hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in a digital mask, and actually in the back of the lenses of my glacier glasses. It was on the ridge road, also a fire road, near where I live in Canyon 94516, and all because of the novel corona virus COVID-19 (SARS CoV2) actually. I don't know how many times I walked back and forth on that ~ 2 mile long road, but I must have hiked all of the whirling John Muir Trail in the high Sierra in March that year, and some of the PCT near Tahoe. Amazing - and even though the snow pack was pretty light this year at 10,000 feet. :)

Warm regards, Scott
:)

(I shared this story yesterday with a number of good friends ... many from Reed College, when I hiked much of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2 seasons in 1980 and 1982, I'd think)

Hi Tym and David and Pin,

What are your focuses these days re novel corona virus ? And how are you?

Here's the beginning of a new story:

HI Tym, (and David and Pin),

Very nice to hear from you, and about what you're doing from your role as an ambassador in the US State Department, in a sense, even, in this time of novel corona virus COVID-19 (SARS CoV2) .

Have added Nanette van Nes's (an old friend from Holland, whom I know from Cuttyhunk) and my recent Telegram conversation here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/03/mirabilis-jalapa-greece-world-univ-sch.html - for the benefit of others, and re kids too. And I'm hoping she is well in a 'big city' in Western Europe! ... more thoughts today about this possible 'fire drill worldwide in a time of bio-weapons???' - here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/03/mandrill-current-hypothesis-and-line-of.html ...

How's the tracking going in the Middle East for both the NOVEL corona virus (novel coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) ) ... as well as KNOWN corona viruses going ... and on what I.T. platforms (I'm assuming)? I'm making this hypothetical distinction, but don't THINK the media, or medicine/public health, can or have made this distinction very well at all (giving testing in all ~200 countries in different languages, and different approaches to tracking).

Here are 3 recent articles on tracking Corona virus via A NEW Google website (probably RELATED to its Project Baseline), and for machine learning, etc.  -

"U.S. officials announced a new #coronavirus testing approach that will start with a website created by Google. If a person is symptomatic, they will be referred to “drive thru” clinics, and test results will post to the website."

(I wonder if I might seek to introduce you to Robert Harrington MD, chair of Stanford Medicine, and Rob Califf MD, former FDA commissioner, Duke Professor, and head of Google's Project Baseline at Duke, and Peter Norvig, Director of Google AI - where Stanford and Duke are the 2 universities involved in an initial 10,000 person Project Baseline study, which has probably lead to subsequent Project Baseline studies. Might I, and you as well, Pin (Sid Mazumdar in HHS)? ). And MIT OCW-centric World University and School is seeking to code for all 7.5 billion people on planet each a Wikidata PIN #, in ~200 countries, and in all 7111 known living languages, and for Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records - in these novel corona virus regards potentially too.

The idea in the story :) I shared (below):

is even to be able to hike the PCT in Google Street View with time slider from home in a digital mask on an elliptical machine (or treadmill) for stress reduction and exercise in these challenging novel coronavirus times. (Search on 'treadmill' here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/12/ceres-dwarf-planet-thanks-astroedlu-for.html - and here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/anagallis-arvensis-tour-us-national.html - for example, and indead to walk all over earth in a digital mask in a SINGLE realistic virtual earth in something like Google Street View with TIME SLIDER / MAPS /Earth / Tensorflow / Translate and with avatar bots+)

Hugs, Scott

Tym, David, Pin,

The number of known living languages has recently risen to 7,117 (from 7,111) per The Ethnologue - https://www.ethnologue.com/guides/how-many-languages - and since the last time I checked (as linguists continue to hash out these questions, I'd think!).

From Stanford Law Prof. Hank Greely ...

Interesting but I don't have a clue. I don't have experience with that kind of exercise equipment. Sounds like of like Peloton (sp?) for hikers/walkers. Wonder if something like that exists - it must? The Pacific Coast Trail from the comforts of your home! Maybe w/a sound track!

Hi Sandy and Ma,

Very nice to get your text just now, Sandy, - and in response to my amusing story in text yesterday :) ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/writing ... and thanks for your thinking with regards to the NOVEL coronavirus.

Do you remember, or did you meet, Sandy or Ma, Nanette - in the late 1980s, I think (and a family friend of the Lovells) ...

Am curious about even the 'policing' aspect possibly of the illegal global sex trade in all ~200 countries, and with regards to the NOVEL coronavirus meme as 'replicating cultural unit' (and even regarding the law, in all ~200 countries' languages, and in all 50 US states ... I don't know if people are flocking to Nevada and the Netherlands, with regards to their legalization of seamier aspects of the sex industry ... do you?). See, too, this Tweet from Stanford Law Prof Hank Greely with a focus too on biosciences, and regarding scofflaw language in the SF Bay Area (where issues of the illegal sex trade may be horrific, for example) ...

Have added much of this here to my second blog post today - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/03/high-sierra-snow-pack-heres-beginning.html - and check out the 'law enforcement' label in my blog here too, - esp. recent blog posts (i.e. not Rainbow Gathering older posts:)! Curious to think through further what might be happening during this NOVEL #CoronaVirus pandemic or 'PAN-demic' (where pan could refer to Pan Troglodytes and Pan Paniscus, and regarding humans as primates too! :)

See, too, here Tym Lenderking's email to me, David Thurston and Pin Mazumdar earlier today, - and regarding bringing his kids (2 girls) home from SF and Maine, in this time of NOVEL coronavirus ... (Tym is an ambassador, in a sense, in the US State Department, and focused on the Middle East).

Story which I texted both of you yesterday is at the top of this blog post ... :)

Love, Scott

"Hi Scott, just laying low and avoiding most contact. Doing some work in Freeport house. Probably going to be a tough year for Tourism in Maine and everywhere else. Hopefully the human toll will be minimal. Leadership is abysmal, and will make things worse. It's going to be an interesting few months going forward. Got Ma settled in Longwood, sort of. Think it is good she sold 319 when she did. Strange times. Thanks for the phone Mount. Cheers!" - Sandy

Tym, David and Pin,

And in hiking the PCT, potentially in a digital mask on an elliptical or treadmill machine from home (or on the Canyon 94516 ~2 mile ridge road near me), we'd be able to do this with partners, for example, I in Canyon 94516 with Kai Weber in NorCal, thanks to the coding of the digital masks, and so the process would be social:

Kai (Reedie Kai Weber in (far north) NorCal) -
Now that sounds good! Too bad I'm in school or I'd go with ya

Scott -
We can hike together in digital masks from where we are - on the PCT (or will be able to) Kai!  ... will have to code for this in the back of our glacier glasses :)

Kai -
Lol!!!

Scott -
:)

See, too, my email to my mother and brother, Sandy, just now ... :)

Hugs, Scott

And much in a related vein:

#Furthur: @HankGreelyLSJU @stephaniemlee how could we best hike the #PCT in #GoogleStreetView with #TimeSlider from home in a digital mask on treadmill in 1 #RealisticVirtualEarthForHiking in #NovelCoronavirus times > https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/03/high-sierra-snow-pack-heres-beginning.html https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/03/mandrill-current-hypothesis-and-line-of.html

Tym, Pin, and David,

Further, this is the Hank Greely and Stephanie Lee 'scofflaw' language in the SF Bay Area I was referring to:

Thanks for posting this, @stephaniemlee. I was quite annoyed at CNN's portrayal of a scofflaw Bay Area. Outdoor activities are a legal exception to the order and, probably, on balance, quite good for people's physical & MENTAL health, if pursued safely. I've been walking. A lot.

https://twitter.com/HankGreelyLSJU/status/1240349327844728833?s=20

Am wondering if some of this language and related could be used in the illegal sex trade, in SF law contexts for example, and even re sexual misconduct with children / paraphilia / the illicit sex trade/industry ... etc.

And it sounds like Hank Greely is walking a lot - for health reasons beyond stress (and he's GREAT and a bit overweight too, and communicating amazingly on Twitter from a Stanford Law thinking perspective +++ and he's knowledgeable about biosciences legally, eg genetics).

Am hoping all the genetics research that will come out of this NOVEL coronavirus pandemic, with the recent US federal $8.3 billion dollars in recent funding, will go to aging reversal research as well ... and that we all remain in good health potentially beyond 122 years of age (the upper documented limit that I know of).

Regards, Scott
(both in the 'law enforcement' label in my blog)
