Hi Scott,

Just a quick email to say that it was nice to meet you at the Rumsey Center today. Perhaps we'll have a chance to talk further at the conference over the next couple of days.

Best wishes,

Chet

Hi Chet,

Thanks for your email, and nice to meet you as well, Chet. Yes, perhaps we'll have chance to talk at - https://events.stanford.edu/events/817/81780/ . (I just learned that "Conference Venue is now at capacity. Upon registration, you will be added to the waiting list.") Thanks too for your edifying and very interesting talk today - Talk with Chet Van Duzer: New Research on Urbano Monte's 1587 World Map ... https://events.stanford.edu/events/825/82555/ - with such beautiful map slides.

In the second half of this blog entry - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/wandering-albatross-heres-mention-of.html - and throughout my blog in the "virtual world" label, you'll see where I'm heading with a realistic virtual earth, and re researchers adding their STEM and Humanities' research to such a realistic virtual reality. For example, in what ways could these researchers, or someone else, add the maps in this paper - https://pangea.stanford.edu/ERE/db/GeoConf/papers/SGW/2019/Bjornsson1.pdf (from these papers - https://pangea.stanford.edu/ERE/db/GeoConf/Schedule.php - also in my blog entry) - to a realistic virtual earth, such as Google Streetview / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow and then begin to research further about these? (Am planning this realistic virtual earth as part of CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World University and School) Perhaps we can talk about this as well tomorrow.

For example,
Visit the Harbin gate in Google Street View here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ where you can "walk" down the road '4 miles' to Middletown and 'amble' around the streets there, if inclined. And add some photos or videos if you have them - re a new social science method I'm developing - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - think ethnography as interpretive social science practices, wiki (think fast adding / curating of Wikipedia) and co-building of a virtual world (like in Sansar / Second Life /Open Simulator with avatar bots) but not cartoon-esque, rather realistically.

Hoping to talk with you tomorrow.

Best wishes, Scott

Dear Ewa, Chet (and All),

Thank you so much for your email, and likewise. And thanks again for your excellent talk (and yours Quintana - it would be interesting to 'rif' with animating all your small people drawings and with regard to the following! :)

Ewa, do you mean add 30 (thirty) pre-copyright prints to tackle 3D reconstruction of them to Google Earth by Utagawa Hiroshige made in his 'workshops' in 1834 and then 2 more from 1851 if he made paintings then in a different workshop, and then add them again to Google Earth when they made their ways to new museums in Tokyo (far from Kyoto) hypothetically in the 1950s?

If you visit the Harbin gate in Google Streetview here ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ you can see the Time Slider function for 2007 and 2012, for example. And while I took this photo of the Harbin Hot Springs' gate house in 2001 - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Harbin+Hot+Springs/@38.7860806,-122.6518315,3a,91.6y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOR33JEA3qzAchuAOEFPss-U_w6cXPc-OsiNgSE%3Dw203-h153-k-no!7i576!8i436!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xde57c3ab0ecaa2c9!8m2!3d38.7860806!4d-122.6518315 - I may have added it to Street View at this 'georeferenced' or place link ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ around 2009. The 'provenance' of when I added my photo should be recorded in Google Streetview/Earth too.

Then if you go to this 3D representation of the Harbin gate house, before "walking" down the road 4 "miles" to nearby Middletown CA, - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Harbin+Hot+Springs/@38.7859475,-122.6518096,3a,75y,3.07h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sZvCvdrcS5wPenGS_nB4JtA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xde57c3ab0ecaa2c9!8m2!3d38.7860806!4d-122.6518315 - you can see some of the building blocks, and IT structure, for one approach to 3D.

With regard to machine learning, Google's TensorFlow - https://twitter.com/TensorFlow -  "TensorFlow is a fast, flexible, and scalable open-source machine learning library for research and production" - tensorflow.org - is still fairly young machine learning software (and https://twitter.com/TFBestPractices), but I think will do what you want, or is code-able for this.

The Swede Einar Oberg 'hacked' Google Streetview in making "Brick Street View" (where the 'brick' here refers to physical Lego bricks) - another approach to 3D in Google. And also with regard to 1-1 physical-digital, actual-virtual direct correspondence, potentially helpful for 3D constructions of paintings even. Am interested in Google Street View / Maps / Earth / TensorFlow with TIME SLIDER at the cellular and atomic levels too (and even for adding CRISPR gene editing technologies INTO StreetView eventually). I'm seeking to facilitate developing all of this (and for ART and paintings too) toward a SINGLE realistic virtual earth for everything, since World University and School is seeking to develop ALL museums and ALL libraries from all 7097 living languages in a realistic virtual earth for art - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Museums - and - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Library_Resources

Will take some playing around with. Google search on some of this for further approaches. There may be some further Google Art building blocks here - https://artsandculture.google.com/exhibit/pQIy4C3RNLq9Kg. Will blog about some of this soon as well and re - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/place . Very nice to hear your excellent talks Sumathi, and introductions, Anne (and greetings, Saskia Cousin in Paris). Please give my thanks to David Rumsey as well for this excellent conference.

Looking forward to keeping in touch,

With regard to "Stanford Conf on Mapping Global Imaginary 1500-1900 Feb 14-15 '19" part of question re https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/02/marram-grass-california.html is how best to animate photos into avatar bots for interactivity #RealisticVirtualEarth #RealisticVirtualEarthForArt #RealisticVirtualEarthForHistory?
